Fastest option: connect the ScreenshotsCloud Slack app and run /screenshot URL in a conversation. For recurring captures, use Slack Workflow Builder with a schedule or webhook trigger, then have a screenshot service or custom app generate and post the image. Slack can trigger and route the workflow, but its documented workflow tools do not include a native webpage-screenshot action.
Choose the automation that matches your trigger
There are three practical designs. A manual slash command is best when someone in Slack requests a capture. A scheduled workflow suits daily, hourly or event-calendar checks. A webhook workflow works when an external monitoring system knows that a page changed or an incident occurred. If the available connector cannot render the page, build a custom Slack app or workflow step.

1. Connect the integration
- Open the ScreenshotsCloud Screenshots & Slack Integration listing.
- Choose the option to connect it to your workspace and complete Slack’s authorization flow. Workspace owners may need to approve the app.
- Confirm that the account conditions shown by the listing apply to you; it describes the integration as available to trial and premium ScreenshotsCloud users.
2. Run the slash command
In a channel or direct message where the app is available, enter:

The service returns the capture to Slack according to its integration behavior. Its listing describes controls for viewport size, mobile screenshots and full-page screenshots; select those options in the integration rather than assuming Slack itself provides them.

3. Make the command reliable
- Use a complete
https://URL when redirects, authentication or an unusual host make resolution ambiguous. - Capture a stable page state. A page that is still loading, requires a login, or changes after JavaScript runs may produce a different image than the one you see in your browser.
- Do not paste passwords, API keys or private tokens into a public channel. Use the vendor’s supported authentication or a private channel.
Scheduled captures with Workflow Builder
Slack’s Workflow Builder guide explains how to create workflows and add steps. The screenshot itself must come from an external service or custom step.
Create the schedule
- Open Workflow Builder in Slack and create a new workflow.
- Select the schedule trigger and choose the recurrence and time zone appropriate for your team.
- Add the action that calls your screenshot service, connector or custom workflow step. Pass the target URL and any capture settings as inputs.
- Add a Slack message step that posts the returned image or a URL to the chosen channel. Include the page address and capture time so recipients can identify the result.
- Publish the workflow, then run a test at a time when you can inspect both the generated image and the posted message.
Slack documents the trigger and routing mechanics, not a built-in “take a website screenshot” action. If no connector in your workspace performs rendering, use the custom implementation described below.
Event-driven captures from an outside system
For a deployment, price change, content release or monitoring alert, use Slack’s webhook workflow. The Slack webhook workflow documentation says an external service sends an HTTP POST to the workflow URL, and later steps can use the submitted custom variables.

- Create a workflow whose trigger starts outside Slack.
- Define variables for the page URL, an event label and any identifier your downstream step needs. Slack documents a maximum of 20 variables.
- Copy the generated request URL into the external monitor or automation system.
- Add a screenshot-generation step, then a message step that posts the resulting image or link.
- Send a test POST and verify that the workflow receives the values and posts to the intended channel.
Slack documents a limit of one webhook request per second. That is the workflow trigger’s limit, not a general limit imposed on your screenshot provider. Webhook workflows are documented as paid-plan features, and workspace owners or admins can restrict access. Treat the request URL as a secret: Slack warns that anyone who has it can start the workflow. Rotate or replace it if it is exposed.

Example request shape
The exact variable names are the ones you define in Workflow Builder. A generic request therefore looks like this:

When to build a custom Slack app
If you need authentication, custom waiting logic, image processing or an event type that Workflow Builder cannot express, implement a Slack app or custom workflow step. Slack’s Workflows documentation describes custom steps built with the Deno Slack SDK or Bolt. The Deno SDK can use Slack-hosted app infrastructure, while Bolt applications are self-hosted; select the model that fits your deployment and security requirements.
Typical custom-step sequence
- Receive the URL and event data from a slash command, shortcut, event subscription or workflow step.
- Validate allowed schemes and hosts, and apply your own authorization rules.
- Call a screenshot API or run a controlled browser service.
- Wait for completion if the capture is asynchronous, then handle timeout and failure states.
- Upload the image to Slack or post a signed, time-limited link, depending on your retention policy.
- Return a clear success or error result to the workflow.
Keep browser credentials and Slack signing secrets outside source code. Log request IDs and verdicts rather than storing page contents unnecessarily.

The slash command is unknown
Confirm that the ScreenshotsCloud app is installed in the workspace and that you are using the exact /screenshot command. An administrator may have restricted app use; ask the workspace owner to review the app approval and channel availability.

The command runs but no image appears
Check the target URL, vendor account status and app permissions. Try a public HTTPS page first, then inspect whether the page requires login, blocks automated browsers or never reaches a stable load state.
The scheduled workflow never runs
Open the workflow in Workflow Builder and verify that it is published, enabled and using the intended time zone. Confirm that connector authentication has not expired and that an administrator has not disabled the required feature.
The webhook returns an error
Send valid JSON with the variable names configured in the workflow, keep requests at or below one per second, and check that the workflow URL has not been revoked. Never expose the URL in client-side code or a public repository.
The screenshot is incomplete or cluttered

Operational checklist
- Define the trigger, destination channel and expected frequency before choosing a route.
- Decide whether the Slack message should contain an uploaded image, a signed link or both.
- Set timeouts and retry behavior in the external screenshot component; do not retry a failing webhook indefinitely.
- Record the source URL, event identifier, capture timestamp and success or failure status.
- Restrict private pages and credentials, and review Slack app and connector permissions with an administrator.
- Test redirects, cookie banners, lazy-loaded content, mobile dimensions and long pages with representative URLs.
