Windows 10 has no standard Settings switch for hiding individual entries on the Ctrl+Alt+Del screen. On Pro, Enterprise, and Education, use Local Group Policy; on Home, you can set the corresponding per-user Registry values. The Power button uses a separate, all-or-nothing policy that also affects Start and the sign-in screen.
Which options can you remove?
| Screen item | Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Task Manager | Remove Task Manager | Individual Ctrl+Alt+Del policy; can also block normal attempts to start Task Manager. |
| Lock | Remove Lock Computer | Removes the Lock entry from the Windows Security screen. |
| Change a password | Remove Change Password | Removes that entry; it does not stop Windows from requiring a password change in certain circumstances. |
| Sign out / Log off | Remove Logoff | Hides the entry on this screen; other sign-out paths may remain. |
| Shut down, Restart, Sleep, Hibernate | Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands | One combined policy removes the Power button and associated commands from several interfaces. |
| Switch user | No matching standard policy identified for this screen | Do not assume the policies above remove it. |
| Cancel or the Ctrl+Alt+Del screen itself | No standard policy in this set | These policies customize entries, not the entire screen. |
The individual Ctrl+Alt+Del policies and their Registry mappings are documented in Microsoft’s ADMX-backed Ctrl+Alt+Del policy reference.
Before changing a policy
- Windows edition: Local Group Policy Editor is available in Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Education. Windows 10 Home does not include it by default; see the Registry method below. Microsoft’s system-tools documentation confirms the Home limitation.
- Scope: These Ctrl+Alt+Del settings are under User Configuration. A Registry equivalent under
HKEY_CURRENT_USERapplies to the account whose hive you edit, not automatically to every account on the PC. - Managed PCs: A workplace or school’s domain policy, mobile-device management, or security baseline may override local changes. Ask the administrator before changing a managed device.
- Registry safety: If editing the Registry, export the relevant key or create a restore point first. Change only the named values; do not delete an entire
Policieskey, which may contain unrelated settings.
Remove individual options with Local Group Policy
These steps apply to Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Education. The four individual entries share one policy folder.
- Press Windows + R, enter
gpedit.msc, and press Enter. - In Local Group Policy Editor, go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Ctrl+Alt+Del Options.
- Open the policy matching the entry you want to hide, select Enabled, then choose Apply and OK.
- Sign out and back in to refresh the interactive session. A restart also works.
Remove Task Manager
Enable Remove Task Manager. The Task Manager entry disappears, and policy can block attempts to start Task Manager through normal entry points. This can make it harder to troubleshoot a frozen app.

Remove Lock
Enable Remove Lock Computer to remove the Lock button from this screen. This policy concerns that entry point; do not assume it disables every locking method. Check whether Windows + L still works in your configuration before relying on it.
Remove Change a password
Enable Remove Change Password. This hides the option on the Windows Security screen, but does not prevent Windows from prompting for a password change when an expired password or another administrative condition requires it.

Remove the Power button and power commands
In Local Group Policy Editor, go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar. Open Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands, select Enabled, and apply the change.

This combined policy removes the Power button from the Ctrl+Alt+Del screen and removes the named power commands from Start and the sign-in screen as well. It is not a way to hide only Sleep or only Shut down. Microsoft documents the policy and its wider effects in its Start policy settings reference. It also notes that Windows-based programs can still invoke power functions, so this is not a guarantee that every shutdown route is blocked.
Windows 10 Home: use the per-user Registry values
Registry editing is an advanced alternative when Local Group Policy Editor is unavailable. The following values mirror Microsoft’s documented policy mappings. They affect the currently signed-in user.

The Registry locations and value names are listed in Microsoft’s policy mapping. There is no equivalent in this mapping that reliably removes just one power command. A commonly cited NoClose value has less definitive guidance and may disable more power functionality than intended; use Group Policy for the Power menu where available rather than treating it as a precise Home-edition substitute.
Restore the options
Group Policy
Open the same policy and set it to Not Configured or Disabled, then apply the change and sign out and back in. On a managed PC, an administrator’s policy may set it again.

Registry
Delete only the value you added, or change its data to 0. For example, to restore Task Manager, remove DisableTaskMgr from the System key. Do not delete the entire System, Explorer, or Policies key. Sign out and back in after editing.
Troubleshoot a setting that does not take effect
- Refresh policy: On a Group Policy edition, open Command Prompt and run
gpupdate /force, then sign out and back in. - Check the target account: User Configuration and
HKEY_CURRENT_USERapply to a user. Confirm you edited the account that is displaying the screen. - Check for an override: Run
gpresult /h "%USERPROFILE%Desktopgpresult.html"and inspect the report for applied or winning policies. Domain policy, MDM, scripts, or management software can rewrite a local setting; contact IT on a managed device. - Confirm your edition: If
gpedit.msccannot be opened on Windows 10 Home, that is expected; use the Registry method or an edition that includes Local Group Policy Editor. Avoid unofficial scripts that claim to install or enable it. - Expect broader Power changes: If Start or the sign-in screen also loses power commands, that is the documented effect of the combined Power policy.
Do not confuse this with the sign-in Ctrl+Alt+Del requirement
Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL controls whether Windows requires the key combination before showing the sign-in interface. It does not remove options from the screen shown after a user presses Ctrl+Alt+Del in a signed-in session. Microsoft documents this separately as a security policy and explains that requiring the sequence helps protect the trusted sign-in process: Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL.
