But it is not a major upgrade to the screen, battery capacity or headline rear-camera hardware. Both have 6.7-inch AMOLED displays, 7,000mAh batteries and 25W charging. In 2026, buy either only after checking the exact regional model, software status and battery condition; choose the M51 if it is notably cheaper and in good shape.

Samsung’s M62 launch information emphasizes its Exynos 9825, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, 7,000mAh battery and 6.7-inch display. The M51 launch announcement centered on its battery, display and 64MP quad-camera system. The rear-camera figures and launch Android versions are listed in this model comparison.
Performance and gaming are the M62’s main advantages
The Exynos 9825 gives the M62 a significant hardware advantage over the M51’s Snapdragon 730G. Samsung introduced the M62 with the Exynos 9825, while its M-series catalog identifies the M51’s Snapdragon platform in the M51 product material. The M62 should have more headroom for app switching, demanding websites, editing, emulation and large games.
That makes the M62 the sensible choice if performance is a priority, but it does not guarantee a particular frame rate or a better experience in every game. Heat, game optimization, software condition and battery health influence sustained performance. The Exynos 9825 was a former flagship-class chipset, not current flagship hardware in 2026.

The M51 remains suitable for messaging, streaming, browsing, navigation, social apps and casual games. Its Snapdragon 730G is less powerful, but light everyday use does not necessarily require the M62’s extra processing capability.
Battery capacity and charging are effectively a tie
Both phones have a rated 7,000mAh battery and support 25W wired charging, so the M62 is not a battery-capacity upgrade. Samsung said the M51’s supplied 25W charger could recharge its battery in under two hours under the company’s stated conditions; that is not a guarantee for a used device or a different charger. Samsung lists the same battery capacity and charging rate for the M62 in its launch specifications.
Actual endurance depends on battery wear, brightness, signal strength, gaming and background activity. A faster processor does not by itself mean longer battery life. For a used unit, inspect for swelling, unusual heat while charging, abrupt percentage drops, unexpected shutdowns and interrupted charging; ask whether any replacement battery is genuine or from a reputable repairer.
The displays are similar, not a reason to pay extra
Both models have a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus-class panel. Samsung identifies the M62 screen as FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus in its product announcement, and describes the M51’s 6.7-inch screen as sAMOLED Plus in its launch announcement. Expect the deep blacks and contrast associated with AMOLED, but do not assume the newer model has a better panel.

On an older or refurbished phone, check for image retention or burn-in, dead pixels and uneven brightness. Replacement screens may not match the original panel’s quality.

Camera hardware is broadly comparable
The listed rear-camera layout is the same on both: a 64MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide, 5MP macro and 5MP depth camera. That makes the M62 a poor choice if the sole reason to upgrade is a promised camera improvement. Similar specifications do not prove identical sensors or identical results: image processing, firmware and camera-app versions can affect HDR, night scenes, focus and video.
Without a controlled side-by-side test, neither phone can be declared the clear camera winner. The M51’s launch coverage also highlighted Samsung’s Single Take feature, but feature availability and behavior may depend on software and region.
Software history is not a guarantee of support in 2026
The M62 launched with Android 11 and the M51 with Android 10, giving the M62 a newer starting point. Samsung’s update record for model SM-M515F lists Android version S, or Android 12, for the M51: Samsung’s M51 update page. Samsung also provides an Android 13 user manual for the regional SM-M625F family, but that document does not establish that every M62 variant received that update or continues to receive security patches: Samsung’s M62 support page.

Do not assume either phone remains supported just because it has documentation for a later Android version.

Both phones were sold in selected markets, and regional variants can differ. The retail name alone does not establish the bands, SIM setup, NFC, warranty or software schedule for a particular unit. Samsung’s M62 model support page and M51 product page illustrate the model-specific identifiers buyers should compare with the phone and listing.

- Confirm the full model number in the phone’s settings and on the seller’s listing.
- Check that its LTE bands and carrier status match your network.
- Verify NFC, SIM configuration, storage and any microSD support for that exact variant.
- Confirm warranty coverage, charger compatibility and return terms in your country.
- Inspect the screen, charging port, fingerprint reader and battery condition in person where possible.
Which one should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy M62 for speed
Buy the M62 if you use demanding apps, play heavier games, multitask frequently or want the commonly highlighted 8GB/256GB configuration. It is the stronger device when both phones are similarly priced and in comparable condition.
Choose the Galaxy M51 for a lower-cost, lighter workload
The M51 makes sense if it is substantially cheaper, its battery and screen are healthy, and your use is mainly streaming, browsing, messaging and casual apps. It retains the same headline battery capacity and a very similar display and rear-camera arrangement.

Do not buy either on specifications alone
Skip a unit with a swollen battery, overheating, screen burn-in, damaged charging port, carrier lock or unclear model identity. If you need 5G, dependable current security updates, a long warranty or high-refresh gaming, these older 4G phones are a poor fit. Compare their total price and repair risk with newer supported phones in your local market; no universal current price applies across regions or used-device conditions.
Should an M51 owner upgrade to the M62?
Upgrade if the M51’s performance is a real problem, you want more gaming headroom, or you need the M62’s available storage configuration and can find a healthy unit at a reasonable price. Do not upgrade solely for battery capacity, screen size, 25W charging or the rear-camera headline specifications: those are broadly similar. A phone with a worn battery or unsupported firmware is not a compelling upgrade regardless of its model number.
