You do not need an invite to create a regular Clubhouse account. Download the app from an official source and sign up with a supported mobile phone number. An invitation may still be needed to join a particular House, while a live-room invite is simply a way into a conversation.
Is Clubhouse still invite-only?
No. Clubhouse used invitations during its early growth, but it began general release in July 2021. Its transparency report records that users no longer needed an invite, and its current getting-started instructions direct new users to sign up with a mobile phone number.
If you are creating a standard account, you do not need an invite code, a friend already on Clubhouse, or a paid invitation. Old posts that describe a waitlist or invite quota refer to the app’s earlier launch period. A screen asking for an invitation may instead relate to a specific House, a room, or an outdated link.

- Download the official app. Use Clubhouse’s download page, the Apple App Store, or Google Play. Avoid unofficial app downloads.
- Open the app and choose its signup or get-started option. Button wording can vary by app version.
- Enter a mobile number from a mobile service provider. Clubhouse says VoIP numbers are not supported; whether an internet-based number works can vary.
- Enter the SMS verification code in the official app, then follow the prompts to set up your profile.
- Verify an email address for recovery. Email is not the ordinary login method, but a verified address can help if you later lose access to the phone number on your account. See Clubhouse’s guidance on changing your account email.
For the U.S. App Store listing, Clubhouse is listed as free with optional in-app purchases, and the current iPhone requirement shown there is iOS 17.0 or later. Requirements and availability can differ by country, device, and platform; check the relevant store listing for your device. Clubhouse is also listed on Google Play, though availability and compatibility may vary.

Three different things people mean by “invite”
The confusion usually comes from treating account access, House membership, and room access as if they were the same thing. They are separate:

How to join a House that requires approval or an invite
Houses are communities within Clubhouse and can set their own membership rules. Clubhouse describes Houses as open to all, by approval, or invite-only. An approval-based House may let you join a waitlist and require approval; an invite-only House has no House waitlist. These restrictions apply to the House, not to Clubhouse as a whole. - Create and verify your Clubhouse account first.
- Search for the House you want. Clubhouse search can surface people, rooms, and Houses; see its search guidance.
- If the House is open, use its join option. If it is approval-based, request access and answer any required waitlist question.
- If it is invite-only, ask the founder, an admin, or a member who is allowed to invite people to send you a House invitation or link.
- Open the invitation or link in Clubhouse and follow the join or request prompt.
House founders can manage invitations, links, and whether members may invite others. A friend’s inability to admit you may reflect the House’s settings or the friend’s permissions, rather than a problem with your Clubhouse account. Details are in Clubhouse’s guide to creating Houses.

How to join a live room
A member can share an active room using its Share option and invite or share the link with other people. That invitation is for a conversation, not for app-wide access. Clubhouse also announced “Instant Invites,” a limited way to join a conversation without downloading the app or creating an account. Availability and the experience can change, so treat this as a room-access option rather than a way to create a full Clubhouse account. If signup, an invitation, or verification is not working
The SMS code does not arrive
- Check that you entered the correct country code and phone number.
- Confirm the number can receive ordinary SMS and that your phone has reception; carrier filtering or a delivery delay may be involved.
- Wait a little before requesting another code rather than repeatedly submitting requests.
- Use the official app and update it if an update is available. Do not assume that buying an invite will fix SMS verification.
- If you are using Google Voice or another VoIP number, try a conventional carrier-issued mobile number instead. Clubhouse says VoIP numbers are unsupported, and results with them vary.
Your friend’s invitation did not work
First identify what they sent: a House invitation, a room link, or something described as an old-style app invite. Then check that the invitation went to the number or account you are using, that you opened the link on a device with Clubhouse installed, and that the House permits that member to invite you. If the House is approval-based, you may need to request access and wait rather than join immediately. An old or expired link, or a changed app interface, can also affect what happens.
You cannot find an invite-code field
That is expected for ordinary signup: Clubhouse no longer requires an app invite. Do not search for a legacy invite-code box or pay someone who claims to provide one. If a prompt appears after opening a particular link, check whether it is for a restricted House rather than general account creation.

You lost access to the phone number on your account
If you previously verified an email address, Clubhouse’s recovery instructions say you can use it when updating your number. The documented path is to open the app, tap Get started, enter the number originally associated with your account, choose I lost access to my phone number, and follow the recovery-email code prompts. After recovering access, update the phone number. Button labels may vary by app version; see Clubhouse’s instructions for updating your account phone number.
Should you buy a Clubhouse invite?
No purchase is needed to create a normal account. A seller offering an app invite is not solving a standard signup requirement, and paying creates avoidable exposure to payment fraud, phishing, account-takeover attempts, or unofficial app downloads. Do not give anyone your SMS verification code: enter it only in the official Clubhouse app. Download from Clubhouse or a recognized app store, and use a legitimate House invitation only when you want access to that particular community.
