Templated and Orshot both generate repeatable media from templates and API-supplied data; neither is a general-purpose AI art generator. Choose by the formats and mix you render, how each service counts usage, and whether you need integrations or workflow features beyond rendering. The published pages reviewed on September 29, 2026, show different credit models, so compare your expected workload—not just the price or headline credit count. Pricing and limits can change.
What these APIs do—and what they do not
Both services are designed to take a reusable template, populate it with values such as text, colors, or images, and return generated media. That makes them suited to repeatable jobs: product cards, social graphics, certificates, personalized reports, or other visuals that share a layout but vary by record.
They are not described in the reviewed documentation as open-ended AI art generators. The documented workflow is template plus data, rather than a text prompt that invents a new composition. This distinction matters: if you need consistent branding and predictable placement, templated rendering is the relevant model; if you need novel artwork, this comparison does not establish either service as the tool for that job.

A developer-managed template can be straightforward for a fixed product workflow. Compare credits against the work you actually generate
A credit count is useful only after you know what it buys. Templated’s pricing page, reviewed September 29, 2026, lists monthly allowances of 1,000 for Starter, 5,000 for Scale, and 25,000 for Enterprise. It also lists API request limits of 60, 150, and 300 requests per minute for those respective plan rows. Those are plan figures displayed on the page at review time, not a promise that all plans or terms will remain unchanged.
Orshot’s pricing page, also reviewed September 29, 2026, displays a free plan with 100 monthly credits, Launch at $39 per month with 1,500 credits, Grow at $160 per month with 20,000 credits, and Scale at $349 per month with 75,000 credits. Orshot defines one credit as one image, one PDF page, or one second of video. Prices and allowances are a snapshot; confirm current terms before purchasing.

Templated’s page calls its units render credits but the reviewed material does not define their equivalence to Orshot’s shared unit. Do not assume that 1,000 Templated credits and 1,000 Orshot credits cover the same workload. Likewise, an image-heavy job and a video-heavy job consume Orshot credits at very different rates under its stated definition.

Estimate a representative month
- Count the images, PDF pages, and video seconds you expect to produce, including retries and foreseeable growth.
- For an Orshot estimate, apply its stated accounting: one credit per image, per PDF page, or per second of video. Add the units together.
- For Templated, use its published monthly render-credit allowance as the plan comparison point, then verify in its current documentation or with the vendor how your exact outputs consume credits.
- Compare the resulting allowance to the plan’s request-rate limit, where stated. A monthly allowance does not by itself establish that a burst of requests will be accepted.
- Confirm whether the current plan includes the specific output format and any required workflow option before committing.
Formats: select by endpoint, not just marketing list
Templated lists JPG, PNG, WebP, PDF, and MP4 on its pricing page. Orshot lists PNG, JPG, WebP, and AVIF on its image API page, while its pricing material also covers PDF and video generation. Those lists are not proof that every format is available from every endpoint or on every plan. If the choice depends on AVIF, a PDF workflow, or video, verify the exact endpoint and current plan documentation rather than inferring support from a broad product page.
Also decide what the consuming system needs. A web page may favor a compressed raster format; a document workflow may need PDF pages; a video workflow changes both output handling and, for Orshot, credit consumption. Include file delivery and downstream storage in the proof of concept, not only whether the API returns a successful render.
Integration and template workflow
Templated: a documented REST render flow
Templated’s official API guide describes a POST request to a render endpoint containing a template identifier and dynamic layer properties. The documented examples include values such as text, color, background, and image URL. Its render endpoint documentation says the generated image, PDF, or video is available at the returned URL. This is a clear documented starting point for an application that already knows how it will manage templates and call a REST API.
Orshot: more listed integration choices
Orshot documents raw REST and first-party SDKs for Node, Python, Ruby, and PHP, as well as dynamic URLs and multi-page renders. Its product material also lists storage destinations, integrations, and social publishing. These may reduce glue code if they match your existing stack and distribution process, but they are vendor-described capabilities; confirm the exact behavior, supported destinations, and plan terms for your intended workflow.
The reviewed materials do not establish feature parity between the services. In particular, do not infer that a feature absent from one short summary is unavailable, or that a feature listed for one service has an equivalent implementation in the other. Ask a narrower question against the current documentation: can the specific template be edited by the intended user, can the output land in the required destination, and can the integration handle your payload and volume?
Which one should you choose?
Choose Templated when
- Your workflow fits a template-ID-plus-layer-values REST render request.
- The formats you need are among its listed JPG, PNG, WebP, PDF, or MP4 outputs, subject to endpoint and plan confirmation.
- You want to compare a published monthly render-credit allowance and the listed plan-specific request-rate limits against your workload.
- Your implementation can handle the returned output URL and the surrounding template and delivery logic.
Choose Orshot when
- You value the listed Node, Python, Ruby, or PHP SDKs, or dynamic URLs and multi-page rendering, after confirming they fit your implementation.
- Your workflow benefits from its vendor-listed storage destinations, integrations, or social publishing.
- You can budget using its stated shared-credit rule and your output mix—especially if PDF pages or video seconds make up a substantial share.
- You need to investigate AVIF support for the particular image endpoint you plan to call.
Do not pick on a universal “cheapest” or “fastest” claim
The published credit figures do not provide a like-for-like cost comparison because Templated’s reviewed material does not define a unit equivalence to Orshot’s. Nor do the reviewed pages establish comparative latency or reliability. Orshot advertises performance and uptime claims, but those claims have not been independently validated here. Neither service can be responsibly called faster or more reliable on this evidence.
For a production decision, build a small trial around real templates and realistic payloads. Measure end-to-end time in your own environment, test expected concurrency and failures, inspect returned output and URLs, and verify how retries affect usage. This is a test plan, not a reported benchmark: the reviewed sources contain no independent comparative performance study.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a direct substitute for Templated or Orshot’s template-based media generation. Try it first if the job is to capture an existing web page as an image or PDF rather than generate a designed asset by filling template layers. Its captures can remove cookie-consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed. Its MCP server offers screenshot tools for AI agents.
For example, a single GET request can capture a web page:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details. The service also offers 1,000 screenshots per month free with no card required; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. If that matches your use case, sign up for the free plan.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to verify before launch
- Output and plan: Confirm the required format is supported by the endpoint and plan you will use, including any PDF or video requirements.
- Unit economics: Calculate usage using the vendor’s definition of a credit; do not compare raw credit counts across providers without an equivalent definition.
- Request capacity: For Templated, account for the published per-minute limits on the plan row you are considering. Obtain current limits for any plan where they are not stated in the reviewed material.
- Template ownership: Check who can create, update, and approve templates, and whether the editor is suitable for the people who need it.
- Delivery and integration: Test how the output is retrieved or stored and whether the SDK, URL, integration, or publishing feature works for your exact destination.
- Failure handling: Exercise invalid input, unavailable assets, timeouts, and retry paths. The reviewed pages do not establish comparative failure behavior, so confirm it in documentation and in your own trial.
Common evaluation mistakes
Treating credits as interchangeable
Orshot explicitly counts a PDF page and a video second as one credit each, as well as an image. Templated’s reviewed pricing page lists monthly render-credit totals, but the material reviewed here does not establish the same per-output accounting. Ask for the accounting rule for the exact Templated render mix you plan to run.
Assuming a format list applies everywhere
A format named on a pricing or image API page may not settle availability for every endpoint or plan. Verify the intended call path and output before building downstream processing around it.
Taking vendor performance language as a comparison
Marketing statements do not supply a controlled head-to-head benchmark. Test your own templates and workload; do not project advertised performance or uptime language into a guarantee about your result.
Best Value
Buying for a monthly total while ignoring bursts
Monthly credits and requests per minute answer different questions. A job may fit a monthly allowance yet exceed a request-rate limit during a batch. For Templated, the reviewed plan rows list 60, 150, and 300 requests per minute; confirm the current limits and your burst needs before designing batch behavior.
