Try Microsoft Edge’s built-in Screenshot first. Press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose a full-page or selected-area capture, add markup if needed, then copy or save the result. If you need a particular export format, editing workflow, or handling for exceptionally long pages, compare an extension’s documented features and permissions before installing it. Availability and behavior can change with your Edge version, device, market, and organization policy.
Start with Edge Screenshot (zero installation)
Microsoft describes Screenshot as a way to turn web content into a shareable image. It can capture an entire webpage or a region you select, supports markup, and lets you copy or save the capture. Open it with Ctrl+Shift+S, or right-click the page and choose the Screenshot command.
- Open the page and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S (or use the right-click menu).
- Choose a full-page capture or drag around a selected area.
- Use the markup tools when you need highlighting, drawing, or other annotations.
- Copy the result to the clipboard or save it locally.
Microsoft’s feature description includes long and moving webpages, but that does not guarantee identical results on every site. Lazy-loaded images, animated components, cross-origin content, browser updates, and enterprise settings can affect a capture. On a managed computer, the WebCaptureEnabled policy controls Edge Screenshot (formerly called Web Capture); an administrator can disable or restrict it.
When an Edge extension is worth installing
An extension makes sense when Edge’s native tool does not provide the output or workflow you require. Decide by the actual deliverable rather than by a “best” label: an image, a PDF, a very long page split into manageable files, or a capture that needs built-in editing.

That makes it a practical candidate when you must deliver a specific raster format or a PDF from the same capture flow. A PDF, PNG, or JPEG deliverable
Use the native feature if copying or saving meets your format requirement. If you specifically need PDF, PNG, and JPEG choices in an extension workflow, FireShot’s listing explicitly describes all three. Confirm the current edition and export behavior in the store before deploying it to a team.
Extremely long pages

Extensions can potentially access page content, browsing activity, or data entered into websites. Microsoft’s Edge privacy guidance says an extension states the data it needs and Edge asks for permission before installation. Read the requested permissions, developer identity, privacy policy, update history, and store reviews in the live listing.

- Install only from the official Microsoft Edge Add-ons store or your organization’s approved catalog.
- Ask why each permission is needed for screenshot capture. Broad access to all websites deserves extra scrutiny.
- Do not capture passwords, payment details, private dashboards, or customer records unless your policy explicitly allows it.
- For regulated or confidential pages, prefer the built-in feature when it meets the requirement, because it avoids adding a third-party extension.
- Remove extensions you no longer use and review permissions after major updates.
A reliable capture workflow
- Prepare the page. Wait for fonts, images, charts, and expandable sections to finish loading. Scroll through the page once if images load only when they enter the viewport.
- Choose the smallest useful scope. Capture a selected region when a full page would expose unrelated personal or confidential information.
- Control dynamic content. Pause carousels or animations when possible. Record the page URL and capture date for auditability.
- Check the output. Inspect the top, bottom, navigation, tables, code blocks, images, and any sticky headers for clipping or duplication.
- Save deliberately. Use a descriptive filename such as
site-section-2026-09-29.png, and keep the original page URL with the file.
Troubleshooting Edge screenshots
The shortcut does nothing
Open the right-click menu and look for Screenshot. If it is absent, restart Edge, check for browser updates, and ask your administrator whether WebCaptureEnabled is disabled. Keyboard shortcuts can also be intercepted by another application or remapped by accessibility software.
The bottom of the page is missing
Use full-page rather than selected-area mode, wait for lazy content to load, and scroll through the page before capturing. Pages that continually append content may never have a stable endpoint; capture in sections and label their order.
Images or charts are blank
Wait for network requests and fonts to finish, disable temporary content blockers for a permitted test, and recapture. A chart rendered only after interaction may require opening its panel first.
Sticky headers or popups cover content
Dismiss overlays before capture. If a site immediately recreates a banner, select only the content region or use an approved extension that provides a documented way to handle the page. Never bypass an access control or bot challenge.
The extension requests more access than expected
Cancel installation and read its privacy policy. If the purpose is unclear, choose Edge Screenshot or obtain security approval rather than granting broad access.

The result is too large to open or share
Capture sections, reduce the selected area, or use an extension whose listing describes splitting very large pages. Verify that split files retain the correct sequence and all required content.
