No—not for the original launch. Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, and its U.S. retail preorder period began April 24, 2025. As of August 18, 2026, shoppers should look for a console they can buy now, not a launch reservation. Nintendo’s announced U.S. MSRP is $449.99 through August 31, 2026, and $499.99 starting September 1, before sales tax.
When did Nintendo Switch 2 preorders open?
Nintendo initially announced April 9, 2025, as the preorder date for the U.S. and Canada. That date was later delayed; the final U.S. retail preorder date was April 24, 2025. Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, so that original preorder window is over. Nintendo Life’s coverage of the revised date documents the change from April 9 to April 24; Nintendo’s launch announcement confirms the June 5 release date.

A retailer might still use “preorder” for a later shipment, special edition, or bundle. That would be a product-specific offer, not a chance to reserve a console for its original launch. Check the exact product, estimated ship date, and cancellation terms before placing an order.

Start with Nintendo’s U.S. How to Buy page, which points to the official Nintendo Store and participating retailers. Nintendo says an invitation has not been required for direct purchases since August 28, 2025, though purchase limits may apply. No invitation does not mean guaranteed stock: check the product page for availability and any limits.

You can also compare listings at major U.S. retailers such as Best Buy, GameStop, Target, Walmart, and Amazon. These are places to check, not a guarantee that any one has stock. Availability, pickup, delivery dates, and prices change.
On a marketplace listing, inspect who is selling and shipping the console. A third-party seller hosted by a major retailer is not necessarily the retailer itself; price, returns, and warranty support may differ. Compare the checkout total, delivery estimate, return terms, purchase limits, and any shipping charge.
U.S. price: $449.99 through August 31, then $499.99
Nintendo has announced a U.S. MSRP increase for the system: $449.99 through August 31, 2026, rising to $499.99 effective September 1, 2026. The U.S. prices exclude sales tax. See Nintendo’s May 2026 price announcement for the announced change.

If you are considering a purchase before the change, confirm the price and terms at checkout. A listing or order placed by August 31 does not, by itself, guarantee delivery before September 1 or establish how a retailer will handle the price change; check that retailer’s policy. Nintendo’s announced MSRP is not a promise that every retailer will charge that exact amount at every moment.
Waiting gives you more time to compare offers, but the announced post-change U.S. MSRP is $50 higher. A bundle may cost more than the base system, so compare its contents and total price rather than assuming it is a better deal. Nintendo announced a Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle at launch, but that does not establish that the bundle is currently available or what it costs now. Check Nintendo’s U.S. buying page or the retailer’s live listing for current bundle details.
What to check before you place an order
- Seller: Confirm whether Nintendo or the retailer itself is selling the console, or whether it is a marketplace seller.
- Price: Compare the checkout price with the applicable U.S. MSRP, and account for tax and shipping.
- Timing: Look for an in-stock status, pickup window, or specific ship estimate. “Preorder,” “backorder,” and “coming soon” do not necessarily mean quick delivery.
- Terms: Review purchase limits, cancellation rules, return policy, and warranty details.
- Bundle contents: Confirm whether a game is included, and whether it is physical or a download code.
Do not pay an inflated marketplace price just to avoid checking other sellers. If a listing’s seller, delivery estimate, or terms are unclear, compare it with Nintendo’s official store and other established retailers first.

Hardware preorder versus a Nintendo eShop game preorder
The original Switch 2 hardware preorder period has ended. Nintendo also uses preorder terminology for eligible digital games and DLC in the eShop, which is a separate process. Nintendo’s support page on preorders and pre-purchases explains that eligible digital preorders are generally charged no earlier than seven days before release, while physical Nintendo Store pre-purchases are charged immediately. Those general terms should not be mistaken for the original Switch 2 hardware preorder policy.
If a current console listing says “preorder,” read the product description and date carefully: it may mean a later shipment rather than a launch reservation. For a regular purchase, use Nintendo’s current U.S. buying page as the starting point and verify availability directly with the seller.
