Firefox does not have a current feature called “Loop.” In today’s desktop Firefox, capture a page by right-clicking an empty area and choosing Take Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS. You can select a region, an element, the visible viewport, or the entire page, then copy or download the result.
“Loop” was the historical codename for Firefox Hello, a communications and content-sharing project that MozillaWiki says began shutting down from Firefox 49. It is not a present-day screenshot utility. This guide treats your question as capturing screenshots in current Firefox, including repeated command-line captures.
Use Firefox’s built-in screenshot tool
Firefox’s desktop screenshot feature requires no add-on. Open the page you want to capture, then use any of these entry points:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux.
- Press Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Add a toolbar button through More Tools > Customize Toolbar, then place the Screenshot button where you want it.
The wording and menu placement described here come from Mozilla Support’s “Take screenshots in Firefox” article, last updated June 15, 2026. A page can block its own context menu, so the keyboard shortcut or toolbar button is useful when right-clicking does not show the command.

Choose what to capture
When the screenshot interface opens, Firefox offers four different targets:
- Region: drag a rectangle around any part of the page.
- Element: move the pointer over the page. Firefox highlights the element under it so you can capture a heading, image, card, table, or other DOM element without manually measuring its edges.
- Full page: captures the complete scrollable page, including content below the current viewport.
- Visible area: captures only what is currently visible in the browser window.
Use full-page mode for long documentation, receipts, or articles. Use visible-area mode when the browser chrome and current viewport are the evidence you need. Element mode is usually cleaner than selecting a region around a component because it follows the highlighted page object.
Copy or download the image
After selecting a target, choose Copy to place the image on the clipboard or Download to save it. Firefox saves a download to its normal default download folder. Mozilla Support says the generated filename includes the date/time and page title, which makes a series of manual captures easier to identify than generic names such as Screenshot.png.
Keyboard operation and accessibility
The screenshot selection interface can be operated with the keyboard. Mozilla Support documents using the arrow keys to move the crosshair and Space or Enter to begin or complete a selection. On Wayland, moving the crosshair with the keyboard does not work; use the pointer or another capture mode instead. This limitation affects selection movement, not the existence of the screenshot command itself.

Capture from the command line
For repeatable file output, Firefox documents a --screenshot [<path>] command-line option. Supplying a path writes the image there; omitting it writes to the working directory. The option implies headless operation, so you do not need to add a separate --headless flag. Add --window-size width[,height] when the screenshot needs a defined viewport.
A single capture looks like this (replace the URL and destination with your own values):
firefox --screenshot shot.png --window-size 1440,900 https://example.com
On systems where the executable is named firefox-esr, use that executable name instead. If Firefox is not on your PATH, provide its full executable path. The command-line reference establishes the screenshot and window-size options, but it does not define a universal page-load wait, network-idle condition, or an official multi-URL loop. Dynamic sites can therefore produce different results depending on when their content becomes available.

firefox --screenshot "shots/shot-$n.png" --window-size 1440,900 "$url"
n=$((n + 1))
done < urls.txt
Put one URL per line in urls.txt. The numeric filenames avoid assumptions about legal filename characters. For production work, add your own logging and exit-status checks, and inspect captures from pages that render content asynchronously. Do not assume that starting the next iteration means the previous page finished all network requests; Mozilla’s reference does not specify that contract.
Choosing between the two Firefox workflows
| Need | Built-in desktop tool | Command line |
|---|---|---|
| Interaction | Point, select, and review the result visually | Run a repeatable file command |
| Capture targets | Region, highlighted element, full page, or visible area | Screenshot viewport controlled by the browser window size |
| Output | Clipboard copy or download to Firefox’s default folder | Path supplied to --screenshot or the working directory |
| Automation certainty | Immediate feedback from the selection UI | Mozilla documents the flag, but not a complete multi-URL loop or readiness wait |
If you need to annotate or crop one page, use the desktop interface. If a build job needs a file at a known viewport size, use the command-line option and validate the output for each site type.
Troubleshooting Firefox captures
“Take Screenshot” is missing from the context menu
Right-click an empty page area rather than a form control or embedded frame. If the site still suppresses the menu, use the platform shortcut or add the button through More Tools > Customize Toolbar.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe full-page result is incomplete
Check whether the page loads content only after scrolling, interaction, or a delayed request. Firefox’s interactive tool provides a full-page target, but the supplied documentation does not promise that every site’s lazy or script-generated content will be forced to render. Try waiting for the page to finish, then capture again; for highly dynamic pages, compare the result with the visible viewport before relying on it.

The command fails with “command not found”
Install Firefox for your operating system or call the executable by its absolute path. Linux distributions may expose an ESR executable instead of firefox. Run the executable’s help output to confirm the spelling accepted by your installation.
The output is in the wrong folder
Use an absolute destination such as /tmp/site-shot.png or C:UsersyouPicturessite-shot.png. If you omit the path, Firefox writes to the process’s working directory, which may differ from the directory containing your script.
The viewport dimensions are wrong
Pass both width and height in --window-size width, height, for example --window-size 1365,768. Remember that a viewport screenshot is not the same as a full-page capture; the command-line reference documents the window size, not an interactive full-page selection mode.

Firefox screenshot data and privacy controls
Mozilla Support says Firefox Screenshots records interaction events such as using Copy or saving a full page, but does not collect the URL or details of the captured image. The same article describes controls for disabling technical and interaction-data collection in Firefox settings. It also says website-data collection respects the browser’s Do Not Track setting. These statements describe the support article’s documented collection behavior; they are not a guarantee about unrelated extensions or websites you capture.
Or skip the browser setup: ScreenshotNeo
If you need an API rather than a person operating Firefox, ScreenshotNeo is the first service to try: it produces clean shots, bills only clean captures, and its paid entry plan is $5 for 3,000 shots. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from a URL.
Before capture, ScreenshotNeo can accept cookie and consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets. Each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing; response headers identify the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed.

AI-agent access through MCP
The ScreenshotNeo MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. That lets an AI agent request a screenshot or PDF without you writing browser-control code.

What “loop” can and cannot mean here
A loop around Firefox’s documented command is simply an external script that supplies URLs one at a time. Firefox itself does not expose a modern “Firefox Loop” screenshot mode, and the available documentation does not establish a built-in scheduler, a guaranteed network-idle wait, or a script that reproduces the desktop tool’s element-selection modes. For a dependable pipeline, decide first whether you need human selection, a fixed viewport file, or an API that reports failed and unbillable captures. Then choose the corresponding workflow above.
