Kurz gesagt: nur teilweise. Total Adblock bietet grundlegende Werbeblocker-Funktionen kostenlos an. Der vollständige Funktionsumfang ist jedoch Premium und kostet ein Abo. Eine siebentägige Premium-Testphase kann je nach Anmeldeweg und Bedingungen in ein kostenpflichtiges, automatisch verlängertes Abonnement übergehen.
Was ist bei Total Adblock kostenlos?
Die Browser-Erweiterung lässt sich kostenlos installieren. Laut den Einträgen im Chrome Web Store und im Microsoft Edge Add-ons Store bleiben grundlegende Werbeblocker-Funktionen auch nach einer Testphase kostenlos nutzbar. Das ist aber nicht dasselbe wie vollständiger Schutz vor Werbung und Trackern auf allen Websites und Geräten.
Der Anbieter sagt, dass nicht alle Anzeigen und Tracking-Skripte auf jeder Website blockiert werden. Welche Funktionen greifen, hängt unter anderem von Browser, Gerät und Inhalt ab. Die offizielle Preisseite verlangt für den vollen Zugriff ein Abonnement.

Kann die siebentägige Testphase kostenpflichtig werden?
Ja, unter bestimmten Bedingungen. Im Chrome Web Store heißt es, dass für die dortige kostenlose Testversion keine persönlichen Zahlungsdaten erforderlich sind. Die allgemeinen Nutzungsbedingungen sehen dagegen vor, dass bei manchen Testangeboten Zahlungsdaten hinterlegt werden können. Wird eine solche Testphase nicht rechtzeitig beendet, kann sie automatisch in den bei der Anmeldung ausgewählten kostenpflichtigen Tarif übergehen.
Laut den Bedingungen muss die Kündigung bei hinterlegten Zahlungsdaten mindestens 24 Stunden vor Ende der Testphase erfolgen. Das gilt nicht pauschal für jede Installation: Website, Browser-Store und App-Plattform können unterschiedliche Abläufe und Bedingungen haben. Prüfen Sie beim Abschluss, ob Zahlungsdaten verlangt werden, wann die Testphase endet, welcher Preis danach gilt und wo gekündigt werden muss.

Was kostet das Abo nach der Testphase?
Es gibt keinen einzelnen Preis, der sich sicher auf alle Länder, Plattformen, Laufzeiten und Angebote übertragen lässt. Total Adblock bietet verschiedene Laufzeiten an, darunter monatliche, vierteljährliche, halbjährliche und jährliche Abos. Aktionspreise können laut der Hilfe zu Aktionspreisen nur für den ersten Abrechnungszeitraum gelten; danach kann zum regulären Preis verlängert werden.
Die Abos verlängern sich automatisch, sofern sie nicht gekündigt werden. Kontrollieren Sie deshalb vor dem Bezahlen den Preis für den ersten Zeitraum, die Verlängerungssumme, den Verlängerungszeitpunkt und die Kündigungsbedingungen im Checkout. Der Anbieter gibt an, dass der Verlängerungspreis auch in der Bestätigungs-E-Mail und im Online-Portal angezeigt werden soll.

So kündigen Sie Total Adblock
- Melden Sie sich beim Total-Adblock-Online-Portal an.
- Öffnen Sie „Meine Abonnements“ und wählen Sie das betreffende Abo aus.
- Deaktivieren Sie die automatische Verlängerung beziehungsweise kündigen Sie das Abo.
- Speichern Sie die Kündigungsbestätigung und prüfen Sie, ob das nächste Verlängerungsdatum entfernt oder als beendet angezeigt wird.
Haben Sie das Abo über Apple oder Google abgeschlossen, prüfen Sie stattdessen die Abonnements des jeweiligen Kontos. Eine Deinstallation der Erweiterung oder App beendet ein Abo nicht automatisch. Total weist zudem darauf hin, dass Abonnements für Total Adblock, TotalAV und Total VPN auch bei gemeinsamer Anmeldung separat verwaltet werden können. Prüfen Sie also, ob Sie weitere Dienste gebucht haben.
Kündigung ist nicht gleich Rückerstattung
Die Kündigung stoppt in erster Linie die automatische Verlängerung; sie löst nicht automatisch eine Rückzahlung aus. Für eine Rückerstattung ist laut Anbieter ein separater Antrag nötig. Die auf der Preisseite genannten Fristen unterscheiden sich nach Laufzeit und Angebot. Prüfen Sie daher Ihre Bestellbestätigung und die Bedingungen, die beim Kauf galten, statt von einer einheitlichen Geld-zurück-Frist auszugehen.

Schon eine unerwartete Abbuchung entdeckt?
- Notieren Sie Betrag, Datum und Buchungstext. Suchen Sie in Ihren E-Mail-Postfächern nach Bestellbestätigungen von Total Adblock und verwandten Diensten.
- Prüfen Sie das Total-Portal sowie gegebenenfalls die Abos Ihres Apple- oder Google-Kontos, um den Abrechnungsweg zu finden.
- Kündigen Sie die automatische Verlängerung über den Anbieter oder die Plattform, über die Sie gebucht haben, und bewahren Sie den Nachweis auf.
- Beantragen Sie eine Rückerstattung getrennt, falls Sie eine wünschen. Bei einer Zahlung, die Sie tatsächlich nicht autorisiert haben, wenden Sie sich zusätzlich an den Zahlungsdienstleister oder Ihre Bank.
Eine vergessene Verlängerung, eine App-Store-Abrechnung und eine nicht autorisierte Zahlung sind unterschiedliche Fälle. Klären Sie zuerst, zu welchem Abo die Abbuchung gehört, statt jede Zahlung ohne Prüfung als Betrug zu melden.

Kundenbewertungen können auf Probleme oder Unklarheiten hinweisen, beweisen aber nicht, was in jedem Einzelfall passiert ist. Auch die Existenz einer kostenlosen Basisversion ist kein Beleg dafür, dass Premium oder die automatische Verlängerung für jeden Nutzer gleich ablaufen.
Welche kostenlosen Alternativen gibt es?
- Adblock Plus: Der Anbieter erklärt, dass die grundlegende Werbeblockierung kostenlos bleibt; zusätzliche Premium-Funktionen sind davon getrennt.
- AdBlock: Bietet laut Chrome-Store-Eintrag eine kostenlose Basis mit zusätzlichen Premium-Funktionen. Prüfen Sie auch dort genau, was im kostenlosen Angebot enthalten ist.
- uBlock Origin: Eine kostenlose, filterlistenbasierte Browser-Erweiterung, die für Leser ohne Werbeblocker-Abo interessant sein kann. Verfügbarkeit und Installationsweg hängen vom Browser ab.
- Brave: Ein Browser mit integriertem Blockierschutz kann eine separate Erweiterung überflüssig machen. Das bedeutet jedoch nicht, dass jede Werbung auf jeder Website oder in jeder App blockiert wird.
Keine dieser Optionen sollte ohne Prüfung als auf jedem Gerät und in jeder App gleich wirksam verstanden werden. Browser und Betriebssysteme setzen unterschiedliche technische Grenzen.
