If you need a production screenshot endpoint, start with ScreenshotNeo: it removes common cookie banners, popups and chat widgets before capture, and failed or unusable captures are not billed. Cloudflare’s current product is called Browser Run (formerly Browser Rendering); its Quick Actions handle simple one-shot captures, while Browser Sessions are for scripted browser control. For visual change review across browsers and screen widths, a testing platform such as Percy is a different kind of tool.
Choose by job, not just by provider
A screenshot API returns an image or document from a rendered page. A visual testing platform organizes screenshots so teams can compare versions and review changes. Browser automation gives you more control over what happens before capture, but also makes you responsible for scripting the interaction.
| Need | Options to consider | What to evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| One request to render a URL or supplied HTML | ScreenshotNeo, Cloudflare Browser Run Quick Actions, Browserless Screenshot API | Input and output formats, page-load waits, full-page and element capture, integration fit, and success on your own pages |
| Custom interactions before capture | Cloudflare Browser Sessions or another managed/browser automation setup | Playwright, Puppeteer, CDP or other supported control, session lifecycle, authentication, and who operates the browser runtime |
| Visual regression review across browsers and widths | BrowserStack Percy | Browser and width matrix, diff/review workflow, screenshot counting, retention/history, and overage terms |
| Maximum control over browser and infrastructure | Self-managed Playwright or Puppeteer deployment | Browser versions, fonts, concurrency, isolation, queues, retries, observability, and maintenance; measure costs and performance in your environment |
Screenshot APIs and browser services
1. ScreenshotNeo: clean captures with transparent billing outcomes
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. Before capture, it accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be disabled. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status.
For AI-assisted workflows, its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients. Features also include full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, device presets and custom viewports, PDF settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, waits, request blocking, headers and cookies, geolocation, caching, signed links, async jobs, bulk capture, usage API and OpenAPI spec. Other screenshot APIs’ parameter names also work, which can simplify migration. Every feature is on every plan.
| Plan | Monthly shots | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 1,000 | $0; no card |
| Starter | 3,000 | $5 |
| Growth | 15,000 | $15 |
| Pro | 60,000 | $39 |
| Scale | 250,000 | $99 |
| Business | 1,000,000 | $249 |
Yearly billing gives two months free. These are the stated plan allowances and prices; confirm current terms before procurement.
2. Cloudflare Browser Run Quick Actions
Cloudflare’s current documentation calls the product Browser Run, formerly Browser Rendering. Cloudflare describes it as a way to control a headless browser programmatically for screenshots, PDFs and automated browser tasks (getting started documentation). Its screenshot endpoint accepts a URL or HTML and can be called through a REST API with a token or through a Workers Binding. The Snapshot API returns rendered HTML and a screenshot together, with options including viewport, full-page capture and navigation/loading controls. See the screenshot endpoint documentation and Snapshot API.
#1 Best Overall
Cloudflare recommends Quick Actions for simple screenshots, PDFs or scraping, and browser sessions for scripted automation. That makes Quick Actions a logical fit when you already use Cloudflare and want a direct capture path; account fit alone does not establish success rate or performance for your pages.

3. Browserless Screenshot API
Browserless documents a hosted POST /screenshot endpoint that accepts a URL or raw HTML and can return PNG, JPEG or WebP. Its documented controls include full-page capture, viewport size, device scale factor, clip regions, element selectors, navigation/loading behavior and scrollPage for triggering lazy-loaded content. The REST API overview describes its endpoints as browser tasks accessible through HTTP without managing browser infrastructure; the Screenshot API documentation gives the endpoint details.
Rank #2
- Intuitive interface of a conventional FTP client
- Easy and Reliable FTP Site Maintenance.
- FTP Automation and Synchronization
Browserless warns that blank screenshots, CAPTCHA pages or captures unlike a normal browser can indicate automation blocking. Its documented controls do not establish that it will render a particular site more accurately or reliably than Cloudflare; test representative pages and states, including authenticated pages if they are part of the workload.
When a visual testing service is the better alternative
BrowserStack Percy
Percy is designed for visual testing and review rather than simply returning a screenshot file. BrowserStack defines a screenshot as a rendering for an individual browser and responsive width, so one page rendered across several combinations consumes several screenshots even if the interface groups them as one snapshot.
Rank #3
BrowserStack’s current Percy free-plan documentation lists 5,000 monthly screenshots. It says paid plans include fixed screenshot quantities, with usage beyond those units treated as overage and charged at the applicable rate. These are vendor plan terms, not an independent benchmark; check the Percy billing documentation for current allowances and pricing before choosing a plan.

How to select and validate a production option
- Decide what success means. If you need an image or PDF from each request, compare screenshot APIs. If you need diffs and team review over browser/width combinations, evaluate Percy or another visual testing platform.
- List the states you actually capture. Include dynamic loading, lazy images, consent prompts, authenticated pages, and any interactions required to reach the desired state. A basic URL capture may not represent the real workflow.
- Test representative URLs and states. Check output completeness and whether automation blocking, CAPTCHA, blank content, timeout or authentication changes the result. Do not extrapolate from one page to all sites.
- Compare operational fit using your workload. Consider API shape, integration environment, capture options, volume, billing semantics, browser control and the effort of operating infrastructure. Available documentation does not establish a general winner for latency, uptime, fidelity or cost per successful capture.
- For self-managed automation, budget for operations. You control browser versions and deployment, but must plan for fonts, concurrency, isolation, queues, retries, observability and maintenance. No general cost or reliability advantage over hosted services is established; measure it in your own environment.
Or skip the browser setup
Make one GET request to capture a URL. The API returns a screenshot or PDF; the example saves the response as a WebP file. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details.
