The quickest way to create a landscape PDF is to use your desktop browser’s print dialog: open the page, choose Print, select a PDF destination, change Orientation or Layout to Landscape, check the preview, and save. Landscape gives wide tables, charts, and dashboards more horizontal room, but scale, paper size, margins, and page styling determine whether the result is readable.
Save a web page as a landscape PDF
- Open the page on a desktop browser. Wait for the content you need, including images, tables, or charts, to finish loading.
- Open Print. In Chrome desktop, use File > Print, Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on macOS. Firefox and Edge also provide a Print command in their menus.
- Choose a PDF destination. Select Save to PDF, Save as PDF, or the equivalent PDF destination instead of a physical printer.
- Set orientation. Open Layout or Orientation and choose Landscape.
- Correct the fit. In the preview, adjust paper size, scale, or margins if columns are clipped or text is unreadably small. Edge offers fit-to-printable-area, actual-size, and custom percentage controls; Firefox exposes paper size, scale, and margins.
- Save and verify. Save the file, reopen it in a PDF viewer, and check that pages are horizontal and that every required column, image, and heading is present.
A printer is not required: the PDF destination creates a digital file. Browser labels and the exact location of settings vary by operating system and release, so use the preview rather than assuming that every page will paginate identically.
Why landscape can still cut off content
Changing orientation increases the page’s width, but it does not guarantee that a site’s layout will fit. A page can define its own print stylesheet, fixed-width tables, wide code blocks, or elements positioned outside the printable area. Mozilla Support warns that web pages can appear different on paper than on screen; this is why previewing is essential.

- Scale: Lowering the percentage can bring a wide table onto the page, at the cost of smaller type. Start with the browser’s fit option, then use a custom percentage only if necessary.
- Paper size: A larger paper size provides more usable width, while a smaller size can create extra page breaks. Choose the paper size that matches the PDF’s intended audience.
- Margins: Narrower margins increase content width but may make the document harder to print later. Check the preview after every margin change.
- Page breaks: A very wide or tall table may still split across pages. If the browser offers no useful control, simplify the page or export the data separately.
- Headers and footers: Browser-added URLs, dates, and page numbers consume space. Disable them when they obscure content, or leave them enabled when document provenance matters.
- Backgrounds: Background colors and images may be disabled by default. Firefox lists a print-backgrounds control; enable it only when the visual styling is necessary.
Firefox: landscape PDF settings
- Open the page and choose Print.
- Set the destination to Save to PDF.
- Set Orientation to Landscape.
- Expand More settings to adjust paper size, scale, pages per sheet, margins, headers and footers, and background printing.
- If available, try Format > Simplified for an article-heavy page, then inspect the preview. Simplified format removes much of the surrounding interface; Firefox notes that it disables background printing.
- Save the PDF and reopen it to inspect every page.
Use the original format when you need the site’s tables, diagrams, colors, or interactive-looking layout. Simplified output is useful when navigation, advertising, or other surrounding material is making the document noisy.

Microsoft Edge: fit wide pages before saving
- Open the web page and select Print.
- Choose the PDF destination offered by your system.
- Under Layout, select Landscape.
- Open the additional settings and choose the required paper size.
- Use Fit to printable area for a first attempt. If the result is too small or too large, try Actual size or enter a custom scale.
- Use Edge’s clutter-free print option when you want to remove surrounding material such as advertisements and site navigation.
- Review margins and the complete preview, then save.
Edge’s fit choices solve different problems: fit-to-printable-area prioritizes inclusion, actual-size preserves the page’s scale, and a custom percentage lets you balance readability against width.
Google Chrome desktop: print preview and PDF destination
- Open the page.
- Select File > Print, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or press Command+P on Mac.
- Choose the available PDF destination, then set the print settings shown by your operating system and Chrome version.
- Choose landscape orientation if the dialog exposes it, adjust scale, paper, margins, and other settings, and inspect the preview.
- Save or print the PDF destination, then reopen the file.
Chrome’s documented workflow is consistent—open Print, select a destination, choose settings, and print—but setting names and available controls can differ between platforms. Do not rely on a preview thumbnail alone if the page contains a wide table; open the saved PDF and check the actual pages.
Choosing settings for tables, charts, and dashboards

Landscape is a layout choice, not a quality setting. For ordinary prose, portrait can produce more comfortable line lengths. Use landscape when width—not height—is the limiting factor.

When simplified or clutter-free printing helps
Firefox’s Simplified format and Edge’s clutter-free printing can remove navigation, advertisements, and other surrounding elements. They may also remove intentional design, sidebars, background colors, or interactive context. Compare the original and simplified previews before saving. If a chart, table, or warning disappears, return to the original format and solve the width problem with scale or margins instead.
Troubleshooting landscape PDF problems
The PDF is still portrait
Orientation may have been changed in a system dialog after the browser preview, or the setting may have applied to a different printer profile. Reopen Print, verify the PDF destination, set Landscape again, and confirm the preview page is horizontal before saving.
Right-hand columns are missing
Reduce scale or choose fit-to-printable-area. Check paper size and margins. If the table has a fixed width or horizontal scrolling, try the page’s own print or export view; a browser cannot always override a site’s print CSS.

Text is too small
Increase scale and use a larger paper size or narrower margins. If the content still cannot fit, split the table into logical sections or export the underlying data rather than shrinking the entire page.
The preview contains advertisements, chat, or navigation
Use Firefox Simplified format or Edge clutter-free printing when available. Otherwise, hide the elements with a site-provided reading view or print stylesheet. Always check that required content remains.
Colors or images are missing
Enable background printing where the browser provides that control, and use the original format instead of Simplified. Images that load only after scrolling may not appear until the page has finished loading; refresh, wait, and preview again.

Page breaks split a table awkwardly
Try a different paper size, scale, or margin. Some pages define their own break rules, so the browser may not be able to keep a row together. Look for a print-friendly or export-to-PDF option on the site.
The saved file looks different from the preview
Open the actual file in a PDF viewer. If it differs, repeat the export with the same destination and settings, and avoid changing the printer or system profile between preview and save.
