To save only part of a webpage as a PDF, first decide what “selected” means: select text or images on the page and print that selection, or save only certain page numbers after the browser creates its print layout. In Microsoft Edge, select the content, right-click and choose Print, then choose a PDF destination. In Firefox, open print settings, choose Save to PDF, and enter the output pages you want. Always inspect the preview because a webpage can paginate differently from its screen view.
Choose the kind of selection you need
Browsers use the word selection for two different jobs. Choosing the right one prevents you from exporting the wrong content.
Selection of webpage content
This means selecting text or images in the original HTML page before printing. It is useful when you want one article section, a table excerpt or a quotation without the rest of the page. Edge supports printing the text or images you have highlighted.

This means allowing the browser to lay out the entire page, then keeping only pages from that layout—for example pages 2–3 or pages 1, 4 and 7. It does not select an HTML element. A long navigation block, an image or a changed font can move the section onto different PDF pages.

Save selected text or images in Microsoft Edge
- Select the content. Drag over the text or images you want. Keep the selection continuous when possible; separate selections may not print as one clean block.
- Open the selection’s menu. Right-click the highlighted area and choose Print. Edge’s support guidance describes this selection-print workflow.
- Check the preview. Confirm that the preview contains the selected material rather than the whole page. Look for missing images, tables, headings, footnotes and unexpected blank pages.
- Choose a PDF destination. In the printer or destination list, select the available PDF option, such as Save as PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF, depending on your operating system.
- Adjust layout controls. Set portrait or landscape orientation, paper size, margins and scale. If the selection is clipped, try landscape, narrower margins or a smaller scale.
- Save the file. Pick a name and folder, then open the resulting PDF to verify that links, images and page breaks survived.
Exact labels can differ by Edge version, operating system and locale. If the right-click menu has no print command for the selection, use the normal print dialog and test whether a Selection option appears.
Save selected pages from the print layout
- Open print preview. Use your browser’s print command (for example, the browser menu or Ctrl/Cmd + P).
- Choose the PDF destination. Select Save to PDF, Save as PDF or the equivalent PDF printer.
- Inspect page thumbnails. Count the pages in the preview. Do not assume that the page number shown by the website matches the PDF page number.
- Set the page range. In the Pages field choose a custom range. Edge supports ranges and comma-separated values such as
2-3or1,4,7; Firefox provides a Pages control for the same purpose. - Save and verify. Open the PDF and check its first and last pages. If a heading is cut off, return to preview and change margins, scale or orientation.
Page ranges act after print layout. They cannot isolate a paragraph that happens to share a printed page with unrelated material. For that case, select the content itself or use a reader-style view.
Firefox: Save to PDF and Simplified format
Firefox’s print dialog includes Save to PDF and a Pages control. Select the destination, enter the pages to retain, review the preview and save. Firefox may also offer Simplified format. This can remove navigation and other clutter for a reading-focused PDF, but it is not available for every page and can change the appearance or omit layout elements.

Use the original print rendering when the page’s tables, branding, diagrams or links must remain in their site-like arrangement. Mozilla notes that web pages can appear differently on paper, so the preview is the authority.
Chrome and reader-style views
Chrome’s Reading mode can make an article easier to print when it is available. Google cautions that Reading mode may not work as expected on some pages. It can remove navigation and advertisements, but it may also alter tables, images, interactive examples or page order.

- Open the page’s available Reading mode or reader-style view.
- Confirm that the text, images and tables you need are present.
- Print the reader view to a PDF destination.
- Use the page-range field if you need only certain output pages.
If Reading mode changes the content too much, close it and print the original page instead.
When built-in printing is not enough
Try a simplified or reader view
A reader view is useful for an article surrounded by menus, related links and comments. It is less suitable for dashboards, design mockups, maps and pages where positioning is part of the meaning.

Use a browser extension cautiously
The Mozilla Add-ons listing for Webpage To Pdf file describes full-page, article-only and selected-content modes. That listing establishes that the extension is offered; it is not independent proof of its security, quality or current compatibility. Before installing any extension, check its current permissions, publisher, update history and privacy policy. Remove it if it requests access unrelated to exporting pages.
Copy the content into a document
For a short, text-only excerpt, copying the selection into a document and exporting that document can produce a cleaner result. This is a manual reconstruction, however: it may lose links, source styling, image credits and accessibility metadata.
Improve the PDF before saving
- Margins: Narrow margins create more usable space but can cause clipping on printers or viewers.
- Scale: Reduce scale when wide tables overflow; increase it only after checking that no content is cut off.
- Orientation: Landscape is often better for spreadsheets and comparison tables; portrait suits normal articles.
- Background graphics: Enable them when color coding or diagrams carry meaning. Disable them for a smaller, ink-saving document.
- Headers and footers: Turn them off when browser URLs, dates or titles would distract from the selected content.
- Links: Open the saved PDF and test important links. Some print paths preserve clickable links while others render only visible text.
Troubleshooting selected-content exports
The PDF contains the whole webpage
You probably used the normal print command rather than the selection-print command. In Edge, select the text or images first, right-click the selection and choose Print. If that option is unavailable, use reader mode or an extension that explicitly supports selected-content export.

The selection is blank or incomplete
Dynamic pages can replace content after you select it. Wait for images and embedded widgets to finish loading, select again, and preview. If the content is inside an embedded frame, browser printing may treat it as a separate document; open the frame directly when the site permits.

Images, tables or colors are missing
Check whether the print dialog suppresses background graphics. Try the original page instead of simplified format, switch orientation for wide tables and reduce scale. Some interactive or lazy-loaded elements do not have a printable representation.
The page numbers do not match what you expected
Print layout depends on paper size, margins, fonts and browser version. Count the preview pages after all settings are applied, then enter the resulting numbers in the custom range field.
A page break splits a heading or table row
Change scale or margins, switch orientation, or print a smaller selection. Browser print CSS controls breaks and cannot always keep a complex element together.
The PDF is huge or slow to open
Disable unnecessary background images, select only required pages and avoid printing video posters or large galleries. If a site loads content only after scrolling, scroll through the needed area before printing.

The browser has no PDF destination
On systems without a built-in PDF destination, install or enable the operating system’s PDF printer. Do not buy a physical printer for this workflow; the browser can create a PDF file directly when a PDF destination is available.
