Verdict: The Golden Concept RSC Onyx Black can turn a compatible Apple Watch into a dramatic, Richard Mille-inspired luxury sports-watch statement. In Fratello Watches’ April 23, 2022 hands-on review, the 41mm sample remained usable for touch, charging, the Digital Crown, side button and normal watch functions. However, it is an expensive exterior conversion—not a new watch—with irreversible strap cutting, fiddly screw installation, a very large wrist presence and no confirmed universal compatibility with current Apple Watch generations.
Important: The evidence below comes from that historical review of a sample supplied by Golden Concept. The reported $1,599 price, availability and supported models may have changed; confirm the exact case, size and generation with Golden Concept before ordering.
What the RSC Onyx Black actually is
The RSC Onyx Black is an aftermarket housing and strap for an existing Apple Watch. You supply the Apple Watch; Golden Concept supplies the external case components and rubber strap. The Apple Watch electronics, display and software remain inside. It is therefore a fashion conversion, not a mechanical watch or an independent smartwatch.

The model belongs to Golden Concept’s Racing Sport Carbon (RSC) family. Its purpose is visual: replace Apple’s familiar rounded enclosure with an oversized, angular luxury-sports-watch silhouette.

Design and materials
The reviewed configuration used titanium around a carbon-composite plate, with four gold-plated screws securing the rear plate. The sample had rose-gold-plated titanium; other listings have shown raw-titanium and different finish combinations, so “Onyx Black” does not necessarily describe one universal material specification. Fratello’s review describes the styling as reminiscent of Richard Mille, but this is only a visual comparison—there is no Richard Mille or Apple partnership, licensing or endorsement.
A raised bezel frames the Apple Watch display, while the exposed screws and skeletonized carbon plate create the intended exotic-watch effect. From a distance it can look convincingly elaborate. In ordinary settings, that same design is conspicuous and may appear excessive rather than discreet.
Installation: straightforward, but not casual
- Confirm the exact version first. Select the Apple Watch generation and case size specified for your watch. Similar product images make wrong-size orders easy.
- Place the watch head in the front housing. Check that the display sits evenly under the bezel.
- Fit the rear carbon plate. Make sure the openings and controls align before tightening anything.
- Install the screws. Use the supplied screwdriver with firm, controlled pressure and keep it seated in each slot.
- Test before cutting. Verify touch, the Digital Crown, side button and charging while the watch is installed.
- Fit the strap last. Measure your wrist and trim the rubber strap gradually.
Fratello found the supplied screwdriver was not an ideal fit and reported minor burrs on screw slots during installation; spare screws were included. Do not force a driver that rocks in the slot, and do not repeatedly overtighten.

Strap-cutting warning
Cutting the supplied rubber strap is irreversible. The two ends are not completely interchangeable: the six-o’clock side carries the molded logo. Photograph the strap before cutting, test the case position on your wrist, and remove material one notch at a time. Do not assume both ends should be shortened equally. Check replacement-strap availability before making the first cut.
Compatibility: treat old lists as historical
The 2022 review identifies compatibility with Apple Watch Series 4, 5, 6, 7 and SE, provided the correct size and version are selected. That is useful evidence for the reviewed configuration, not a guarantee for every later model.

Apple Watch generations can differ in case dimensions, sensor layout, microphone and speaker openings, button placement and charging geometry. A case that looks identical in photographs may not fit or expose the right components. Golden Concept’s current storefront emphasizes newer designs, while legacy RSC Onyx Black pages and sitemap entries do not prove current stock. Check the exact model, case size, finish, warranty, shipping and return terms before paying.

Does it preserve Apple Watch functionality?
In the tested setup, Fratello reported that the touchscreen, Digital Crown, side button and charging all worked, and that normal Apple Watch functions remained available. The reviewer also reported no negative effect on water resistance.

How it wears
For the tested 41mm version, Fratello reported:
- Case width: 41mm
- Lug-to-lug: 48mm
- Thickness: 13.8mm
- Case weight: approximately 20g
- Reviewer’s approximate wrist range: 16.5–25cm
The 20g figure is for the case, not the complete Apple Watch-plus-case-and-strap setup. Titanium keeps the shell relatively light, but light does not mean small: the thickness and extended lugs create a substantial footprint. The reviewer found the rubber strap comfortable and its clasp secure. Your experience may differ with heat, sweat, skin sensitivity or prolonged wear.

Try it under a shirt cuff, at a keyboard, during exercise and in bed before deciding it is practical. The angular case can catch on sleeves and feel intrusive during desk work or sleep.

Titanium offers low weight, while the carbon composite supplies the distinctive visual texture and a stiff rear plate. Retailer and manufacturer descriptions use terms such as “aerospace-grade titanium,” “scratch resistance” and IP68 protection; these are marketing or retailer claims, not independent durability tests.
Plated surfaces can show wear differently from raw titanium, and the small screws remain vulnerable to damaged slots during installation. The case may protect some exterior surfaces, but it cannot guarantee protection for the Apple Watch display, electronics or sensors in every impact or accident.

Price and value
Fratello listed the RSC Onyx Black at $1,599 in 2022. That is historical pricing, not a confirmed 2026 price. Current cost may vary by size, finish, taxes, duties and shipping, and the original product page is not reliable evidence of stock.
At this level you are paying for titanium and carbon construction, finishing, assembly, exclusivity and a dramatic transformation. You are not buying a new movement, additional Apple Watch intelligence or improved software. Add the cost of the Apple Watch itself and any replacement screws or strap before comparing the total with a conventional protective case, a premium metal bumper or a genuine traditional luxury watch.
Who should buy it?
Buy only if:
- You specifically want an oversized, attention-grabbing luxury-watch look.
- Your Apple Watch model and size are explicitly confirmed as compatible.
- You accept cutting the strap and installing small screws.
- You value design and exclusivity more than functional or financial efficiency.
Avoid it if:
- You want discreet protection or the best everyday value.
- Your wrist is smaller than the reviewer’s approximately 16.5cm minimum.
- You need independently verified health-sensor performance.
- You are unwilling to make irreversible strap modifications.
- You expect guaranteed support for a newer Apple Watch generation.
Alternatives and newer Golden Concept models
A normal protective case is cheaper, easier to replace and generally more practical. A premium bumper can add metal finishing without changing the Apple Watch’s proportions. A traditional luxury watch is the better choice if your priority is mechanical watchmaking and an identity independent of a phone ecosystem.
Golden Concept’s current collection includes newer cases for recent Apple Watch and Ultra models, but they are different products. For example, the official Japanese storefront lists an RSTIII46 Black Phantom for Apple Watch 10/11 46mm and warns that its rear construction affects health-related functions. Do not substitute a newer model for the RSC Onyx Black without reading that product’s exact compatibility and sensor limitations.
Bottom line
The RSC Onyx Black succeeds as a dramatic luxury shell: the tested sample fitted securely, remained surprisingly usable and was lighter than its imposing appearance suggests. It fails as a rational upgrade for protection, health tracking or value. Treat it as a high-priced fashion conversion for a compatible, style-conscious Apple Watch owner—not as a better Apple Watch—and verify current availability and model support directly with Golden Concept’s official collection.
