Match the grid to the exact sheet dimensions, print at 100% or Actual Size on A4, and test the alignment on plain paper before using adhesive stock.
What Symfony does—and what it does not do
Symfony’s Form component can render a field’s label and HTML attributes. It does not know the dimensions or arrangement of the sticker sheet in your printer. Those belong in a print-specific Twig view and its CSS, or in a PDF-generation workflow that preserves the page size.
For a form field, set its label and label_attr options when building the form. In Twig, form_label renders a field label; you can pass a label and attributes when rendering it. If each sticker is simply a record such as a name and address, you may render those values directly instead of using Symfony form labels. In either case, the physical positioning comes from the page layout, not the form helper.
Measure the A4 sheet before writing the layout
A4 paper measures 210 × 297 mm. That is the page size, not the printable area: a particular printer may be unable to print close to one or more edges. Read the packaging or template information for the exact label stock and note the label width and height, number of columns and rows, top and side margins, and horizontal and vertical gaps. Confirm whether the sheet is portrait or landscape.

For a concrete example, the documented HEMA 38310012 arrangement is 21 labels in 3 columns and 7 rows, with each label measuring 63.5 × 38.1 mm, on an A4 portrait sheet. Do not assume another product with the same number of labels has the same geometry. A template cross-reference guide, such as LabelPlanet’s A4 guide, can help identify a compatible template code; verify it against the stock you actually have.
Check that the measurements fit
Before printing, add up the occupied width: left margin + all label widths + all column gaps + right margin. It must fit within 210 mm for portrait A4. Do the same vertically against 297 mm, including top and bottom margins and row gaps. Use the sheet’s actual measurements, not the example dimensions, if you have different stock.
Create a print-only Twig view
Keeping the print layout separate from the regular form or screen view makes it easier to tune print-specific dimensions without changing the application’s normal interface. The following example uses the HEMA geometry above as a starting point. Replace the margins and gaps with the values for your own sheet; the example is not a universal A4 template.

</html>Twig escapes output by default in a normal HTML template, which is useful for names and addresses supplied as data. Keep the record properties aligned with your own entity or view model; name and address above are illustrative field names, not Symfony requirements.

}The grid dimensions in this example reproduce the cited HEMA label size and column arrangement, but the page margins and gap must also match the physical sheet. The CSS sets a layout; it cannot force the browser or printer driver to preserve physical size if the print dialog scales the page.
Render Symfony form labels where they are needed
If a sticker needs the label of a Symfony form field, render that field with Symfony’s Twig helper and pass attributes for styling:

Alternatively, set the field’s label and label_attr in the form type options. The helper produces HTML content; place it inside your label cell and size that cell to the sheet.
Print at the sheet’s actual size
- Open the print view or generate a PDF whose page size is A4. For a browser print, open the browser’s print dialog; for a PDF workflow, confirm the PDF page itself is A4 rather than relying on a later viewer setting.
- Select A4 paper and the correct orientation—portrait for the example sheet. Match the driver’s tray and stock settings to the printer manufacturer’s guidance.
- Set scale to 100% or Actual Size. Do not choose “Fit,” “Shrink oversized pages,” or another option that scales the page to the printable area.
- Disable browser headers and footers. Choose minimum or no margins only if the printer supports the required printable area; otherwise account for the printer’s unprintable edges in the CSS and sheet layout.
- Print one test page on ordinary paper. Place it over the label sheet against a light source and check the borders before loading adhesive stock.
Scale is a frequent source of alignment trouble: if the whole page is reduced or enlarged, every label shifts relative to its sticker even when the CSS grid is internally consistent. A4 paper selection and 100% scaling are separate settings, so verify both.

Make a plain-paper alignment test useful
Use the test sheet to separate scale errors from offset errors. First check that a printed label box has the intended physical width and height. If it is uniformly too small or too large, revisit the print scale and page-size settings rather than moving the grid. If the box size is right but every label is displaced in the same direction, compare the sheet margins with the printer’s printable area. If the first row aligns but later rows drift, recheck label height and row gap.
- Measure the first label’s width and height with a ruler; do not judge size only from the screen preview.
- Check the outermost labels as well as the center. A layout may fit the middle but run beyond the sheet at an edge.
- Change one layout value at a time and print another plain-paper test, so you know which adjustment changed the result.
- Only load adhesive sheets after the test lines up with the stock. Feed label material in the direction recommended by the printer maker.
Browser printing or PDF?
Browser printing is convenient during development, but it involves both CSS print rules and browser/driver settings. A PDF workflow can make the A4 page size explicit in the file before the reader opens it. In either workflow, page dimensions alone do not guarantee correct output: the final viewer and printer must still print at actual size rather than fit the page.
Label stock is not interchangeable across printer technologies. Check that the sheets are rated for your printer—some cited stock, for example, is specified for laser printers—and follow the printer’s instructions for feeding label media. Output also depends on the printer and label quality, so test the actual combination before a large run.
Troubleshooting shifted or incorrectly sized labels
All labels are uniformly too small or too large
Cause: the browser, PDF viewer, or driver scaled the page. Fix: select A4 and set scaling to 100% or Actual Size; turn off fit-to-page options. Reprint on plain paper and measure a label cell.

Every label is offset by roughly the same amount
Cause: the CSS margins do not match the stock, or the printer cannot print as close to an edge as the layout assumes. Fix: verify the sheet’s top and side margins, then account for the printer’s printable area. Do not compensate by changing label width if the measured label size is already correct.
Alignment gets progressively worse down the page
Cause: row height or vertical spacing differs from the sheet, or scaling is not truly at 100%. Fix: check the physical label height, row gap, and page scale. Compare the first and last rows on a test sheet to identify cumulative drift.
The grid fits on screen but not on paper
Cause: the screen preview is not a physical measurement, or the print page size and CSS page size differ. Fix: confirm that both the print dialog and any generated PDF use A4, then test at Actual Size. The print dialog controls physical output even when the browser preview looks correct.
Text is cut off inside a sticker
Cause: the content exceeds the cell’s available area or the stock’s usable label dimensions. Fix: shorten or reflow the content, adjust internal padding and typography, and retain the measured sticker dimensions. With overflow: hidden, content beyond the cell is clipped rather than expanding neighboring cells.

Output smears, jams, or damages the sheet
Cause: the label stock may not be suitable for the printer technology or may have been loaded contrary to its feed instructions. Fix: check the stock packaging and printer guidance, and test only with sheets rated for that printer. Do not assume that all A4 adhesive sheets are safe for every device.

Checklist before printing a label run
- Confirm the exact sheet template and its label dimensions, margins, rows, columns, and gaps.
- Make the CSS page layout match the stock; do not reuse another sheet’s geometry because it is also A4.
- Use an A4 page in portrait or landscape as required, including in the generated PDF if you use one.
- Print at 100% or Actual Size, with headers and footers disabled.
- Run a plain-paper test and overlay it on the stock before using adhesive sheets.
- Check that the stock is compatible with your printer and feed it as directed.
