You can copy Nintendo Switch screenshots and video captures to a computer using USB or a microSD card. Game saves are different: Nintendo does not provide a general way to copy them to a PC as usable files. Move saves between consoles or, for compatible games, use Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud.
Choose the right method for the data you want

Copy screenshots and videos over USB
Use a USB cable that supports data transfer, not just charging. Connect the console directly to the computer where possible, and make sure the computer has room for the files. Nintendo notes that the computer-side steps can vary by computer.
Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED
- On the console, open System Settings → Data Management → Manage Screenshots and Videos → Copy to a Computer via USB Connection.
- Connect the console directly to the computer with a data-capable USB cable.
- When the computer detects the console, use its file browser to select and copy the screenshots and videos into a folder on the computer.
- Finish the transfer and safely disconnect the console.

Nintendo Switch 2
- Open System Settings → Data Management → Manage Screenshots and Videos → Copy to PC over USB.
- Connect a data-capable cable directly to the Switch 2’s USB-C port.
- Select the captures to copy and use the computer’s media/file interface to save them.
- Safely disconnect when the copy is complete.
Switch 2 requires a computer operating system with Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) support. Nintendo says the dock’s USB ports do not support this feature, so connect to the console itself. See Nintendo’s Switch 2 USB transfer instructions.

Copy captures from a microSD card
This method is useful for a large batch of captures or when USB transfer does not work. You need a computer card slot or a compatible microSD card reader.
- Power off the console completely before removing the card.
- Insert the card into the computer or card reader.
- Open the card in File Explorer, Finder, or the computer’s file manager. Capture files are generally in
Nintendo/Album/, arranged in subfolders. - Copy the album folder or the relevant files to a folder on the computer. Copy rather than move, and leave the card’s folder structure unchanged.
- Check that the copied files open before changing or reformatting the card, then safely eject it.
For Nintendo Switch card migration, Nintendo instructs users to copy the complete contents and cautions that the procedure may not work correctly in non-Windows environments such as Mac. See Nintendo’s microSD card transfer instructions. Treat the original card as the untouched source until you have verified your copy.

Replacing a card
When moving to a larger card on a supported Switch model, follow Nintendo’s full-card procedure: copy the entire original card to a temporary computer folder, prepare the new card as instructed by Nintendo or the console, then copy the complete folder structure onto it. Do not copy selected game folders only or erase the old card before confirming the new one works. Switch 2 uses microSD Express cards; do not assume an ordinary microSD card is interchangeable. Save data is managed on the console and through Nintendo’s supported console-transfer and cloud systems; copying the card’s files to a computer does not produce a usable save backup.

Transfer a save directly to another console
This is a move, not a duplicate: Nintendo says the sent save is deleted from the source console. Both consoles need internet access, must be nearby, and the relevant users need the same Nintendo Account linked. Nintendo Switch Online is not required.
- On the source console, open System Settings → Data Management → Transfer Your Save Data → Send Save Data to Another Console.
- Choose the target system type, user, and game save, then select Next and OK.
- On the target console, open System Settings → Data Management → Transfer Your Save Data → Receive Save Data and confirm.
If the target already has a save for that game, the transfer can overwrite it, and Nintendo warns that the overwrite cannot be undone. Read Nintendo’s nearby save-transfer instructions before confirming.

Use Save Data Cloud for compatible games
An active Nintendo Switch Online membership is required, and not every game supports cloud backup. For a supported game, highlight it on the HOME Menu, press + or −, choose Save Data Cloud and the user, then select Back Up Save Data on the source console. On the target, use Download Save Data. Check the game’s support status rather than assuming cloud backup is available. Downloading a backup replaces the target console’s existing save for that game, and the overwritten save cannot be recovered. The game’s shared island data has its own island-transfer process; an ordinary user or save transfer alone may not move what you expect. Use Nintendo’s user and save transfer guidance to find the applicable process.

What happens to games on the card?
Copying a Switch microSD card to a computer is not a way to make portable PC game files or playable installs for another Switch. Nintendo warns that software downloaded to a card for one console will not become playable on another simply by inserting or copying that card. Redownload digital software through Nintendo eShop with the account that owns it; Nintendo’s digital game and account guidance explains console-to-console options.
Troubleshoot a computer that does not see the console
- Check that the correct USB transfer option is open on the console.
- Try a known data-capable cable. A charge-only cable can power the console without carrying files.
- Connect directly to the computer and console rather than relying on an unverified hub or, for Switch 2, the dock.
- Try a different computer USB port, then restart both devices and reconnect.
- For Switch 2, check that the computer supports MTP. MTP handling varies by operating system; Nintendo does not guarantee third-party MTP software.
- If USB still fails, power off and use the microSD-card method. If a computer prompts you to format the original card, cancel rather than formatting it.
When a capture card is the right tool
A capture card records live HDMI gameplay from a compatible docked Switch; it does not copy saves or replace the USB/microSD method for existing screenshots and clips. Switch Lite does not provide the ordinary docked HDMI output assumed by most capture-card setups, so this is not a universal option for every model.
Can you copy files from a computer back to the Switch?
Nintendo documents the USB capture workflow as copying screenshots and videos from the console to a computer. Treat the computer as a backup destination, not a general-purpose media manager for restoring arbitrary images or videos to the Switch album; Nintendo does not document a general PC-to-console media-import workflow.
