Anthropic temporarily increased Claude usage allowances outside peak hours for about two weeks, beginning with an announcement on March 14, 2026. Contemporary reports said the offer covered Claude users across tiers, including Free, but it was neither a permanent plan change nor a promise of twice as many messages at every hour. The promotion has ended.
What Anthropic’s two-week promotion did
Reports published around March 14, 2026 described Anthropic’s offer as a temporary doubling of Claude usage outside peak hours, framed as a thank-you to users. It was expected to run for roughly two weeks. The precise end time—and whether every account received the change on the same schedule—was not clearly established in the available reporting. TechRadar and Tom’s Guide both highlighted the off-peak condition.

The key qualifier is “outside peak hours.” This was not evidence that every user had twice the usual allowance all day. A person who mostly used Claude during busy periods could have noticed little difference. Nor did Anthropic publish a universal quota such as a fixed number of extra messages for every plan. The practical effect could vary with the account, model, conversation length, and task.

Who was included—and what remains unclear
Contemporary coverage described the offer as applying broadly across Claude tiers, including Free and paid users such as Pro and Max subscribers. Reporting did not establish a detailed eligibility list for every organizational plan, so Team and Enterprise users should not assume specific treatment from the broad description alone.

Reports indicated the increase was applied automatically rather than through a code or opt-in, but they did not document a detailed activation workflow. There is no reliable basis to invent a settings switch or promise that every account displayed a promotion notice.
Why “double usage” did not mean twice the messages
Claude’s allowance is not necessarily a simple daily message counter. A short exchange and a long conversation containing large files or extensive context can consume very different amounts of capacity. Model selection and resource-intensive features can also affect how quickly a user reaches a limit. As a result, two people on the same plan could experience the promotion differently.
Anthropic’s current Claude pricing page describes usage limits that include rolling five-hour session windows and, on paid plans, weekly limits. Those current controls help explain why a temporary off-peak boost would not necessarily appear as a clean, doubled number in a visible meter. The available March reporting does not establish precisely how the allowance was calculated or how peak-hour weighting worked for each user.

It did not make Claude unlimited or permanently change plans
The March offer was temporary relief, not an unlimited-use tier or a lasting increase to subscription quotas. Current plans still have usage limits; Anthropic describes paid subscriptions as providing more usage, not unlimited usage. The promotion also did not establish a new, universal message allowance that users could rely on after it ended.
For present-day plan details, check Anthropic’s pricing page, since prices and limits can change. As listed there on August 18, 2026, Pro was $20 monthly or $200 annually, while Max started at $100 monthly and offered 5× or 20× Pro usage options. These are plan details, not continuations of the March bonus.

Do not conflate the March Claude promotion with Anthropic’s later announcement on May 6, 2026. In that separate update, Anthropic said it would double Claude Code five-hour rate limits for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans, remove peak-hour reductions for Claude Code Pro and Max accounts, and raise API rate limits for Opus models. The scope and product mechanics were different. Anthropic’s announcement describes those later changes.
API access is separately billed through the Anthropic Console; a Claude Pro subscription does not include API credits or Console usage. Anthropic explains the distinction in its Pro plan help article. The available evidence does not establish that API customers received the March consumer promotion.
Why an off-peak bonus can matter
Anthropic described the promotion as a thank-you. An off-peak allowance can also be understood as a way to make more capacity available when demand is lower, rather than permanently expanding peak-time capacity; that is a reasonable interpretation of the design, not a stated explanation of Anthropic’s motive.
If a similar offer returns, users can make the most of it by scheduling large tasks outside busy periods, keeping prompts focused, avoiding repeated uploads of the same large files, and starting a fresh conversation when an old thread has accumulated context that is no longer needed. Monitor both session and weekly limits, and check whether the work is happening in Claude chat, Claude Code, or the API before attributing a limit to a subscription promotion.
