Windows 11 usually installs Bluetooth drivers through Windows Update. If Bluetooth is missing, unstable, or showing an error, first check for updates; if that does not fix it, install the driver made for your exact PC model from its manufacturer. There is no single Bluetooth driver that works for every Windows 11 computer.
What a Bluetooth driver does—and when to update it
A Bluetooth driver lets Windows communicate with the computer’s Bluetooth radio. That radio is usually built into a wireless card or supplied by a USB adapter; it is not a driver for the headphones, mouse, or keyboard you want to connect. Some manufacturers bundle Bluetooth and Wi-Fi drivers, while others provide separate packages. Dell, for example, notes that some systems require the wireless network driver rather than a separately listed Bluetooth package (Dell driver guidance).
Updating can help if the Bluetooth switch has disappeared, Windows cannot find devices, pairing fails after an upgrade, devices disconnect, or Device Manager shows a warning icon. It is not necessary to install a newer driver just because one exists; update when Windows Update or the PC maker offers a suitable driver, or when troubleshooting points to a driver problem.

Check that your PC has Bluetooth
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices and look for the Bluetooth switch. A missing switch can mean a missing driver, disabled radio, or absent hardware; it does not by itself identify the cause. See Microsoft’s Bluetooth settings guidance.
- Open Device Manager by pressing Windows key + X > Device Manager, or search for Device Manager from Start. Expand Bluetooth. Names may include Intel Wireless Bluetooth, Realtek Bluetooth Adapter, MediaTek, Qualcomm, or Generic Bluetooth Adapter.
- If Bluetooth is not listed, inspect Other devices, Network adapters, and Universal Serial Bus controllers for an unidentified device or warning icon. In Device Manager, select View > Show hidden devices.
If no adapter appears, check that Airplane Mode is off and look for a physical wireless switch or a Bluetooth setting in BIOS/UEFI. The PC may not contain Bluetooth hardware, or the radio may be disabled or faulty. Microsoft’s missing-Bluetooth troubleshooting covers additional causes. For a desktop without Bluetooth, a compatible USB Bluetooth adapter is an option; confirm Windows 11 support with its manufacturer.

Method 1: Check Windows Update first
- Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates, install available updates, and restart if prompted.
- Return to Windows Update and open Advanced options > Optional updates > Driver updates, if that section is available. Select a relevant Bluetooth or wireless driver and install it.
Windows Update provides recommended hardware drivers, but optional driver updates may require manual selection and are not always offered. It may also lack a vendor package suited to a particular PC model. Microsoft explains the update options in its driver update guidance.
Method 2: Search for a driver in Device Manager
- In Device Manager, expand Bluetooth. If the adapter is unidentified, check Other devices.
- Right-click the adapter and select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers and follow any prompts.
- Restart the PC after installation.
If Windows says, “The best drivers for your device are already installed,” that only describes the drivers Windows found through this search. A newer or more suitable package may still be available from your PC manufacturer. Microsoft documents this process at Update Bluetooth drivers in Windows.

- What Can I do if the Bluetooth adapter can not work?: Ensure there are no other Bluetooth devices installed on the computer. If there are, disable all existing Bluetooth devices in "Device Manager", then insert the adapter and try again. (For detailed information please read the user manual)
Method 3: Get the driver from your PC manufacturer
For a laptop or branded desktop, the PC maker’s support page is the best manual source because its package is matched to the computer’s model and configuration. Have the exact model number, service tag, or serial number ready. Use another internet-connected device if the affected PC cannot get online, and sign in to Windows with an account that can install software.

- Visit the official support site for the computer manufacturer and search by exact model, service tag, or serial number.
- Choose Windows 11 as the operating system, then look under categories such as Bluetooth, Wireless, Network, or Networking.
- Download the package that matches the PC and adapter. Read the package description: Bluetooth may be separate or bundled with Wi-Fi. Dell’s Network, Ethernet & Wireless category, for instance, may offer a combined or wireless package; see its model-specific driver instructions.
- Open the downloaded installer, usually an
.exe, and follow its prompts. Restart Windows when installation finishes.
If the Bluetooth device is a separately purchased USB adapter or wireless card, use that hardware maker’s official support page instead. A chip maker’s download can be appropriate when you know the exact adapter model and the PC maker has no suitable package, but do not assume a chipset-branded driver fits every PC using that brand. For example, Intel lists Wireless Bluetooth version 24.50.0, dated June 30, 2026, for supported adapters—not as a universal Windows 11 driver (Intel support page). Avoid generic driver-updater utilities; an official Windows or manufacturer package is easier to verify and less likely to be mismatched.

Install a driver manually from an extracted folder
Use this route only if the manufacturer supplies a driver archive or files rather than a normal installer. The package must match the adapter and Windows 11; do not choose an unrelated .inf file at random.
- Extract the downloaded ZIP or driver package to a folder you can find.
- In Device Manager, right-click the Bluetooth adapter—or the unidentified device under Other devices—and select Update driver.
- Select Browse my computer for drivers, then choose the extracted folder. Leave Include subfolders enabled.
- Select Next, follow any prompts, and restart Windows.
Microsoft’s manual driver instructions describe selecting the folder containing driver files such as .inf and .sys.

Reinstall or roll back a driver
Reinstall when an update has not fixed the problem
- In Device Manager, expand Bluetooth and right-click the adapter.
- Select Uninstall device and confirm. For an ordinary reinstall, do not select Delete the driver software for this device unless you already have a replacement driver available.
- Restart the PC. Windows should try to reinstall the driver. If it does not, open Device Manager and select Action > Scan for hardware changes.

- In Device Manager, right-click the Bluetooth adapter and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver, if available.
- Restart the PC.
Windows can roll back only when a previous driver package is available. If the button is unavailable, get the appropriate package from the PC manufacturer instead. See Microsoft’s driver guidance.

Confirm the driver works and pair a device
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices and confirm the Bluetooth switch appears and can be turned on.
- In Device Manager, confirm the adapter is present without a yellow warning icon. Open its Properties and check Device status for an error.
- Put a known accessory into pairing mode, keep it near the PC, and make sure its battery is charged.
- Select Add device > Bluetooth in Settings and choose the accessory.
Installing a driver does not pair an accessory automatically. If the adapter looks healthy but the accessory will not connect, check pairing mode, range, battery, and whether the accessory is already connected elsewhere; then remove and add it again.
