Microsoft Edge has no documented, general-purpose setting for hiding or reordering individual commands in the webpage right-click menu. You can often remove clutter added by an extension by changing that extension’s settings or disabling it, but Edge’s own commands are not individually editable through a normal user-facing menu editor.

Which right-click menu are we talking about?

This is the menu that appears when you right-click a webpage, selected text, link, image, video, or form field in the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser. It is not Windows 11 File Explorer’s context menu, Edge’s top-right Settings and more menu, the Extensions toolbar menu, or a context menu inside a separate app built with WebView2.

Those distinctions matter: changing Windows’ File Explorer menu does not change Edge’s webpage menu. Reports about Windows context-menu redesigns concern Windows, not a user editor for Edge. Windows Central’s coverage of Windows 11 context menus addresses that separate system interface.

What can you remove?

Where an item comes from Can you usually remove it individually? What to do
Edge’s built-in webpage commands No general per-command control is documented. Use another route to the feature, if available, or send Microsoft feedback.
An installed extension Sometimes, if the extension has its own setting. Otherwise, disable or remove the extension. Check its details and options, then isolate it by turning extensions off and back on one at a time.
A website’s custom menu or right-click behavior Not through a general Edge menu setting. Compare the same action on other websites; the behavior may be specific to that site.
A WebView2 app Controlled by the app developer, not by Edge browser settings. Contact the developer of the Windows app.
Windows File Explorer Separate from Edge. Use Windows-specific settings or guidance; it will not edit Edge’s browser menu.

Edge extensions can add menu entries through the Edge extensions contextMenus API. That developer capability does not give users a universal switch for removing Edge’s built-in commands or another extension’s individual entries.

Find out whether an extension is responsible

Extension isolation is the most useful supported cleanup method. Save any work in progress first: disabling an extension can temporarily turn off its other features too.

  1. In Edge, open edge://extensions. You can also use the supported menu path: Settings and more (…) > Extensions > Manage extensions.
  2. Turn off nonessential extensions using the toggle beside each one. For a clearer test, disable all extensions you can safely do without.
  3. Restart Edge, then test the right-click menu on the same page and target type as before.
  4. If the unwanted entry is gone, turn extensions back on one at a time and repeat the test until the entry returns.
  5. For the extension that appears responsible, open Details and check for an options or settings page. Look for a control related to the context menu, right-click menu, or browser integration; not every extension offers one.
  6. If there is no selective setting and you do not want the extension’s menu command, turn it off or remove it. Microsoft’s instructions are at Add, turn off, or remove extensions in Microsoft Edge.

Removing an extension may also remove features you rely on, such as password-manager integration, translation, download tools, image utilities, or accessibility functions. Try changing the extension’s own setting or disabling it before removing it permanently. Microsoft documents extension toggles and site-access controls in its Edge extensions FAQ.

Why the menu changes when you right-click

Edge’s webpage menu is context-sensitive, so different contents can produce different commands. A link, selected text, image, video, editable field, spelling error, and blank page area do not necessarily expose the same actions. DevTools, for example, can be opened by right-clicking an item and choosing Inspect, as described in Microsoft’s DevTools overview.

A website can also intercept a right-click and display its own menu or suppress the browser’s usual one. To narrow down the cause, compare a blank area, selected text, an image, and a link on at least two unrelated sites. If the behavior occurs on just one site, it is not evidence by itself that Edge’s general menu is malfunctioning.

InPrivate testing can help, but it is not conclusive if an extension has been explicitly allowed to run in InPrivate. A new Edge profile is another comparison. On a work- or school-managed device, policies may affect which extensions or settings you can change.

What Edge does not currently let you do

As of August 18, 2026, Microsoft’s Q&A guidance says Edge has no option to remove context-menu items. Its consumer support guidance documents managing extensions, but does not document a general webpage-menu editor for hiding or reordering Edge’s own commands. The practical conclusion is that there is no supported, normal settings page for selectively editing every built-in item; that is not a claim that such a feature could never be added. See Microsoft’s answer about customizing the context menu.

Amazon Basics 3-Button USB Wired Mouse with Responsive Tracking, Plug & Play, Compatible with Windows and Mac, Black
  • Computer mouse for easily navigating a computer interface; click, scroll, and more
  • USB-A wired connection; if existing device only supports USB-C, an additional adapter will be required
  • High-definition (1000 dpi) optical tracking ensures responsive cursor control for precise tracking and easy text selection
  • 3 buttons offer effortless fingertip control
  • Plug-and-go ready for instant use
  • There is no verified general-purpose Customize context menu page for hiding, reordering, or disabling individual built-in webpage commands.
  • Turning off an extension may remove its contribution, but it does not edit Edge’s built-in menu.
  • Changing Windows 11 File Explorer’s context menu does not change Edge’s webpage menu.
  • Registry edits, old Chromium flags, and instructions for legacy Edge are not dependable general fixes for the current Edge browser menu. Avoid treating them as supported remedies.

Third-party tools promoted as context-menu cleaners deserve caution. An extension may add its own entry, require broad permissions, work only on certain sites or target types, or stop working after a browser update. Its ability to manage extension-added entries does not establish that it can remove Edge-owned commands. Unless a tool has been verified for the Edge version and behavior you need, it is not a reliable general fix.

Why a built-in editor would be better than deleting features

A crowded menu is a reasonable usability complaint, but different people need different commands. A developer may use Inspect; someone else may rely on translation, accessibility, image, or search features. Removing a command for everyone is not the same as letting each user choose.

When the battery level is below 10%, the light flashes red until the mouse is completely out of power.
  • 【Click to Wake】With smart sleep mode, it saves power by standby after 10 inactive minutes, just 2-3 clicks to wake. This efficient design delivers 3x longer battery life than motion-wake mice. Engineered for durability, its buttons and scroll wheel are tested for 10 million clicks, ensuring long-term reliability and consistent performance.

A useful design would let people show or hide individual commands, reorder frequent actions, group less-used items, and restore defaults. It should also distinguish Edge commands from extension-provided entries so users can see what they are changing. A shorter menu may be easier to scan, but the available evidence does not establish a universal performance gain from shortening Edge’s webpage menu.

Send Microsoft actionable feedback

Microsoft’s Q&A guidance points users to Settings and more (…) > Help and feedback > Send feedback. A report is more useful when it describes the behavior and asks for a specific control rather than only saying the menu is too long.

  • Include your Edge version and build, operating system, and whether the device is managed by work or school.
  • List the exact menu entries you want to hide or move, and say whether you right-clicked a page, link, image, selection, or input field.
  • Say whether the same behavior occurs in a new profile or InPrivate, and whether it remains with extensions disabled.
  • Attach a screenshot or short recording if it helps show the issue.
  • Request the control you actually need: per-item visibility, reordering, grouping, or a restore-defaults option.

The Edge Insider Community feature request and an older community discussion about removing menu items show that users have raised this concern before; community posts are requests, not confirmation that Microsoft has added a setting.

When the menu belongs to another app

If you are using an application that embeds WebView2 rather than the Edge browser itself, its developer has a different set of controls. Microsoft documents how a host app can handle its menu through WebView2 context-menu guidance and the CoreWebView2ContextMenuRequested event reference. These APIs are for app developers; they are not a hidden customization setting for ordinary Edge users.
