If Figma won’t post your comment, first copy the text somewhere safe. Then check that you’re signed into the account with access, confirm the file is online, and try a short plain-text comment. You generally need only view access to comment on a Figma file—not edit access. If the comment is already in the thread but nobody was notified, that’s a notification issue, not a posting failure.
First, check whether the comment actually posted
Before submitting again, look for the comment in its thread or in the comments sidebar. A delayed sync, a resolved thread, or a sidebar filter can make a posted comment seem missing. In the sidebar, check whether you’re viewing only the current page or only your own threads, and whether resolved comments are hidden. Also check the page or prototype view where you originally placed the comment. Figma’s comment guide explains how to view and filter threads.
If the comment is present but a collaborator didn’t get an email or alert, check notification settings before treating it as a failed post. Figma lets people receive all comments on files and threads they’re part of, only mentions and replies, or none; notifications may also be grouped and delivered every 30 minutes. Verify the thread directly rather than relying on email, Slack, Teams, or another alert. See Figma’s notification options.
Make sure you’re in the right commenting context
For a Design file or prototype in the browser or desktop app, open the file, press C or select the comment tool, then click a spot or drag across a region. Type your message and use the send control or press Enter/Return. To reply, open an existing thread and type in its reply field. On mobile, long-press a canvas location and start typing; in FigJam, long-press the board and choose the option to add a comment. Exact controls can vary by app and view. Figma’s file-comment instructions cover the standard workflow.

Comment mode is separate from edit mode: while it’s active, you can’t make normal object changes. Press Esc or select another tool to leave it. If the Send button is missing or unavailable, consider whether you’re in the wrong view, signed into the wrong account, or lacking access before troubleshooting the browser.
Confirm your access and account
Figma’s current permissions guidance says Can view access includes commenting; Can edit includes commenting too, but is not required. Check that the file was shared with the account you’re using, that you haven’t been removed, and that you haven’t opened an old copy or a different prototype link. If access changed while the file was open, reopen it after confirming with the owner. Review Figma’s file and project permissions.
You generally don’t need to buy a paid seat just to comment. Figma describes its free View seat as providing view and comment access to Design, Slides, and FigJam. If you already have view access, paying for a Full seat is unlikely to fix a technical failure. Check Figma’s seat FAQ for current details.

Check connection and service status—without losing your draft
Figma needs a reliable connection for full functionality. If the file shows an offline, saving, or unsynced indicator, the page may remain visible even though a cloud-dependent action has not completed. Figma says some offline changes are stored temporarily and synced after reconnection, but this does not guarantee recovery of a comment that was never submitted. Its documentation gives an offline-change retention limit of up to 30 days, or 7 days for Safari users; those limits are not a promise that an unsent comment can be recovered. - Copy the comment text into a temporary note before refreshing, closing the tab, or restarting the app.
- Check your connection and any offline or unsynced indicator, then wait briefly for service to return.
- When connected, check the thread and comments sidebar for the comment.
- If it is absent, reopen or reload the file, paste the saved text, and submit it once.
Avoid clicking Submit repeatedly while the connection is unstable; a delayed sync could result in duplicates. Check Figma’s status page for a service incident. When checked on August 18, 2026, it displayed “All Systems Operational” and listed a July 27, 2026 disruption as resolved. Status can change, and an operational page does not rule out an account-, file-, network-, or browser-specific problem.
Test with plain text
Try a short message such as Test comment before adding an image, GIF, long emoji sequence, or @mention. Then test in this order:

- Post a new plain-text comment.
- Reply to an existing thread.
- Try another location in the same file.
- Try another file where you have view access.
- Add the attachment or @mention only after plain text works.
If text works but an image or GIF fails, a firewall, proxy, or content filter may be interfering with media upload. Don’t bypass workplace security controls; ask your IT administrator whether the required Figma traffic is allowed. Figma notes firewall settings as a possible issue for comment media.

Rule out browser problems
Open Figma in a private or incognito window, sign into the intended account, and try the same plain-text test. If it works there, an extension or saved browser state may be interfering. Temporarily disable extensions—especially ad blockers, script blockers, privacy tools, or corporate security extensions—then re-enable them one at a time to find a conflict. Restart the browser completely, not just the tab. Don’t change workplace VPN or proxy settings without following your organization’s policy.
Figma recommends a current stable supported browser with WebGL enabled. Its minimum browser versions, checked August 18, 2026, were Chrome 99+, Firefox 101+, Safari 16+, and Microsoft Edge 121+. Figma also specifies that Edge Strict mode privacy must be disabled for Figma.com. These requirements can change; consult Figma’s current system requirements and browser configuration guidance. Figma also recommends current browser versions and 100% zoom.

If the problem remains, try another supported browser, such as the latest stable Chrome or Firefox. If the comment works there, the problem is likely specific to the original browser or its configuration. Figma’s troubleshooting checklist also recommends checking your connection, browser, and extensions.

If you’re using the desktop app, first copy the draft, then force-quit and reopen Figma. If needed, sign out and back in, and test the same file in a supported browser. If the browser works but the desktop app doesn’t, update or reinstall the app. Figma says the desktop app provides the same core functionality as the browser; its documented requirements are macOS 12 or later and Windows 10 or later in a 64-bit environment. On mobile, use the app’s long-press commenting gesture, then test on a desktop browser or app if posting still fails. Mobile commenting is available, but the mobile experience and browser file access are not identical to desktop. Preserve the text before switching or restarting.

If you mean Figma Community comments
Community comments have different requirements from comments inside a working file. You need a Figma account and Community profile, and the resource creator must have comments enabled. If the Add a comment field is missing, comments may be turned off. A team or organization admin browsing Community in that admin context cannot add, edit, or reply to comments on their resources; switch to a personal Community profile. A creator may also restrict a user from future comments. See Figma’s Community comment rules.

Use the pattern to narrow down the cause
- Comment tool absent or unavailable: Check access, account identity, whether you’re in the right view, and—for Community—whether comments are enabled.
- Text is accepted, but Send fails: Check connectivity, browser interference, app state, and whether an attachment is involved.
- Comment appears after a delay: Suspect sync or network latency; verify the thread before posting again.
- Comment exists but no alert arrived: Check notification preferences and sidebar filters; the post may have succeeded.
- Only one file fails: Recheck access and account identity for that file; another file is a useful comparison.
- Every file fails: Test another browser or app, then investigate the account, network, and Figma status.
When to contact Figma support
Escalate if a plain-text test fails in multiple files and supported environments despite confirmed view access, if several collaborators are affected, if the status page shows an incident, or if a comment may have been lost after working offline. Include the file or prototype link only if it is safe to share, the product area, browser or app version, operating system, approximate time and time zone, exact error, and whether other users can comment. Mention whether a private window changes the result. Use a screenshot or recording only if it does not expose confidential design content.
