YouTube Vanced 17.03.38 was the final widely documented official release, but the project was discontinued in March 2022 and its official download infrastructure is gone. Any APK offered today is a third-party copy: its filename or version number does not prove that it is authentic or safe. We do not recommend downloading an unverified Vanced APK.
What happened to YouTube Vanced?
Vanced was a modified third-party Android YouTube client. Its historical features included ad blocking, background playback, picture-in-picture, dark and AMOLED themes, SponsorBlock, and swipe controls for brightness and volume. Vanced also had a YouTube Music Vanced app and companion components for sign-in. These were features of the original software, not guarantees about copies circulating today. The project’s historical record identifies 17.03.38, released in February 2022, as its final release.
In March 2022, the Vanced project announced that it was discontinuing development, citing legal reasons. Its archived announcement said download links would be removed and the existing app might continue working temporarily. The Vanced Manager repository is now marked discontinued. The project’s public statement is the basis for the legal-reasons explanation; avoid treating unverified accounts of private legal correspondence as established fact.

Is there an official Vanced 17.03.38 APK download?
There is no responsibly verifiable current download from the original Vanced project. Copies may remain on third-party sites or personal archives, but their availability does not establish their source or integrity. We are not linking to a mirror as an “official download.”
Vanced historically used a manager-based installation process and split APK packages. A site offering a single standalone APK—or branding a file “YouTube Vanced 2026”—is not thereby offering a new official release. Such a file may be an altered repack, a fork, or an unrelated app. The original manager’s repository describes its role in installing and managing Vanced components and discusses split-package complications: Vanced Manager on GitHub.

Keep the version claim precise: 17.03.38 is the final historical release, not a current maintained version. There is no current official Vanced release or stable compatibility target for present-day YouTube and Android. Whether an archived copy works depends on the device, Android version, sign-in component, and YouTube’s changing services.

Not from its filename, icon, package name, or version label. A third-party copy may be repackaged, signed with a different certificate, bundled with extra code, or replaced entirely. The Vanced project’s archived communications warned about risks from unofficial modified apps. That warning does not prove every archived copy is malicious, but no mirror should be treated as verified without establishing the exact file’s provenance, signature, and behavior.

Even an APK scanner can only identify some known threats; a clean scan does not prove a modified app is trustworthy. Do not enter your Google password into an unverified clone. Stop if an alleged video app requests unrelated access such as SMS, contacts, device-admin, accessibility, or overlay permissions.
If you already installed a suspicious copy
- Uninstall the app and any companion package you do not trust.
- Review Android app permissions and accessibility access for unfamiliar grants.
- Run Google Play Protect and, if available, a reputable mobile security scan.
- If you entered Google credentials into the app, change the password from a trusted device, revoke unfamiliar account sessions and third-party access, and review account security.
- Watch for unusual battery or data use, pop-ups, and notifications.
Why might Vanced 17.03.38 fail now?
Vanced is abandoned software, so a failure is not necessarily an installation mistake—and reinstalling the same build cannot restore compatibility with changes made after its release.

- YouTube may change its API or server behavior, causing playback, ads, feeds, comments, history, or notifications to fail or behave differently.
- Google sign-in may fail if the MicroG-compatible companion is obsolete or incompatible.
- The app may crash, show “Something went wrong,” or stop playing video. Old code also lacks later security, compatibility, and codec fixes.
- Android may reject an APK because it is incompatible, corrupt, signed differently from an installed copy, or missing required split components.
- Ads or sponsored segments may return if the old blocking implementation no longer matches current behavior—or if the downloaded app is not the original package.
Historically, non-root installations commonly relied on a MicroG-compatible companion for Google account sign-in; root and non-root setups had different prerequisites. A MicroG error is therefore a sign that the old setup may no longer be viable, not a reason to source an unknown companion APK.

Using ReVanced safely
ReVanced is not the Vanced team’s official continuation. It is a separate project that describes itself as continuing Vanced’s legacy. Its manager is intended for patching; avoid random sites offering prepatched “ReVanced APKs.” Start with the official ReVanced Manager project, use its official download page, and follow the official documentation and announcements for current instructions. The project is unofficial, so it does not carry the support or guarantees of the YouTube app.
If Vanced is already installed
If a trusted legacy installation still works, do not replace it simply to chase a random “updated Vanced” APK. Avoid signing in again if the app begins behaving unexpectedly, and do not export or share credentials. If it breaks, use the official YouTube app while deciding whether Premium or the separate ReVanced project suits your needs; repeated installation attempts with unknown builds are not a durable fix.
