There is no universal “block screenshots” switch documented for every Android One phone. The correct method depends on what you control: an app developer can protect a sensitive window with Android’s FLAG_SECURE; an organization’s device or profile owner can enforce a managed screen-capture restriction. A phone owner without either authority cannot reliably disable screenshots and recordings in every app.
Choose the control that matches your situation

Android One is a device program, not a separate screen-capture API. The official material does not establish one setting shared by every Android One handset or release. Treat the phone’s exact model, Android version, work-profile state and management enrollment as important variables.
If you develop the app: use FLAG_SECURE
Android documents FLAG_SECURE as a window flag that prevents screenshots and prevents the window from appearing on non-secure displays such as screen casting. The developer guidance is at Android’s “Secure sensitive activities” documentation.
Basic Kotlin implementation
Set the flag on the activity that displays confidential data:

}Apply it only where necessary, such as account numbers, health records, password-reset tokens or one-time codes. Removing the flag when leaving a sensitive flow can make deliberate sharing possible again, but do so only when the window no longer contains protected information.
What the flag protects
- Android screenshot operations directed at the flagged window.
- Display of that window on non-secure displays, including casting scenarios covered by Android’s documentation.
- Capture behavior for the protected window, rather than every screen on the phone.
Important limits
- Android warns that
FLAG_SECUREis not reliable against overlay attacks. - It may not correctly predict or prevent every screen-recording path. Test the recording and casting flows relevant to your supported versions.
- An external camera pointed at the display is outside the operating system’s control.
- The flag does not give your app authority over another app’s window.
Google Play requires distributed apps to respect another app’s declaration and forbids workarounds that bypass it. See Google Play’s Device and Network Abuse policy.

Detection is not prevention
Android’s screenshot-detection capability can notify an app that a screenshot event occurred; it does not suppress the screenshot. The Android 14 guidance says to use FLAG_SECURE when the requirement is to prevent screenshots or non-secure display. Use detection when you need an audit response (for example, warning a user or recording an event). Use the secure-window flag when the requirement is blocking the app’s sensitive view. Combining both can provide prevention plus an alert for supported screenshot events, but detection should never be described as a block.
Android 17 target-SDK change
For apps targeting API 37 (Android 17) or higher, setContentCaptureEnabled(false) no longer disables Content Capture. Android’s behavior-change documentation directs developers to FLAG_SECURE when they need to restrict screen contents from system capture. This is a target-SDK rule; it does not mean every Android One phone runs Android 17. Consult Android 17 behavior changes and test on the Android versions you support.
If you manage an organization-owned device
A device-management administrator can configure a screen-capture restriction through Android’s device policy framework. The calling administrator must be the device owner or profile owner; an unauthorized caller receives a security exception, as shown in the DevicePolicyManager reference.

- Ask the organization’s mobility or IT administrator whether the phone is enrolled as a fully managed device or has a work profile.
- Identify whether the restriction is intended for the work profile only, selected personal-profile controls on an eligible company-owned device, or a device-wide policy.
- Have the administrator apply the supported screen-capture restriction in the organization’s management console, then test screenshots, recording and casting in both relevant profiles.
Google’s policy examples distinguish personally owned work-profile phones from company-owned phones with work profiles. The screenCaptureDisabled setting shown for personal-usage policies on company-owned devices should not be read as proof that a work-profile policy controls the personal side of every personally owned phone. Do not try to call the policy API from a normal user app. Without device-owner or profile-owner authority, the operation is rejected, and policy availability varies with enrollment mode and Android release.
If you own an unmanaged Android One phone
If capture is blocked only inside one application, that is consistent with app-level protection such as FLAG_SECURE. Contact that app’s support for an approved export or sharing function; do not attempt to bypass its protection.
If screenshots are blocked throughout the phone, look for signs of management such as a work-profile briefcase icon, an organization name in Settings, or a device-management app. Contact the administrator listed there. If no management is present, the available official documentation does not establish a universal Android One setting that disables all screenshots, recordings and external capture paths. Exact Settings labels are model- and version-specific, so avoid instructions that assume a menu exists on every handset.

Test the paths users actually use
- Take a hardware-button or power-menu screenshot while the sensitive activity is visible.
- Use the system screen recorder, if present, and inspect the resulting video.
- Start casting or mirroring to a known non-secure display.
- Navigate away and back to verify the flag is applied on every sensitive activity instance.
- Test rotation, multitasking, notifications, dialogs and deep links that might show sensitive content in another window.
Record the Android version, device build, target SDK and capture method for each result. A successful screenshot block in one path is not evidence that every recording, overlay or camera path is blocked.

Common problems and fixes
“The screenshot still works”
Check that the flag is set on the window actually displaying the data, before the content appears. Fragments and composables inherit the activity window; a separate dialog, activity or WebView may use another window and require its own handling.
“Screen recording shows the content”
Verify the recorder and Android version, then test with the flag applied before rendering. Android explicitly cautions that recording behavior can be imperfect, so redesign the flow to avoid exposing the secret in a recordable transition and test supported devices.
“The policy call throws a security exception”
The caller is not the device owner or profile owner, or the enrollment does not support that policy. Have the authorized administrator apply it through the organization’s management system.

“Only work apps are blocked”
That usually indicates work-profile scope rather than a device-wide rule. Ask the administrator which profile and ownership mode the policy targets; personally owned work-profile phones are not equivalent to company-owned managed devices.

“A privacy screen protector will fix it”
A physical viewing-angle accessory can reduce shoulder-surfing but cannot stop an operating-system screenshot or recording. It is complementary, not a software prevention method.

- Building one app: protect sensitive activities with
FLAG_SECURE, then test screenshots, recording and casting. - Managing a company device: use an authorized device- or profile-owner policy and document its profile scope.
- Using a personal, unmanaged phone: assume there is no universal Android One kill switch; rely on app controls and approved sharing features.

Can I block screenshots in another app on my Android One phone?
No general consumer setting documented here grants one app or user authority over another app’s window. The other app’s developer must protect it, or an authorized administrator must enforce a supported management policy.
Does Android One guarantee identical screenshot behavior?
No. Android One does not establish a separate capture-control API, and behavior can vary with the handset build, Android release, app implementation and management enrollment.
Can I legally bypass an app’s secure-screen protection?
