The most reliable way to save a webpage as a PDF is to open the browser’s Print dialog and choose a PDF destination. On a computer, press Ctrl+P in Windows or Command+P on a Mac, check the print preview, adjust scale, margins, page range, and background graphics, then save. On Android, use the browser’s Share or menu option followed by Print and Save as PDF. On iPhone, Safari uses Markup and Save File To; Firefox for iOS can create a full-page PDF from a screenshot.
Printing creates selectable, searchable document text. A full-page screenshot is better when preserving the page’s visual layout matters more than selectable text. The sections below show both methods, explain why PDFs differ from live pages, and provide an automated option.
Save a webpage as a PDF on a computer
Before saving, let the page finish loading and expand any content you want included. Print preview is the best place to catch clipped columns, missing colors, or an unexpected blank page.
Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Select Settings and more > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS.
- Choose the PDF destination offered by your operating system, then open More settings.
- Set the page range, margins, scale, headers and footers, and Background graphics as needed.
- Inspect every page in preview and select Save.
Turn on Background graphics when colored panels, charts, or shaded sections disappear in the preview. Lowering scale or changing margins usually fixes content that runs beyond the paper edge.

Edge Immersive Reader for a cleaner article
When a site supports it, select the Immersive Reader icon in the address bar or press F9. Print from that simplified view to reduce navigation, advertising, and other page furniture. It is intended for readable articles, not for preserving the original visual design.
Firefox
- Open the page and choose the Firefox menu, then Print.
- In print preview, open Destination and select Save to PDF.
- Review the page breaks and save the file.
If the page needs editing before export, Mozilla also documents a print-edit extension workflow. That can be useful for removing individual sections rather than changing the whole site.
Other desktop browsers
Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers expose a similar Print command. The exact destination label depends on Windows, macOS, or Linux, but the useful controls are the same: destination, pages, paper size, margins, scale, and background graphics. Always rely on the preview instead of assuming the PDF will match the browser tab.

Chrome for Android
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Share, then Print.
- At the top of the print preview, select Save as PDF.
- Choose a folder and filename, then confirm the save.
This route creates a print-style PDF, so a long page may be divided across many pages and responsive mobile layout may be reflowed.

Firefox for Android
- Open the page and tap the three-dot menu.
- Tap Share, choose Save as PDF, and tap Download.
Firefox stores the completed file in the device’s Downloads folder. Use the Files app if you need to rename or move it.
Save a webpage to PDF on iPhone
Safari: print-style PDF
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu or Share button and choose Markup.
- Add annotations if required, then tap Done.
- Choose Save File To, name the PDF, select a location, and save.
Safari’s result follows the page’s printable layout. It may not preserve every visual element from the scrolling page.
Firefox for iOS: full-page capture
- Take a screenshot with your iPhone’s button combination.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail and select Full Page.
- Tap Done, then choose Save as PDF.
This captures the entire scrollable page as one long visual document, which is useful when the goal is appearance and complete vertical coverage rather than reflowed text.

Use the original URL alongside the PDF when later interaction, verification, or updated content matters. A PDF is a snapshot, not a replacement for the live page.

Fix common PDF quality problems
Content is cut off at the right edge
Return to print preview, reduce the scale, change margins, or print a narrower page range. Wide tables and fixed-width layouts are common causes.
Colors, charts, or background panels are missing
Enable Background graphics in Edge’s More settings, then inspect the preview again. Some sites intentionally suppress decorative backgrounds in print styles.
Ads and navigation overwhelm the document
Try Edge Immersive Reader when available. For more selective cleanup, prepare a printable version with a tool such as PrintFriendly, whose current availability should be checked before use.
The mobile PDF contains only one screen
On Android, use the browser’s Print flow rather than a regular screenshot. On iPhone Firefox, select Full Page in the screenshot editor before saving as PDF.

Interactive controls do not work in the PDF
Forms, menus, video, and other live controls are not preserved as working web components. Keep the source URL with the file if you need to revisit or verify the content.
Fonts or images look different
Wait for web fonts and lazy-loaded images to finish loading before opening Print. If a site changes its layout for print, a full-page screenshot is the closer visual record.

Can a PDF preserve a webpage’s exact responsive layout at every screen size?
No single PDF method guarantees that. Print output follows print CSS and reflows content into paper pages; a full-page screenshot preserves one rendered viewport. Choose the viewport or device size deliberately when visual fidelity matters.
Should I use a PDF or an image for legal or archival review?
Use a PDF when searchable text and page-level printing are important, and retain the original URL and capture date. Use a full-page image when proving the visual arrangement is the priority; neither format preserves live interaction.
