Short answer: first test whether the Zalando page already contains the fields you need in its initial HTML. Zalando Engineering has described a hybrid system that streams server-rendered markup and then hydrates components in the browser, so some data may be available without automation while interactive or asynchronously loaded fields may require JavaScript rendering. A rotating proxy is a separate networking capability, not a substitute for rendering and never authorization to bypass a block. Check the current terms, robots.txt and your permission for the exact use case, keep traffic low, and stop when access controls indicate you should not continue.
What Zalando’s rendering model means for a scraper
Zalando Engineering’s September 2021 description says its Rendering Engine is a TypeScript backend paired with a client-side JavaScript module. The engine generates markup on the server, streams HTML to the client and hydrates components in the browser. Zalando describes a renderer as “a self-contained Javascript module that runs inside the Rendering Engine framework.” This is useful architectural context, not proof that every current product page needs a headless browser or that today’s selectors remain unchanged. Use the least powerful method that returns the fields you are authorized to collect:
- Direct HTTP: request the page and inspect the response body for product name, price, currency, SKU or structured data.
- Browser rendering: use a real browser only when the required content appears after hydration, interaction or an asynchronous request.
- Proxy routing: route requests through approved egress addresses when your authorized workload needs geographic separation or network isolation. Rotation does not make restricted collection permissible.

Confirm permission and scope
Review the current terms that apply to your target, your contract or written authorization, and the laws of the countries involved. The available material does not establish Zalando’s current consumer-site scraping policy or whether a public catalog API exists. For partner users, Zalando’s Platform Rules (Version 13 effective 1 July 2026) are partner-platform rules, not a complete consumer-site policy.

Read robots.txt correctly
Fetch the current robots.txt for the host you intend to access and honor applicable directives. Google explains the purpose and limits of the convention in its robots.txt introduction: it manages crawler access and traffic; it is not a complete legal permission system and does not prevent a URL from appearing in search results. Do not claim that a directive has been checked until you have retrieved it yourself.
Exclude sensitive targets
Keep a catalog workflow away from account pages, login-walled content, checkout, personal information and any endpoint protected by an access-control challenge. Do not attempt to defeat CAPTCHAs, bot checks or blocks. Prefer an authorized API or data feed for bulk or commercial work if one is offered to you.

Compare any option on rendering fidelity, wait controls, market and locale coverage, request volume, retry behavior, observability, retention and applicable terms. No cited source supplies a reliable success-rate benchmark, so treat vendor performance percentages as claims rather than established results.

1. Discover the exact URL and fields
Start with one public product URL in the market and locale you are authorized to use. Define a small schema such as url, name, price, currency, availability and captured_at. Save an HTML sample and a screenshot during development so selector changes are visible.
2. Test the raw response
Use an ordinary request first. If the response contains the data, parse its structured data or stable elements instead of launching a browser. If it does not, open the page manually, wait for the intended component, and identify a selector that represents the rendered result rather than a transient CSS class.
3. Render only what is necessary
Set a bounded navigation timeout, wait for a specific selector, and use a short additional delay only when observation shows a delayed request. Avoid “network idle” as an unlimited wait: analytics and chat requests can keep a page busy indefinitely. Block unnecessary third-party resources only when doing so does not change the data you need.
4. Keep request rates low
Use a queue, a fixed concurrency limit, exponential backoff for transient failures and a cache keyed by URL plus locale and relevant headers. Respect the site’s published limits and stop on repeated denials. A rotating proxy pool should not be used to multiply traffic or evade a block.

Check that currency matches the requested market, prices are numeric, availability is present or explicitly null, and the URL is the page you requested. Store response status, render duration, browser version, proxy region and an error category, but avoid retaining unnecessary page content or personal data.

The following is a minimal, rate-limited pattern for an authorized public product page. Replace the URL and selector after inspecting the current page; selectors are not guaranteed to remain stable.

Proxy rotation: what it can and cannot do
Legitimate uses
A proxy can provide a controlled egress region, isolate workloads or satisfy an approved network architecture. Keep a mapping of request, proxy, locale and timestamp so an operator can investigate errors. Use a small, stable pool and rotate on a schedule appropriate to your volume rather than on every request by default.

Unsafe assumptions
Changing IP addresses does not grant access, erase a terms violation or guarantee that a page will render. Do not rotate to evade throttling, CAPTCHAs, authentication or an explicit denial. If a provider advertises residential rotation, treat that as a vendor capability claim; it is not independent evidence that Zalando will permit or serve the request.
Vendor-suggested hosted workflow
A Crawlbase tutorial proposes its JavaScript token, waiting for asynchronous content and rotating residential IPs for a Zalando example. That page is promotional and does not independently validate current Zalando behavior or provide a reproduced success rate. Treat it as one possible implementation to evaluate, not a guarantee. Ask the provider about data retention, regions, rate limits, retries, browser versions and terms before sending URLs.
Reliability, performance and cost controls
- Cache safely: cache only where your authorization permits it, with a TTL that matches how often the catalog changes. Include locale and relevant request headers in the cache key.
- Bound work: cap navigation and selector waits, browser concurrency and total retries. A failed load should become a recorded failure, not an endless loop.
- Observe outcomes: distinguish HTTP errors, empty markup, selector timeouts, navigation timeouts, consent overlays and access denials. Capture a diagnostic screenshot only when permitted.
- Control spend: browser minutes, proxy traffic and hosted-rendering requests can all increase cost. Measure per-URL duration and retry rate before scaling.
- Protect data: redact cookies, authorization headers and any personal information from logs. Set retention and deletion rules.
Troubleshooting
The HTML has no product data
Confirm you requested the intended locale and URL, then inspect the rendered DOM and network activity in an authorized browser session. If the data appears only after hydration, add a selector wait for the component that displays it. Do not assume every missing field requires a proxy.
The selector times out
The page may have changed, the product may be unavailable, consent may be blocking the view, or the request may have been denied. Save the status and a permitted diagnostic artifact, verify the selector manually, and lower concurrency before retrying.
You receive a CAPTCHA or bot check
Stop. Do not solve, automate or evade it with proxy rotation. Contact the site or use an authorized access route.
Prices or currency are inconsistent
Check market, locale, currency and cookie state. Treat a missing or conflicting value as invalid, not as a value to infer. Keep the original text alongside a normalized field for auditability.
Pages are blank or intermittently fail
Record response status, timeout phase and proxy region. Retry a small number of times with backoff; if failures continue across regions, pause the job and investigate permission, availability or provider health.
Robots.txt appears to allow a path
That is only a crawler directive. Recheck the applicable terms and authorization; robots.txt does not itself grant permission.
