Short answer: Airbnb does not present its API as an unrestricted public listings-search API. Airbnb’s API Terms, last updated October 15, 2025, describe controlled access for host services and related partner programs; they also prohibit using API scopes or content to scrape, build static copies or databases, or analyze pricing and other data. Airbnb’s platform rules separately prohibit automated collection. A third-party service may advertise Airbnb listings in JSON, but that does not make it Airbnb-authorized or give you the right to retain or reuse the results.
If your project needs listing data, start with authorization and permitted use, not the output format. Use an approved integration or a data provider whose contract expressly covers your intended source, geography, fields, storage, and commercial use. JSON can make permitted data easier to process; it cannot make prohibited collection permissible.
Is there an official Airbnb listings API that returns JSON?
The available official scope described in Airbnb’s API Terms is controlled partner access for host services and related integration programs. Access depends on the program and the scopes granted to the participating organization. That is different from a generally available API for searching public listings, downloading listing records, or building a market database.

Airbnb’s API Terms, last updated October 15, 2025, prohibit using API scopes or their content to scrape or collect information for static copies, databases, or demographic, pricing, financial, or other data analysis. The rule matters even if a request is technically possible or the response can be converted to JSON: access to an API is not blanket permission for every purpose.

Airbnb also states in its platform rules: “Do not use bots, crawlers, scrapers or other automated means to access or collect data or other content from or otherwise interact with the Airbnb Platform.” Treat this as a separate restriction from the API program rules. A vendor’s ability to make an automated request does not establish that Airbnb authorizes the request or that your planned use is permitted.
What “Airbnb scraper API” usually means
The phrase usually describes a third-party service or developer workflow that retrieves listing pages and produces structured data, often JSON. It does not mean Airbnb operates or endorses that service. Terms such as “API,” “managed,” “proxy,” or “JSON output” describe a technical interface or product claim; by themselves, they say nothing conclusive about permission, completeness, accuracy, or the right to store and reuse results.
There are two distinct questions to answer:
- Can the service return data? This is a technical and vendor-specific question about supported pages, fields, freshness, limits, and output.
- May you collect and use that data this way? This depends on applicable platform rules, your authorization, the provider’s contract, and the use you intend to make of the data.
A “yes” to the first question does not resolve the second. Do not describe a third-party extractor as official, Airbnb-approved, or safe for database building unless current Airbnb terms and the provider’s contract support that statement.

Separate authorization, extraction, normalization, and storage. This keeps the source of each field and the permission for each use visible instead of treating JSON conversion as the whole workflow.

- Define the purpose. Write down whether the data is for a host-service integration, an internal operational task, research, pricing analysis, or a public/commercial database. The intended use affects which permissions you need. Do not assume that data visible in a browser is available for bulk collection or analysis.
- Establish authorization before collection. For an Airbnb integration, confirm that your organization is participating in a relevant program and that the granted scopes cover the exact operation. For a third-party source, obtain the provider’s current terms and written clarity about the source, permitted purposes, fields, regions, retention, and onward sharing. If the planned use is not expressly covered, pause and resolve it before ingesting records.
- Extract only permitted fields. Use the approved integration or a provider workflow that contractually supports your use. Keep a record of source, collection time, authorization basis, and any restrictions that travel with the data. Avoid collecting extra personal or listing information merely because a response exposes it.
- Normalize into your own schema. Map permitted source fields to stable internal names and types. Preserve missing or uncertain values as missing or uncertain; do not silently infer values, merge different units, or imply that a vendor’s field names are Airbnb’s official schema.
- Apply storage and deletion rules. Set access controls, retention periods, deletion procedures, and restrictions on exports or downstream analysis before data enters a warehouse. Check whether your provider allows caching or historical retention, and whether its obligations match the ones that apply to your organization.
- Recheck before changing the use. A workflow permitted for a host-service integration may not be permitted for pricing research, public redistribution, or a broader database. Reassess authorization and contractual terms when you change purpose, geography, fields, or recipients.
A neutral JSON shape for data you are allowed to use
The following is an illustrative internal record, not an Airbnb response schema and not a suggestion to scrape these fields. Include only fields your authorization and provider terms permit. Use a stable identifier only where you are permitted to retain one.
{
"source": "authorized-provider-or-integration",
"collected_at": "2026-09-29T12:00:00Z",
"record_id": "provider-defined-id",
"location": {
"region": null,
"country": null
},
"attributes": {},
"provenance": {
"authorization_basis": "documented-permission",
"provider_schema_version": null
}
}
Keep provenance alongside the record. A timestamp tells you when the data was obtained; it does not establish that the data was authorized, current, complete, or suitable for a particular decision.
How to evaluate a third-party listing-data API
Ask the vendor for concrete answers before building an integration. If a material answer is not stated in the contract or documentation, treat it as unresolved rather than assuming the most favorable interpretation.
- Authorization and permitted use: What is the stated source of the data? Does the contract explicitly permit your use, including analysis, commercial use, retention, and database construction where relevant? Does it address applicable platform restrictions?
- Coverage and geography: Which regions, listing types, and fields are actually supported? Is coverage documented, and how are unavailable or restricted records represented? Do not infer worldwide coverage from a sample response.
- Freshness and history: Is data retrieved on demand, periodically updated, or drawn from a historical store? What does a timestamp mean? Is historical data provided, and what rights apply to storing it?
- Schema and pagination: Are fields documented with types, null behavior, pagination rules, and schema-change notices? Can you distinguish an absent value from an extraction failure? Is there a stable identifier, and may you retain it?
- Limits and failure handling: What rate limits, concurrency limits, timeouts, retries, and response codes apply? How are blocked, incomplete, or failed fetches reported? Do not design around undocumented limits or assume bot-detection handling means authorized collection.
- Privacy and security: What personal data can be returned? How is it protected, retained, and deleted? Can your organization restrict access, and does the vendor disclose subprocessors or data-location terms relevant to your requirements?
- Reliability and support: Is an SLA stated? What support channel and incident process are included? Check the actual service commitment and exclusions rather than relying on a sales description.
- Total cost: Determine whether billing is by request, successful record, credit, or another unit; account for retries, failed responses, storage, and downstream processing. Obtain the current commercial terms directly from the vendor. No general market price or request allowance can be inferred here.
Why JSON does not answer the permission question
JSON is a machine-analyzable interchange format, not a license. Airbnb documents JSON in the context of a member’s own personal-data export. That is a useful example of JSON as a format, but it does not grant permission to scrape public listings or convert them into a database.

Likewise, a successful response, a downloadable file, or a vendor dashboard does not establish permission to retain, compare, publish, or sell the contents. Consider authorization and use rights separately for every stage: collection, transformation, storage, analysis, and sharing.
Screenshot alternative for visual records—not listing JSON
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not an Airbnb listings API. It returns an image or PDF rather than structured listing fields, so it is not a replacement for a permitted listing-data feed and cannot turn a screenshot into authorized JSON. It may be relevant when your separate, authorized task is to capture a visual record of a page.
Or skip the browser setup
For an authorized page capture, one GET request can return a screenshot. This example targets a page you control; it does not extract Airbnb listing data. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, and the Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. These capture features do not grant permission to collect or reuse Airbnb data.

Troubleshooting a JSON data workflow
The vendor says “API,” but does not identify its source or rights
Do not treat the API label as proof of authorization. Ask for the source, applicable terms, permitted purposes, retention rights, and restrictions on database building in writing. If the vendor cannot establish that your exact use is covered, do not ingest the records for that use.
The API returns valid JSON, but fields are missing or inconsistent
Valid JSON only means the response parses. Validate required fields, types, timestamps, and null behavior against the provider’s documented schema. Keep raw responses only if retention is permitted, log schema versions, and route unexpected shapes to review rather than silently coercing them.

Records change between requests
Establish what the provider means by freshness and whether it supplies historical snapshots. Do not assume repeated retrieval creates an authorized history or that a field represents a stable value. Store collection timestamps and provenance only within the retention rights you have.
A request is blocked, incomplete, or times out
Use documented retry and error-handling behavior for an authorized service. Do not respond to a block by evading platform controls or switching to automated collection that conflicts with platform rules. Escalate through the provider’s support or the integration program responsible for your access.

Your project changes from operations to pricing analysis or a public database
Stop and reassess before using existing records for the new purpose. Airbnb’s API Terms expressly address static copies, databases, and pricing or other data analysis. A prior technical integration or vendor purchase does not by itself establish rights for a new purpose.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does converting a personal-data export to JSON authorize collecting public listing pages?
No. Airbnb’s documentation of JSON for a member’s own personal-data export describes a format and context; it does not grant permission to automate collection of public listing content.
