Google refreshed the weather icons shown in parts of the Pixel experience in June 2024. The change was visual—not a new forecast service or a major weather feature—and it may already be on your phone. Because the rollout could vary between devices and screens, a missing icon refresh does not necessarily mean anything is wrong.
What changed—and when?
A refreshed set of symbols for conditions such as sun, clouds, moon and precipitation was reported in Google Weather on June 6, 2024. Pixel owners could see the artwork in At a Glance, the Pixel Weather app and weather widgets. The contemporary report observed the change on a Pixel 8, but did not establish that every Pixel model received it at the same time. The June 2024 report described a visual refresh; Google’s June Pixel Feature Drop announcement did not list it among the headline features.
That makes this a historical update, not a new rollout arriving today. The available reporting does not identify a required Android version, security patch or dedicated system update. Google app, Pixel Weather and launcher changes can arrive separately, and some parts of the experience may update before others.
Where to look on your Pixel
At a Glance
Return to the home screen and check the date-and-weather area at the top. If weather is absent, press and hold the At a Glance area, then open Settings or At a Glance settings. Look through the customization or features list and enable the weather option if it is available. Google says At a Glance can show weather on the home screen, lock screen and Always-On Display, though availability can vary by device, language, country and region. Pixel Weather
Open Pixel Weather and check the current-conditions and forecast screens. Google currently documents Pixel Weather for Pixel 6 and later, including Pixel Tablet; that current support range does not prove that every eligible device received the 2024 icons simultaneously. The app’s present-day capabilities—including features such as maps, pollen information and AI Weather Reports where available—are separate from the icon refresh. Weather widget
To add one, press and hold an empty part of the home screen, tap Widgets, find Google or Pixel Weather, and drag a weather widget onto the screen. Open it and check that it is using the intended location. Google explains the general widget workflow in its Pixel help.

Why the icons may not match everywhere
Some users reported seeing the newer symbols in At a Glance while the Weather app showed an older interface, or otherwise behaving inconsistently across surfaces. A June 2024 Pixel Community thread records one such case. A staged rollout, different app or launcher versions, cached assets, regional differences or temporary server-side testing could explain a mismatch, but Google has not confirmed a single cause.

Google Weather, Pixel Weather, At a Glance and the lock-screen display are related experiences, not necessarily one identical interface. The 2024 report also noted that Samsung Galaxy phones generally use their own weather-icon treatment; that observation should not be taken as a universal rule for every Android device.
If weather is missing, try these checks
- Check location access. Confirm Pixel Weather has the location permission it needs, or select a saved location in the app or widget.
- Check At a Glance settings. Make sure At a Glance is enabled and its weather option is turned on, if offered.
- Open Pixel Weather directly. This helps distinguish missing At a Glance information from a broader app or location issue.
- Try a weather widget. Add one temporarily, confirm its location and open it. Some users have reported that doing this restored At a Glance weather, but it is a community workaround—not a guaranteed Google fix. See the community report.
- Restart and check Play Store updates. Update Google-related apps if updates are offered, then restart the phone. Manually updating does not guarantee that a staged visual rollout will appear immediately.
- Wait or contact Pixel support. If conditions and location remain unavailable, the issue may be unrelated to the icon design. Weather disappearing from At a Glance has also been reported after app changes in the Pixel Community.
If only animations or immersive weather effects are missing, check Battery Saver: Google notes that animations and immersive weather vibrations are unavailable while it is active. Weather features also vary by region; for example, maps, pollen information and other current app features have their own availability limits.
What the refreshed icons do not mean
Different artwork does not indicate more accurate forecasts, a new weather-data provider, extra forecast days or improved location detection. It is not proof that your phone received a Pixel Feature Drop, and the evidence does not point to a special system update being required. There is no reason to factory-reset a phone, sideload an app or install a third-party weather app just to chase a cosmetic change.

The Bottom Line
If your Pixel’s weather symbols look different, you are likely seeing Google’s June 2024 visual refresh. If they do not, check the relevant weather surface and settings; rollout timing and availability can vary, and the icons themselves do not change the forecast.
