Angular Gridster2 does not document a built-in PDF exporter. To export every dashboard widget, either capture the rendered dashboard and place the image in a PDF, or generate a report from your dashboard data. Capturing keeps the visible layout; a data-driven report gives you more control over pagination and selectable text. For a tall dashboard, neither approach automatically guarantees that all content fits: choose a scaling or page-splitting strategy and verify the result.
What Gridster2 provides—and what it does not
Gridster2 manages dashboard layout and widget positions; its README demonstrates items with x, y, cols, and rows values. The project documentation does not describe a built-in PDF export command. Treat PDF generation as an application feature, not a Gridster2 setting. See the Gridster2 README and project documentation.
The first decision is whether the PDF should look like the on-screen dashboard or behave like a report. A screenshot-based PDF can preserve the arrangement and styling. A report generated from widget data can produce selectable text and controlled page breaks, but requires a print representation of the widgets.

Option 1: Capture the rendered dashboard
Prepare a stable capture target
Wrap the Gridster component in an element dedicated to export. Give that wrapper the intended width and height, and ensure the grid has finished laying out before capturing it. Gridster takes its available space from its parent, so a wrapper whose dimensions differ from the dashboard view can produce a differently sized result. Wait for asynchronous widget data, charts, images, and fonts to render; for content that loads as the user scrolls, trigger loading before capture.

A community example uses dom-to-image to capture a grid element as a PNG and adds that image to a jsPDF document. It derives the document dimensions from the captured grid. This is an illustrative example, not an official Gridster2 recipe or a verified multi-page exporter: Stack Overflow example and question.
Basic single-image implementation
The following pattern shows the essential flow: capture a chosen element, create a PDF sized to the resulting image, and add the image. Install compatible versions of dom-to-image and jspdf in your application, then adapt the imports to the packages and module setup you use.

}Use the same DOM element in your template as the export target, for example <div id="dashboard-export">...</div>. This produces one PDF page whose dimensions follow the captured image. It does not divide a long dashboard into A4 pages.

Plan for A4 and tall dashboards
A single image placed on a fixed A4 page must be scaled to fit, cropped, or split. Scaling the entire dashboard onto one page can make labels unreadable. Slicing an image across pages can preserve its full height, but a cut may divide a widget or its heading. A better result may come from an export-only layout that rearranges widgets for print.
- Fit on one page: scale the image to the page’s usable area. Use this only when the resulting text remains legible.
- Split into page-height slices: calculate slices from the image and page dimensions, add one slice per PDF page, and check that page boundaries do not obscure important content.
- Use a print layout: reorganize or resize widgets for paper, then capture the print-specific wrapper.
- Generate a data-driven report: render each widget’s data as report content with deliberate headings and page breaks.
The cited community example demonstrates a single captured image, not a tested multi-page method for arbitrarily tall dashboards. Test the exported file in the browsers your application supports and inspect every page for clipping and legibility.
Option 2: Generate a PDF from dashboard data
Instead of serializing the dashboard DOM, use the same application data that feeds the widgets to build a report. This makes it possible to choose page breaks, repeat headings, and keep text as text. The trade-off is that each widget needs a report representation: a chart may need a printable rendering, while a table may need explicit column sizing and row pagination.

Gridster’s layout values can help if the report must reflect dashboard placement. Its documented item examples include position and size fields such as x, y, cols, and rows. If the report is a conventional sequence of sections, those coordinates may be irrelevant; do not let screen layout dictate a print structure that harms readability.

Confirm the export includes all widgets, not only those currently visible in a scrollable region.
- Choose a report order. Use Gridster coordinates only when preserving spatial arrangement is a requirement.
- Render each widget into a PDF-friendly representation, with explicit handling for charts, long tables, and empty states.
- Set page size, margins, and page-break rules for the intended paper format, such as A4.
- Export representative dashboards, including the tallest and densest layouts, and check text selection, clipping, and page breaks.
Check your Angular and Gridster2 versions
Match the Gridster2 major version to the Angular version used by the application, and verify package details before copying API-specific examples. The project release listing reports 21.0.1 for Angular 21.x, with a release date of 2026-01-09; npm lists 22.0.0 for Angular 22.x. These are version-specific package facts, not a guarantee that older examples use the same APIs. Check the npm package listing and the README/declarations for the version actually installed.
Some grid libraries ship their own exporters, but that does not make them compatible with Gridster2. For example, DevExpress documents a PDF exporter for its own grid data that requires jsPDF 2.3.1 or later; this is not evidence of a Gridster2 integration. Troubleshooting export problems
The PDF is blank or widgets are missing
- Confirm the selector points to the wrapper that contains all dashboard items, not just one grid child.
- Wait for asynchronous data and chart rendering before capture. If widgets lazy-load, cause them to render before taking the screenshot.
- Check that the wrapper has non-zero dimensions and that Gridster has completed its layout.
The dashboard is clipped or too small
- Compare the capture target’s dimensions with the intended dashboard dimensions; Gridster uses the space available from its parent.
- For a tall dashboard, do not assume a single-page image will be readable on A4. Choose page slicing, an export layout, or data-driven pagination.
- Inspect the saved PDF page by page at normal viewing size, especially where widgets meet page boundaries.
Images, fonts, or charts differ from the page
- Wait until images and fonts finish loading and charts finish drawing before capture.
- Test cross-origin images and other externally loaded assets in the target browsers; the available example does not establish behavior for every browser or asset configuration.
- Compare the capture with the live dashboard rather than assuming every DOM effect is represented identically in the exported image.
Export works on a small dashboard but fails on a very large one
Large captures can stress browser canvas and memory limits. The available sources do not establish universal limits or a guaranteed workaround. Reduce the captured area, export sections separately, or use a data-driven report, and test with the largest dashboard your application needs to support.
