To stop Windows Feedback app feedback questions on managed PCs, create an Intune Windows 10 and later Settings Catalog profile, then set Experience > Do not show feedback notifications to Feedback notifications are disabled. This is a device-scoped policy; it does not turn off Windows notifications generally.

What the setting controls

The policy suppresses feedback questions delivered through the Windows Feedback app. When configured to disable feedback notifications, it prevents those prompts from appearing. It does not block every way a person could submit feedback.

It is not a general notification switch. It does not disable Windows toast notifications, Microsoft Store or Windows Security alerts, Windows Update notifications, Edge website notifications, or alerts from other applications. It also does not turn off diagnostic-data collection as a whole. For example, Windows notification-access controls are separate policies documented in Microsoft’s Privacy Policy CSP.

Policy scope, values, and support

Microsoft documents this as a device-scoped Experience Policy CSP setting. Its URI is ./Device/Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/Experience/DoNotShowFeedbackNotifications. The setting is available for Windows 10 version 1607 and later, with the supported editions listed in Microsoft’s Experience Policy CSP documentation, including Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions. Check that documentation for the current support details for the Windows version and edition you manage.

Policy value Effect
1 Feedback notifications are disabled.
0 Feedback notifications are not centrally disabled; behavior may depend on Group Policy or local configuration.

The administrative wording can be confusing: the policy should be configured to the option that says notifications are disabled. The desired CSP value is 1. The corresponding Group Policy is under Computer Configuration > Windows Components > Data Collection and Preview Builds; Microsoft lists the registry value as DoNotShowFeedbackNotifications under SoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsDataCollection.

Before creating the Intune profile

  • Confirm the target computers are enrolled in Intune and run a supported Windows edition and version.
  • Use an account with permission to create and assign configuration profiles.
  • Plan a device-group assignment, since this is a device-scoped setting.
  • Check for an existing Group Policy, Intune profile, security baseline, custom OMA-URI, or other management tool that configures the same policy.
  • Consider a pilot group and exceptions for teams that rely on Windows feedback prompts.

The Settings Catalog is the straightforward option when the setting is available there. Microsoft describes it as the way to find and configure specific device settings; see the Intune Settings Catalog documentation.

  • 256 GB SSD of storage.

Create the Settings Catalog profile

  1. In the Microsoft Intune admin center, open Devices and go to the area for Windows configuration profiles. Create a new profile.
  2. Choose Windows 10 and later as the platform and Settings catalog as the profile type.
  3. Give the profile a clear name, such as Windows - Disable Feedback Notifications. A useful description is: Disables feedback-question notifications from the Windows Feedback app on assigned Windows devices.
  4. Under Configuration settings, select Add settings. Search for Do not show feedback notifications, open the Experience category, and select the setting.
  5. Configure it as Feedback notifications are disabled. Do not leave it unconfigured or select the option that says notifications are not disabled.
  6. Configure scope tags if your delegated administration model uses them; otherwise, retain the default.
  7. Assign the profile to the intended device group. Start with a pilot group if you need to validate the effect before a wider rollout.
  8. Review the platform, profile type, selected Experience setting, assignments, and exclusions, then create the profile.

Portal labels can change. If the current portal presents a different route to profile creation, keep the platform, profile type, category, setting, and configured state above as the key checks.

Monitor deployment and verify the client

In Intune, review the profile’s device and per-setting status. A device may show Succeeded, Pending, Error, Conflict, or Not applicable. A manual device sync can help during testing; otherwise, policy arrives during normal check-in. HTMD’s configuration walkthrough reports that application can take up to eight hours, but that is operational guidance, not a guaranteed service-level deadline. See the HTMD walkthrough.

For client-side troubleshooting, inspect the Device Management event log at Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Device Management > Enterprise Diagnostic Provider > Admin. HTMD points to events 813 and 814 as useful policy-processing evidence. Their presence and contents can vary, so use them alongside Intune’s status rather than treating them as universal proof.

For deeper validation, inspect PolicyManager state on the device. The CIS benchmark’s audit locations include HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftPolicyManagercurrentdeviceExperience:DoNotShowFeedbackNotifications_WinningProvider and, for the applicable provider GUID, HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftPolicyManagerProviders{GUID}DefaultDeviceExperience:DoNotShowFeedbackNotifications. The expected configured value is 1. The benchmark is secondary guidance; Microsoft’s CSP documentation defines the policy behavior. The benchmark is available from the CIS Microsoft Intune for Windows 10 benchmark page.

Use a custom OMA-URI if the catalog entry is unavailable

If the Settings Catalog entry is not visible, a custom Windows configuration profile can configure the CSP directly. Confirm the current URI and platform support in Microsoft’s Experience Policy CSP documentation before deploying.

Custom profile field Value
Name Disable Feedback Notifications
Description Disables Windows Feedback app feedback notifications
OMA-URI ./Device/Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/Experience/DoNotShowFeedbackNotifications
Data type Integer
Value 1

Prefer the Settings Catalog when it is available: it is easier for administrators to discover and maintain. A custom OMA-URI requires exact manual entry and can conflict with a later catalog profile that configures the same policy.

Troubleshoot unexpected results

Feedback questions still appear

  • Confirm the intended device received the profile and has checked in.
  • Verify the setting is explicitly configured as Feedback notifications are disabled.
  • Check for exclusions, a reported conflict, or another management authority setting the same policy.
  • Make sure the prompt is actually from the Windows Feedback app rather than another application or service.
  • If the policy state is correct but the prompt persists, review relevant policy-processing events and allow for a subsequent sync. Consider restarting the affected app or device if appropriate to your deployment.

The profile reports Not applicable

Check the Windows edition and version, enrollment state, target object, and device scope. The Microsoft CSP page lists supported editions and minimum OS requirements.

The catalog setting cannot be found

Confirm that the profile uses the Windows 10 and later platform and Settings catalog type, then search the exact setting name under Experience. Portal indexing or labels may change. If still unavailable, use the custom OMA-URI only after confirming the current CSP details.

Intune reports a conflict

Look for another Settings Catalog profile, custom OMA-URI profile, domain Group Policy, security baseline, or third-party management product configuring the same setting. Where possible, designate one authoritative source for it.

Decide whether to apply it broadly

Suppressing feedback questions can reduce interruptions and create consistent behavior on shared or tightly controlled devices. It can also reduce a channel through which users might provide feedback. Consider leaving exceptions for preview testing, endpoint engineering, help-desk, or user-experience research teams if they rely on those prompts.

The CIS benchmark lists this setting as a Level 1 recommendation, but its rationale should be weighed against your organization’s feedback practices and policy goals. Do not treat enabling this setting as a substitute for diagnostic-data controls or for policies governing other notification types. Microsoft’s Settings Catalog and Windows policy documentation provides further context on Windows policy configuration.
