On Android 12 and later, the most reliable way to stop a scrolling screenshot at a particular element is to take a regular screenshot, tap Capture more, then drag the crop boundary so the element is the last content included. On some Android phones, the manufacturer’s scrolling-capture tool instead has a stop control you can tap while it scrolls; its location and behavior vary by device.
Stop an Android scrolling screenshot at the element you want
Google’s scrolling-screenshot instructions apply to devices running Android 12 and later, on most screens that allow scrolling. The crop-boundary method is useful because you choose the endpoint after the screenshot preview appears, rather than trying to time an automatic scroll perfectly. It works only where the screen and app support scrolling capture.
- Open the webpage, conversation, document, or settings screen you want to capture.
- Press Power + Volume Down to take a normal screenshot.
- In the screenshot preview, tap Capture more.
- Drag the crop handles or boundary until the element you want is at the bottom edge of the selected image. Check that the preceding content you need remains inside the crop.
- Save or share the image using the controls shown on your phone.
The wording and preview controls can differ slightly by phone, but the key is to adjust the capture boundary before saving. If you include too much, reopen the capture and move the boundary up; if you cut off the target, move it down far enough to include the whole element.
If the phone scrolls automatically
Some manufacturers provide a scrolling-capture or stop control while the phone is moving down the page. Tap it as soon as the target appears, then review the result before saving. A Huawei device manual, for example, says the user can touch the screen at any time to stop scrolling. That is a device-specific instruction, not a universal Android gesture: if touching the screen does not stop your phone, look for a visible stop, pause, or checkmark control in the capture interface, or use Capture more and set the crop boundary instead.

Why Capture more may be missing or stop early
Android’s scrolling capture is supported on most, not all, screens that allow scrolling. A screen can scroll normally and still not offer a long screenshot: the app may use a custom view, protect its content, or contain a separate nested scrolling panel that the capture tool cannot extend. Availability also varies by device and software version.
- Check Android version: Google documents the feature for Android 12 and later. If your phone runs an earlier version, the same control may not be available.
- Try a standard screen: Take a screenshot of a normal webpage in a browser or a scrollable Settings page. If Capture more appears there but not in the original app, the app’s screen is likely the compatibility limit.
- Check which area is scrolling: A page with a separate pane, embedded document, or nested list may not expose the portion you expect to the system screenshot tool.
- Use an app-provided export: For protected or custom content, look for a share, print, download, or export option. If none is available, take multiple ordinary screenshots rather than assuming scrolling capture can bypass the restriction.
If Capture more is missing even in a standard browser or Settings screen on a supported Android release, check your phone maker’s help for its screenshot controls. The feature is not promised on every scrollable screen or every device.
Desktop alternatives for a webpage
If the target is a website rather than an app screen, a desktop browser can capture the full page without requiring you to stop an automatic phone scroll. The result may be a tall image or a file produced by a separate capture tool; choose based on whether you need to inspect the page, share it, or archive it.

Microsoft Edge
In Edge, open the browser menu or invoke its Screenshot command and choose Capture full page. This captures content beyond the visible screen, so you do not need to stop at a particular point. The command’s availability can vary by device, market, and browser version. If it is absent, try updating Edge or use the browser’s available screenshot command if present.

Chrome does not offer the same one-click full-page command as Edge in the described workflow. For a webpage you can open in Chrome, use DevTools’ command menu and select Capture full size screenshot. This is a browser-based alternative rather than an Android scrolling screenshot, and it is suited to web content you can load in the browser. For the exact menu sequence, consult the current Chrome DevTools interface because labels and access methods can change between versions.
Windows utility fallback
PicPick offers a Screen Capture → Scrolling Window mode for webpages or PDF windows, with custom delays. It can be useful when built-in browser capture is unavailable, but it is a third-party utility rather than a phone feature. A stitched scrolling capture can be less reliable when content changes while being captured or when the window does not scroll as expected; review the resulting image for gaps or duplicated sections.

Choose the capture method by content and endpoint

If you specifically need the screenshot to end at an element, Android’s crop boundary is the direct choice. Desktop full-page commands are alternatives when capturing an entire webpage is acceptable; they are not the same as stopping a phone’s scrolling capture at a chosen point.

Troubleshooting common capture problems
The capture continues past the target
If you used automatic scrolling, stop it with the visible control as soon as the target appears. If the phone offers Capture more, use the crop boundary to choose the endpoint instead of relying on scroll timing.
The target is cut off
Move the crop boundary far enough to include the complete element, including any content just below it that is part of what you need. Review the preview before saving; a long capture can make it easy to overlook a clipped final line.
The capture ends before the app’s content does
Test a standard browser page or Settings screen. If those support Capture more but the app does not, use the app’s own export or share feature, a desktop browser for a webpage, or separate screenshots. Scrolling capture is not guaranteed for custom or protected screens.

A desktop full-page image is incomplete or repeated
Dynamic pages can load or change content during capture, and a scrolling utility may stitch multiple viewport images together. Try again after the page settles, check any delay setting in the utility, and inspect the entire output before relying on it. For Edge or Chrome, use the browser’s full-page command when available rather than manually stitching captures.

Can I stop a scrolling screenshot at an exact pixel?
The documented Android workflow lets you adjust the crop boundary, but it does not specify pixel-level precision. Set the visible boundary around the element, then check the preview for clipping.
Can I use this method to save an entire chat or document?
Only if the screen supports scrolling capture and the content is available to the capture tool. For content that does not extend into the screenshot, use the app’s export or share function where available.
