WS-43709-3 is a PlayStation Store payment-validation error. Sony says to check whether the registered credit card has expired, verify its details, and re-register it if needed. If you have already repeatedly added or deleted the card, stop and wait 24 hours before trying again; Sony warns that payment operations may be temporarily unavailable after repeated changes.
What WS-43709-3 means
Sony’s message for WS-43709-3 is: “Please check the expiration date of your credit card.” The code points to a payment method on the PlayStation account, not to a faulty console. An expired card is one possibility, but the stored card information may also need correction, or payment operations may be temporarily unavailable after repeated changes. The error can occur when buying a game, add-on, or in-game content.
Sony’s error-code directory lists WS-43709-3 under PS4 errors. If you see it on PS5, the code is not officially listed there as a PS5-specific error; checking the account’s payment details is still a sensible first step.
Check or update the card on PS4
- Go to Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Wallet → Payment Methods.
- Select the registered card and check its expiration month and year.
- Confirm the card number and the other registration information shown.
- If the card expired or was replaced, remove it and register the current card with its up-to-date details.
- Try the purchase once after saving the information.
Menu wording can vary with system language, account region, and software version. Sony’s documented path is for PS4; this article does not assume a corresponding PS5 console menu path. The account’s payment methods can also be managed through the official PlayStation account or Store options available in your region.

These steps follow Sony’s WS-43709-3 support instructions.
If the card has not expired
Verify all stored payment information
Check the full card number and expiration date. Also compare the cardholder name and billing address or postal code with the information requested by the payment form. These are practical details to verify; Sony’s page specifically calls out the expiration date and card number.

If your bank recently replaced the card, register the replacement card rather than relying on the old saved details. A valid card elsewhere does not confirm that the details saved to your PlayStation account are current.
Remove and register the card again
Sony recommends deleting the registered card and adding it again. Open Payment Methods, select the affected card, remove it, then register it with the exact current details. Make one careful attempt rather than repeatedly cycling through removal and registration.

Test another card
If available, try a different valid credit card. Sony recommends this as an option, not as a guaranteed fix. If a second card works, the issue may be specific to the original card or its saved details; if it also fails, move to another payment option or seek support.
Stop and wait if you have made repeated changes
If you have repeatedly added or deleted payment information, stop editing the card and stop retrying the purchase. Sony says payment operations may become temporarily unavailable after multiple registration or deletion attempts in a short period, and advises waiting 24 hours before trying to add payment information again. The wait is not a guarantee, but continuing to retry during that period is not the recommended next step.

Use another payment method if available
Sony’s guidance is to try another payment method if the card continues to fail. The options shown depend on your country or region, account, and currency. Depending on local availability, you may be able to use another card or add PlayStation wallet funds with an official Store wallet top-up or gift card. Check the PlayStation Store and the support information for your region for current availability and redemption rules. An alternative payment method may not bypass an account-level payment restriction.
Do not change your account’s country or region simply to get around the error. Store access, currency, payment methods, and purchased content are tied to regional rules.

Check service status and avoid unrelated fixes
If another payment method fails too, check the live PlayStation service-status page for a broader service issue. A single payment error does not establish that the Store is down.
Because Sony’s documented remedy is to check and update payment information, begin there rather than rebuilding the console database, factory-resetting the system, reinstalling a game, or changing network settings. Those steps do not address the payment details identified in Sony’s instructions.
If a charge appears but the purchase is missing
Do not immediately submit the payment again. Check the PlayStation account’s transaction history and whether the purchased content is available. Then check your bank activity to distinguish a completed charge from a pending authorization; a pending authorization can sometimes disappear without becoming a completed charge. If a charge remains but the item was not delivered, contact PlayStation Support with the transaction details.
When to contact PlayStation Support
Contact PlayStation Support if the card and saved details are correct but re-registering does not help, another payment option also fails, or the error remains after the 24-hour wait. Contact support as well for a possible account, billing, or security restriction, a missing purchase, or a charge you cannot reconcile. Use the support site for your country or region and choose the category that matches the issue.
