Fix a LinkedIn link preview by checking the URL for spaces, verifying the destination page’s Open Graph or oEmbed metadata, and refreshing the URL in LinkedIn Post Inspector. A refresh affects new posts only; LinkedIn advises allowing up to 48 hours for updated preview data to appear. If you publish from a LinkedIn Page, an eligible super admin or content admin can edit the title and image before publishing.
Identify what is actually failing
LinkedIn preview problems fall into four different cases. The remedy depends on which one you have:

LinkedIn documents its URL-sharing behavior in Troubleshooting issues sharing URLs.
1. Confirm that the URL is shareable
Remove spaces from the address
LinkedIn says a URL containing spaces cannot be shared. Check the entire address, including query parameters and copied tracking text. The site owner should remove the whitespace or encode it correctly before you try again. Do not diagnose metadata until LinkedIn accepts a syntactically valid URL.

Follow redirects to the intended page
If the address redirects, open it in a browser and confirm that it lands on the page you intend to share. A redirect to a login screen, an error page, or a different canonical page can produce a card that appears unrelated. Correct the link or the destination first, then retest.
2. Check the page’s share metadata
When LinkedIn accepts the URL but the card is blank or inaccurate, the problem is usually on the source page. LinkedIn says its share box uses oEmbed and/or Open Graph data to find the most accurate title, description, and image. Missing or incorrect data can therefore leave LinkedIn with incomplete information or cause it to display another part of the site.
What the site owner should inspect
- Whether the page exposes valid Open Graph and/or oEmbed information.
- Whether the metadata describes the exact URL being shared rather than a different page.
- Whether the title, description, and image values are current and match the intended article.
- Whether a CMS, redirect, or template change has removed or replaced those values.
LinkedIn’s guidance does not establish a universal image file format, a required crawler allow-list, or one mandatory set of tag values. Treat those as site-specific implementation questions rather than guaranteed LinkedIn requirements. Have the site owner make the correction, then move to the cache-refresh procedure.
3. Refresh an old preview with Post Inspector
- Open LinkedIn’s Post Inspector.
- Enter the complete URL you plan to share.
- Run the inspection and review the title, description, and image LinkedIn reports.
- If the source page was changed, correct its metadata before running the inspection again.
- Create a new LinkedIn post using the URL after the inspector shows the desired information.
Post Inspector refreshes the information used for new posts. It does not rewrite a preview that is already attached to a published post. If an old post contains the wrong card, publish a new post after the corrected preview is available.

Allow time for the cache
LinkedIn’s URL troubleshooting guidance advises waiting 48 hours after sharing a URL or updating its site tags for refreshed preview information to appear. Keep that timing expectation specific to outdated preview data; it is not a guarantee that a malformed URL or missing metadata will repair itself.
4. Customize a preview when posting from a LinkedIn Page
LinkedIn documents editing controls for posts created by a LinkedIn Page. An eligible Page super admin or content admin can:
- Paste the URL into the Page post composer.
- Use the preview’s edit control.
- Select an image and edit the article title.
- Review the result and publish the post.
LinkedIn recommends a 1.91:1 ratio (1200×627 pixels) for this Page-post preview image. Images narrower than 200 pixels display as a small thumbnail instead of the larger image treatment. These controls and figures apply to LinkedIn Page administrators; do not assume that the same editing interface is available for every personal-profile post. Decision guide: choose the fix that matches the symptom
- URL rejected: remove or encode spaces, then verify the redirect destination.
- Fields missing or wrong: correct the source page’s Open Graph and/or oEmbed data.
- Correct data, old card: run Post Inspector, create a new post, and allow the documented 48-hour refresh window.
- Need a different image or title on a Page: use the Page composer’s edit controls as an eligible super or content admin.
- Existing post is wrong: do not expect Post Inspector to alter it; publish a new post.

A browser lets you confirm what a visitor sees, while Post Inspector tells you what LinkedIn has found. Use both when debugging:

- Open the final URL in a private browser window and confirm it loads without an unexpected login or error page.
- Check the address for spaces and confirm any redirect ends at the intended article.
- Have the site owner verify Open Graph/oEmbed output after publishing metadata changes.
- Run Post Inspector and compare its reported title, description, and image with the intended card.
- Publish a new post and wait up to 48 hours if the data was recently changed.
Common failure modes and fixes
“The URL will not post”
Inspect for literal spaces. LinkedIn says a URL with spaces cannot be shared. Replace them with correct URL encoding or remove the unnecessary text, then paste the cleaned address.
“The preview has no image”
Ask the site owner to check whether the page supplies Open Graph and/or oEmbed information and whether the image value is present for that exact URL. For a LinkedIn Page post, an eligible admin can select an image manually; use LinkedIn’s 1.91:1, 1200×627-pixel recommendation.
“LinkedIn still shows the old title”
Run Post Inspector after the source metadata is corrected. The refreshed value applies to new posts, not existing ones. Allow the stated 48-hour period for updated preview information to propagate.
“The card is correct in Inspector but wrong in an old post”
This is expected platform behavior: Post Inspector does not change previews already published. Create a new post with the URL.

“Page editing controls are missing”
Check that you are posting as the LinkedIn Page and that your account is an eligible super admin or content admin. The documented title-and-image editing workflow is for Page posts, not every posting context.
