Short answer: the names “B4000” and “B61000” are probably shorthand or errors. Philips documentation identifies the entry model as TAB4000, while TP Vision’s 2025 announcement consistently names B6100, not B61000. TAB4000 is a basic 2.0 bar; B6100, B8200 and B8500 are a newer range aimed at different room sizes and installation constraints.
Choose TAB4000 for a simple stereo upgrade, B6100 for a compact 2.1 system, B8200 when clearance below the TV is extremely tight, and B8500 for a larger 5.1 setup with explicitly documented 4K/120Hz passthrough.
First, correct the model names
| Search term | Most likely official name | Confidence and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Philips B4000 | Philips TAB4000 | High. Philips’ product sheet uses TAB4000. |
| Philips B61000 | Philips B6100 | Very high. TP Vision’s official announcement uses B6100 throughout. |
| Philips B8200 | B8200, possibly sold as TAB8200 with a regional suffix | High. Check the complete country-specific model code. |
| Philips B8500 | B8500 | High. Retail packaging may add a regional suffix. |
Search for “B6100” rather than “B61000” when looking for manuals or retailers. For “B4000,” also search “TAB4000.” Philips products can carry suffixes such as /10, /37 or /98; plugs, packaging, availability and specifications can vary by country.
The B6100, B8200 and B8500 were announced on January 28, 2025, with announced launch months of May, August and September 2025 respectively. Those dates do not prove current stock worldwide in 2026. Source: TP Vision’s 2025 announcement.

Philips TAB4000: the simple stereo upgrade
TAB4000 is a 2.0 entry-level soundbar. Its 30 W RMS rating (60 W maximum) and HDMI-ARC connection are intended to improve basic television sound without adding a separate bass unit. Bluetooth 5.4 is included.
Best for
- Small rooms and televisions with weak built-in speakers.
- Buyers who want straightforward setup and no subwoofer.
- Listeners who do not need Dolby Atmos, eARC or HDMI 2.1 video features.
Important limitation
TAB4000 is not a like-for-like rival to the B6100, B8200 or B8500. Those models add wireless subwoofers and substantially higher rated output; B8500 also adds a 5.1 layout.

Philips B6100: compact 2.1 performance
The B6100 is 600 mm wide, making it the physically smallest of the three B-series bars. TP Vision rates it at 200 W RMS and supplies a 120 W wireless subwoofer. Two 2.25-inch soundbar drivers support Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and DTS Virtual:X, with HDMI 2.1 eARC and Bluetooth 5.4 with LE Audio compatibility.

Best for
- Televisions roughly in the 48–55-inch class.
- Smaller living rooms needing more bass than a 2.0 bar provides.
- Buyers who want Atmos and eARC without a 900 mm soundbar.
The 600 mm width is a useful proportion, not a requirement to match the TV exactly. Confirm that your furniture leaves room for a 65 mm-high, 105 mm-deep bar.
Philips B8200: choose it for clearance, not headline power
The B8200’s defining specification is its unusually thin chassis: 811 mm wide, just 37 mm high and 42 mm deep. It uses separate tweeters and racetrack full-range drivers in each channel, a wireless twin-driver subwoofer, Dolby Atmos, DTS Virtual:X, HDMI 2.1 eARC and Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio.

Why the form factor matters
A 37 mm bar can fit beneath televisions with a low central pedestal or very little gap between the furniture and the screen. Measure the clearance at the lowest point, and check the TV’s infrared receiver and lower-edge visibility rather than relying on height alone.
A published subwoofer discrepancy
TP Vision’s English announcement describes approximately 120 W for the B8200 subwoofer, while Philips Germany’s announcement describes 100 W. Treat neither figure as universal: verify the exact regional specification sheet or manual for the unit you intend to buy. The German announcement is at Philips Germany.
Its 160 W RMS system rating is lower than the B6100’s 200 W and B8500’s 300 W, so this is primarily an installation-led choice.

Philips B8500: the largest and most capable B-series option
B8500 combines a 900 mm-wide, 65 mm-high bar with a 150 W wireless subwoofer using an 8-inch driver. It is a 5.1 system rated at 300 W RMS. The bar has left, right and center 2.25-inch drivers plus two side-firing 2-inch channels.
Features that set it apart
- 5.1-channel layout rather than 2.1.
- Explicitly stated 4K/120Hz video passthrough.
- Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and DTS Virtual:X.
- Subwoofer designed for horizontal or vertical placement.
B8500 suits a larger television and furniture wide enough for 900 mm. It is a poor fit where the screen is low, the cabinet is narrow or a small-room budget system is the priority.

Atmos compatibility is not a guarantee of overhead cinema sound
B6100, B8200 and B8500 are described as Dolby Atmos-compatible. That means they can handle supported Atmos content through an appropriate source and connection; it does not establish independent evidence of convincing height effects in every room. Ceiling height, seating position, room reflections, source settings and the bar’s virtualization all matter. None should be assumed equivalent to a receiver with dedicated 5.1.2 or 7.1.4 speakers.
Best Value
- SIMPLY BETTER TV SOUND: Experience elevated sound with 2.1 channels with subwoofer & immersive audio tech. Compact wireless subwoofer enriches effects & music. Tailor your sound with 4 EQ modes. Activate Dialogue Enhancement for clearer voices
- DTS Virtual:X: Transforms your TV sound, bringing you a virtual 3D sound experience no matter what's on screen! You don't need extra speakers, and it works in any room: turn it on via the soundbar's remote control, or the Philips Home Entertainment app
- DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS: Enjoy a front-row seat to all the dramas you watch and play. This Dolby Digital Plus-compatible soundbar gives you a surround-sound experience. You'll hear, and feel, the difference
- HDMI ARC and Philips EasyLINK: Adjust the volume on your soundbar using your TV remote. If you have a Philips Ambilight TV, the EasyLINK function lets you use the remote to switch between the soundbar's preset EQ modes, adjust bass and treble—and more
- EASY CONNECTIONS: Compatibility with Bluetooth LE Audio enables a steadier connection, better sound, and less lag. You can also connect audio sources to the soundbar via audio-in, USB, or optical input
eARC and 4K/120Hz are different capabilities
eARC concerns high-bandwidth audio return from the TV. TP Vision specifically states 4K/120Hz passthrough for B8500; do not extend that video claim automatically to B6100 or B8200. A console connected to the TV may rely on the TV passing audio correctly over eARC, while a console connected through the soundbar depends on that model’s video-passthrough support and the exact HDR and VRR formats.
If sound is missing or reduced to stereo, check that eARC is enabled, the TV output is set to passthrough or bitstream rather than PCM where appropriate, the cable and HDMI port support the required mode, and the source is connected to the intended port. Exact menu names vary by television and regional firmware.
Bluetooth version is not a sound-quality ranking
B6100 and B8500 list Bluetooth 5.4, B8200 lists Bluetooth 5.3, and TAB4000 lists Bluetooth 5.4. Codec support, latency and source-device compatibility usually matter more than the version number. LE Audio compatibility also requires a compatible source path.
Physical-fit checklist before buying
- Measure the furniture’s usable width.
- Measure vertical clearance from the furniture to the screen’s bottom edge.
- Check whether a central TV stand overlaps the bar’s footprint or depth.
- Make sure the bar will not hide the TV’s infrared receiver.
- Measure a separate location for the subwoofer; wireless means wireless audio, not battery operation.
- Plan mains power and cable routes for both units.
- Leave practical space around the subwoofer’s driver and ports.
- Confirm horizontal or vertical subwoofer placement in the manual for your regional model.
Which Philips soundbar should you buy?
| Your priority | Best match | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest complexity and basic dialogue improvement | TAB4000 | 2.0 design, HDMI-ARC and no separate subwoofer. |
| Compact bar with wireless bass | B6100 | 600 mm width, 2.1 channels and 200 W RMS rating. |
| Very low TV clearance or central stand | B8200 | 37 mm height and 42 mm depth. |
| Large TV, stronger bass and 4K/120Hz passthrough | B8500 | 5.1 channels, 300 W RMS, 8-inch subwoofer and stated passthrough support. |
