Microsoft Rewards does not credit every search. The usual explanations are a full daily counter, a different Microsoft account, delayed dashboard synchronization, an unsupported search route or region, Give Mode, or a temporary earning limitation triggered by search patterns that look automated. Check the live Rewards dashboard first, then test a few normal Bing searches without VPNs, proxies, bots, macros, or rapid-fire activity.
Start with the five-minute diagnostic
- Open the Microsoft Rewards dashboard.
- Verify the account identity, current balance, search-progress or points-breakdown panel, Give Mode setting, and any earning-limit notice.
- Open Bing.com, confirm the same Microsoft account is signed in, and enter one genuine query manually.
- Refresh the dashboard. Do not run repeated searches while testing.
- If the counter is full, stop searching and wait for its reset. If it is not full and normal searches still do not appear, continue with the checks below.
Microsoft says limits and eligible earning methods vary by country, region, account level, and current program configuration. The dashboard for your account is more authoritative than an old guide or a fixed number published elsewhere (Microsoft earning guidance).
What “not counting” actually means
Identify the symptom before changing settings:
- Search results appear, but progress does not move: the query may be outside a qualifying route, the account may be wrong, the counter may be full, or an earning limitation may be active.
- The search counter moves but the total balance does not: the dashboard and balance display may be temporarily out of sync. Refresh the dashboard rather than immediately searching more.
- The dashboard says the limit is reached: this is expected cap behavior, not a browser defect.
- Only a daily quest fails: quest activation and ordinary search credit are separate. Search points can work while a particular quest remains inactive.
- A warning says recent searches do not qualify: Microsoft has applied an earning limitation; additional searches will not force credit.
Use the dashboard’s search-progress or points-breakdown area, not only a toolbar total, Bing homepage badge, or mobile-app balance.

Check the current daily limit
Microsoft applies daily search limits, but it does not provide one permanent worldwide number. The applicable cap can vary by market, level, categories shown to your account, and program changes. PC, mobile, and Edge activity may be combined or displayed differently; searching on several devices does not guarantee separate allowances (Rewards overview).

When the relevant counter is full, further searches will not earn points until it resets. Do not clear cookies, switch accounts, or keep searching to unlock it. If your interface no longer shows a category that an older article mentions, treat that as a current account or regional presentation rather than proof that points are missing.
Confirm that Bing and Rewards use the same account
- Open Rewards and note the signed-in email or profile identity.
- Open Bing in the browser or app and inspect its account menu.
- Sign out of unnecessary Microsoft accounts if account switching is causing confusion.
- Sign in to the intended personal Rewards account in both places.
- Perform one ordinary search and refresh Rewards.
Microsoft lists a different signed-in account and browser data that fails to synchronize with the Rewards database among common causes of missing search credit (Microsoft Rewards help). If you use a work or school identity, verify that permitted account linking is configured; that account does not automatically create a separate personal Rewards balance (work-search account linking).
Use a qualifying search entry point
For a clean test, open Bing.com itself and type a real query into Bing’s search box while signed in. Microsoft lists Bing, supported Windows search boxes, Bing mobile experiences, the Bing app, Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Launcher on Android where available, but availability differs by region (earning methods).
A browser address-bar search can use another default search engine or a different account session. Microsoft recommends setting Bing as the default search engine in the browser used for earning (getting the most from Rewards). Do not assume that every account has separate PC, mobile, and Edge counters.
Stop activity that can trigger an earning limitation
Microsoft may temporarily limit searches when activity does not look like good-faith research. Warned patterns include rapid back-to-back searches, random letters or numbers, quickly opening bookmarked pages or articles for points, and using bots, macros, emulators, browser scripts, or other automation (search-limiting guidance).
- Stop rapid or repetitive testing.
- Resume only normal, manually entered searches at a natural pace.
- Do not create another account to bypass a restriction; multiple accounts can create additional policy problems.
- Microsoft says a limitation is not necessarily permanent, but repeated violations can lead to suspension or invalidation of points. No universal release time is published.
Remove VPN, proxy, and location variables
Disconnect VPNs, proxies, IP-location tools, and mobile emulators. Restore the device’s normal location and time-zone settings, and avoid switching countries or markets during the same earning day. Microsoft’s policy guidance prohibits attempts to earn from another market and warns against earning points from more than one country on the same day (Rewards policy guidance).

Travel can change which catalog and earning opportunities are available. Use the market in which you are actually located and consult Microsoft’s region information rather than trying to imitate another region (Rewards regions). Redemption rules are related but not identical to earning rules (redemption guidance).
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCheck Give Mode and the visible balance
Give Mode can make the displayed balance or presentation differ from ordinary personal earning. Inspect the Rewards dashboard for Give Mode and decide whether you want the normal personal-balance display. Changing it is a display and account-setting check, not a guaranteed cure for missing search credit (Microsoft Rewards help).
Repair a stale browser or app session
Browser troubleshooting is useful when Bing or the dashboard visibly fails, but it cannot fix a full counter, regional restriction, or policy limitation.
- Sign out of unnecessary Microsoft accounts and sign back in to the intended one.
- Update the browser or Bing app.
- Temporarily disable extensions that block scripts, cookies, redirects, or sign-in behavior.
- Clear Microsoft and Bing site data if the session appears stale, then sign in again.
- Try another supported browser or official entry point.
- Use a private window only as a controlled diagnostic. It may isolate bad cookies, but it can also open a session that is not signed in.
- Test one or two ordinary searches, then refresh Rewards.
Do not assume that every ad blocker invalidates points; extensions are a troubleshooting variable, not a confirmed universal Microsoft rule.
Mobile, Windows, and changing interfaces
Microsoft says Bing mobile searches can earn points where that method is offered, but not all earning methods are available in every region. Check the categories currently shown on your dashboard before expecting a mobile, PC, or Edge counter. Community reports from July 2026 describe changed mobile displays, but they are anecdotal and do not establish a universal Microsoft policy (community report).

For testing, compare Bing.com, the Bing app, Edge, and the Windows search box on a supported device. If one works and another does not, compare account identity, app version, extensions, and session state instead of assuming that the device has a separate allowance.

When only a daily quest fails
First determine whether ordinary search points are missing or only the quest progress. Check that the quest is visible and active for your account and region, that the search cap has not been reached, and that progress is not appearing under another category. A June 17, 2026 Microsoft Q&A report describes a search quest that failed to activate even after searches; suggested diagnostics included checking VPN status, trying the Bing app or another browser, and using private browsing before contacting support (Microsoft Q&A example). Do not infer from a quest failure that every search is uncredited.

When to contact Microsoft Rewards Support
Escalate after confirming the correct account, using manual Bing searches, checking that the counter is not full, removing VPN/proxy and automation variables, and trying the browser or app steps above. Contact support promptly if a clear earning-limit notice appears, the dashboard and Bing identify different accounts, or normal searches still fail after the expected reset. Start from Microsoft Support and use the Rewards support form linked from its help pages.
Include:
- Your Microsoft account email or identifier in the private support form, never in a public post.
- Country or region; device and operating system; browser or app name and version.
- Approximate date and time of failed searches.
- A screenshot of the counter or warning.
- Whether VPNs, proxies, extensions, automation, emulators, or multiple accounts were involved.
- Whether other daily activities still earn points.
Once you have captured this evidence, avoid repeated searches or attempts to bypass the restriction while waiting for a response.

Why do some Bing searches count and others not?
Only qualifying, good-faith searches through an eligible route count, and the account may already have reached its current cap.
Do searches from multiple devices share one limit?
They may count toward the same account allowance; devices do not guarantee separate unlimited counters.
Does Microsoft Edge have to be used?
No. Bing.com and other supported routes can qualify, but availability depends on region and account.

Do searches in private mode count?
Private browsing is only a diagnostic test. It may help isolate session problems, but it can also leave you signed out.
Can a VPN stop Rewards search points?
Yes. A VPN or proxy can create a market mismatch and may violate Microsoft’s earning policy.
How long does a search limitation last?
Microsoft says limitations are not necessarily permanent but does not publish one universal duration.
Can I recover missed points?
There is no guaranteed automatic back-credit. Ask Rewards Support with details of otherwise normal activity.
Why does my dashboard show a different balance?
Check synchronization, the signed-in account, and Give Mode before assuming points were lost.
Why are mobile points missing?
Mobile earning methods and categories vary by region and account; use the live dashboard as the authority.
Will clearing cookies delete my Rewards points?
Clearing site data signs you out or removes local session information; it does not itself erase the points recorded on your account.
