Its downtown Los Angeles micro-amusement park could offer a place to exhibit work and test it with visitors through Beta Night. The announcement described an opportunity—not a software SDK, funding package, or guaranteed publishing deal—and the available evidence does not confirm that applications are open in 2026.
What “Park as a Platform” meant
Two Bit Circus presented its Los Angeles micro-amusement park as a physical development and exhibition venue for location-based entertainment (LBE): games and interactive experiences designed to be played in a shared, public setting. The April 23, 2019 announcement described a 38,000-square-foot park and a program intended to help developers adapt existing work or create new experiences for that environment. GamesBeat’s announcement coverage called the initiative “Park as a Platform.”
In practical terms, the park could serve as a place to build or refine an experience, show it to visitors, observe groups playing, and potentially reach an audience or revenue opportunity. That is different from a conventional developer platform: the announcement did not describe an SDK, API, or online publishing portal.
Why offer developers a venue?
Making a game is only part of bringing it into an arcade, attraction, or other public venue. Developers also need an appropriate physical space, compatible equipment, operational support, and a way to put the experience in front of real groups. Two Bit Circus framed its program as a response to that access gap: a venue could let developers see how people play together and whether an experience works outside a private test environment.

The concept was connected to the park’s wider mix of social entertainment. A 2018 GamesBeat preview described a venue combining arcade-style games, multiplayer VR, interactive theater and game shows, physical attractions, and food and beverage. That preview called the planned venue approximately 40,000 square feet; the later 2019 announcement used 38,000 square feet. Those are figures from separate reports, not a single reconciled measurement.
How the historical Beta Night submission worked
Two Bit Circus’s historical Beta Program page invited developers to submit a game or experience for review and possible testing by visitors. It said submissions were considered case by case, that not every applicant would receive a response, and that selected creators could exhibit their work in the park for free. Those statements describe the page’s historical offer, not a verified current policy.

The form sought practical information as well as a project pitch, including:
- Creator and company details, project name, contact information, and a short description.
- Project and company logos, trademark or copyright information, screenshots or product images, press links, social-media links, and keywords.
- Location, development and release status, and whether the creator could appear at the downtown Los Angeles venue.
- Space, power, and setup requirements, plus whether the creator could supply equipment and an operator.
The questions reveal the program’s venue-specific nature: selection involved more than judging a game concept. A project had to be considered in terms of how it could be installed, operated, and tested onsite.

What kinds of projects fit?
The historical creator page favored experiences that were multiplayer, social, interactive, engaging, and feasible to test at the Los Angeles venue. The four projects named in the launch announcement illustrate a wider range of play formats than VR alone:
- Death Squared, a cooperative puzzle game.
- Hidden in Plain Sight, a stealth-oriented party game.
- ClusterPuck 99, a competitive game with an air-hockey-like feel.
- Line Wobbler, an unusual dungeon crawler controlled through a physical interface.
Together, the examples suggest that the program’s interest was in shared play and distinctive interaction, not just a particular device category. They are launch examples, not a complete catalog of accepted projects.

How LBE changes the design problem
A game built for a home setup can assume players have time to learn its controls, access to familiar equipment, and a private environment. A venue experience has to work amid queues, noise, mixed-age groups, spectators, and frequent changes of player. That creates design and operating questions a developer should resolve early:
- Onboarding and session flow: Can a new group understand the goal and start quickly? Can the experience reset cleanly for the next group?
- Space and equipment: What floor area, power, networking, lighting, sound, controllers, or tracking does it need? Can the hardware tolerate repeated public use?
- Group dynamics: Does the game accommodate different skill levels? Is there something for waiting players and spectators to follow?
- Operations and recovery: Can venue staff launch, supervise, reset, or troubleshoot the experience without a developer present? What happens when a player leaves mid-session or hardware fails?
- Safety and access: Are movement, physical controls, and play instructions workable for the expected audience? Public play can expose accessibility, safety, privacy, and moderation concerns that private testing may miss.
- Repeatability: Does the experience stay engaging across repeat plays, and can it handle the pace of a public venue?
A successful test in one park would not by itself establish that a game will work in a different arcade, museum, mall, or attraction; each venue has its own audience and operating conditions.

What the opportunity did—and did not—promise
The 2019 announcement presented venue access, public testing, exhibition, and possible exposure or revenue as potential benefits. The historical page said selected creators could exhibit for free. Neither source establishes a standard funding package, guaranteed placement, minimum run, or guaranteed payment.
The available public material also does not specify licensing or IP ownership, revenue share, who would pay for adaptation and maintenance, insurance or liability arrangements, data handling, or the duration of a test. Developers evaluating a comparable venue offer should get those terms in writing and distinguish a one-night audience test from a continuing commercial installation. Free exhibition, as stated on the historical page, does not establish that adaptation, equipment, travel, staffing, or ongoing support would also be free.
Is the program still open?
Status checked August 18, 2026: The historical Beta Program page remains accessible, but Two Bit Circus’s current homepage describes the company as an “Entertainment Incubator and Exhibitor” without mentioning Park as a Platform, Beta Night, or an active developer-submission program. The homepage’s broader description is consistent with an incubator-and-showcase identity, but it does not confirm that the 2019 program continues. Treat Park as a Platform as a historical announcement unless Two Bit Circus confirms current application availability directly.
