Huawei led mainland China’s foldable-smartphone market in Q1 2026, with Honor in second place. Reporting of IDC data put Huawei at about 60% of the segment and the two brands together at about 81%. Those are quarter-specific shipment-share figures—not a full-year 2026 result, a revenue ranking, or evidence that Huawei leads foldables worldwide.
What the latest figures say
The clearest recent foldable-specific snapshot is for the first quarter of 2026. Gizmochina’s report of IDC data put Huawei’s share at approximately 60% and Huawei and Honor’s combined share at 81%. IDC’s own Q1 China smartphone analysis supports the broad picture: Huawei led the overall market, its Pura X had shipped more than 1.5 million units, and Honor remained second in foldables.
The precise 60% and 81% figures should be read as reported IDC figures: the underlying foldable-share table is not reproduced in the available IDC article. The combined figure does not establish Honor’s exact standalone share, so it would be misleading to calculate one by subtraction.

Here, “market” means foldable smartphones in mainland China, and “share” refers to the reported shipment-based picture. It does not mean retail sell-through, revenue, profit, or popularity. Shipment figures can differ from the number of devices consumers bought in stores during the same period.

Huawei’s lead is a continuation, not a new Q1 upset
Huawei was already far ahead in earlier reported snapshots. IT之家’s coverage of IDC data for Q2 2025 put Huawei above 70% of China’s foldable market, with Honor second at 7.6%. Later 2025 reporting also gave Huawei a large lead, but the period and methodology are not sufficiently clear here to treat those figures as a directly comparable quarter-by-quarter series.
The safe conclusion is that Huawei retained first place into Q1 2026 while Honor strengthened its standing as the main challenger. The available data do not establish that Honor has overtaken Huawei, nor do they support a precise, consistent trend line for the size of the gap.

Why Huawei is ahead
Pura X added a distinct format—and meaningful volume
The Pura X is not just another conventional book-style foldable. Its wide-format design gives Huawei a distinctive product within a portfolio that also includes book-style and other foldable designs. IDC’s report that Pura X shipments exceeded 1.5 million by Q1 2026 provides concrete evidence of its scale. That makes the model an important contributor to Huawei’s momentum, though it does not by itself prove how much of the brand’s overall lead it caused.

Huawei sells across more than one foldable form factor. That breadth gives it ways to appeal to buyers who want different screen sizes and designs, although it does not mean every model sells in comparable volumes. IDC also cited improved supply of Huawei flagship and foldable devices in its discussion of the company’s broader China performance. More reliable availability can turn demand into shipments; it is a separate factor from the products’ appeal.

Huawei’s domestic brand presence and its HarmonyOS-centered device ecosystem may also help retain customers who already use Huawei phones or connected products. That is a plausible competitive advantage, not proof that ecosystem loyalty alone explains the market-share result.
The broader market was not booming: IDC reported about 69.04 million smartphone shipments in China in Q1 2026, down 3.3% year over year. Premium devices nevertheless remained relatively resilient, giving high-end products such as foldables a more supportive context than the overall decline alone might suggest.

Honor is a substantive challenger, not the leader
Honor’s Magic V6 is its principal current challenger in the evidence available here. Honor announced its China launch on March 10, 2026, with a starting price of ¥8,999. Its official specifications list a 7.95-inch inner display and a 6.52-inch outer display. Battery capacity varies by configuration: most versions have a 6,700mAh rated battery, while the 16GB/1TB version has a 7,000mAh rated battery. Honor also lists 120W charging.

The Magic V6’s pitch combines a large battery and flagship hardware with thinness, durability positioning and MagicOS features. Its official entry price gives shoppers a concrete starting point, but price comparisons depend on storage configuration, offers and the date. It is not a like-for-like comparison with every Huawei model, and the starting price does not describe the cost of the highest-capacity version.
That strategy matters even while Honor remains second. Huawei has the clear lead, but a capable rival gives buyers an alternative and puts pressure on the leader to compete on design, battery life, software and availability. The evidence supports a stronger second-place position for Honor—not a claim that it has already closed the gap by a verified amount.
What this ranking does—and does not—tell you
- It is China-specific. Huawei’s domestic strength should not be presented as proof that it leads the global foldable market.
- It is a Q1 2026 result. A later IDC report discusses Q2 performance in China’s overall smartphone market, but does not establish a new Q2 foldable ranking. Overall-phone data cannot substitute for foldable-specific data.
- It is not a revenue ranking. Expensive products, including tri-fold devices, can affect revenue differently from unit share. The available figures do not settle that comparison.
- The category definition matters. Foldable totals may depend on whether different designs, including tri-fold phones, are included. Do not assume figures from different trackers or periods use identical definitions.
- Market share is not a buying verdict. A vendor’s shipment lead cannot determine which phone best suits an individual’s software needs, budget or service options.
For someone choosing between the brands in China, Huawei may make more sense if integration with Huawei devices and HarmonyOS is the priority. Honor may appeal to buyers who put a large battery and its particular hardware mix first. Buyers outside China should verify regional software and Google-service compatibility, network-band support, warranty coverage and access to repairs before importing either device. The ranking is a useful measure of Huawei’s domestic scale—not a substitute for checking local support.
