Google’s Android Auto team reportedly said in late January 2024 that it had identified an Android 14 connection problem and would deliver a fix through an Android OS update. The statement, reported on February 15, 2024, named no release, build, or date. As of August 2026, that “coming soon” wording is a historical promise—not evidence of a current imminent update or a confirmed fix for every phone and car.
What was the Android 14 Android Auto problem?
Some users reported connection failures after updating to Android 14, first prominently on Pixel phones. Symptoms varied: wireless Android Auto might not launch even though the phone connected to the car over Bluetooth; a session might start and then disconnect; or the car might show a blank or unresponsive projection screen. Some reports described wired Android Auto continuing to work while wireless failed, while others reported trouble with both connection types. These reports do not mean Android 14 broke Android Auto for everyone.
Reports named Pixel models including the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, and later coverage also referred to Samsung Galaxy and other Android 14 devices. Sony XAV-AX4000 and XAV-AX6000 receivers featured in reports, alongside vehicles such as the Toyota RAV4 and Honda Civic. Those examples identify reported combinations, not proof that one phone maker, car brand, or receiver caused the problem. Early Pixel reports and later reports involving wireless connections and head units describe user-reported cases rather than a universal diagnosis.

A phone may pair successfully while projection itself fails. A wired connection follows a different path and can help narrow down the fault.

What did Google confirm, and when?
According to a February 15, 2024 report, Google’s Android Auto team had said in an Android Auto support-community thread that it had identified the issue and that a fix was “coming soon” through an Android OS update. The available statement did not specify an Android version, security patch, Pixel Feature Drop, rollout date, affected-device list, or geographic availability. It was not a promise that updating the Android Auto app alone would resolve the issue.
The February 2024 report said some users still had problems after that month’s Pixel security update, and that complaints also continued among some Samsung users on Android 14 and One UI 6. It raised the March 2024 Pixel Feature Drop as a possibility, not a confirmed delivery date. The preview of that update does not establish that it included this fix. The evidence cited here does not identify the final build that resolved the reported problem, verify a universal fix, or establish that all phone-and-car combinations received the same remedy. If you have the issue now, check your current phone and vehicle software rather than treating the 2024 statement as a current release notice.
Troubleshoot in a way that separates phone, car, and connection problems
Do these checks while parked. Change one thing at a time where practical, so you can tell what affects the result.

- Compare wired and wireless behavior. If your vehicle supports wired Android Auto, try it with a known-good, data-capable cable in the designated Android Auto USB port. If wired works but wireless does not, the fault is more likely to involve the wireless pairing or projection path. Wired mode is a workaround, not proof that the reported software issue has been repaired. If wired also fails, continue with the checks below.
- Rule out a cable or port problem. A charge-only or damaged cable, an unsuitable USB port, or a loose connection can cause a separate wired failure. If possible, try another suitable cable and the vehicle’s specified port. A cable cannot repair a wireless-only problem.
- Install available updates. Check for Android system and Google Play system updates on the phone, and updates for Android Auto and Google Play services through Google Play. Also check the vehicle or aftermarket receiver maker for infotainment firmware updates, and check for manufacturer-specific phone software updates. These are separate components and delivery channels; an available app update is not confirmation that it contains an operating-system fix.
- Recreate the pairing. Forget the phone in the car’s Bluetooth settings; remove the car from the phone’s Bluetooth devices and, where shown, from Android Auto’s previously connected cars. Restart the phone and infotainment system, then pair again while parked. Make sure the phone’s Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and the permissions or settings requested by Android Auto and the vehicle are enabled. Re-pairing may help with corrupted pairing data, but it did not solve every reported case.
- Reset Android Auto cautiously. In the phone’s Settings, open Android Auto’s app information, force stop it, and clear its cache. If that does not help, clearing storage/data is a further option, but it may remove saved settings and require you to set up the car again. Menu labels and paths can differ by Android version and manufacturer. Avoid a phone factory reset as an early step; contemporary reports said it failed to help some affected users.
- Cross-test phone and vehicle. If possible, try the affected phone in another compatible car, then try a different phone in the original car. If only one phone fails across cars, a phone-side software or configuration issue becomes more plausible. If several phones fail in one car, or the affected phone works elsewhere, investigate that car’s receiver, firmware, USB port, or compatibility.
- Report a persistent failure with details. Record the phone model, full Android version and build number, Android Auto version, vehicle make/model/year, head-unit model, and whether the failure is wired, wireless, or both. Include whether another phone works in the same car, whether your phone works in another vehicle, the exact message or a short video, and the steps you tried. Follow the support channel’s directions if it requests diagnostic bug-report files.
Some affected users reportedly tried re-pairing, clearing app data, reinstalling the app, and even factory-resetting a phone without success. Repeating resets indefinitely is unlikely to be useful if the failure began after a system update and persists across cars.

- Likely cable or USB-port issue: wired Android Auto fails, but wireless works; results change when you replace the cable or port.
- Likely vehicle or head-unit issue: multiple phones fail in the same car, while the affected phone works in another vehicle; or the receiver has outdated firmware or other abnormal behavior.
- Possible phone-side regression: Android Auto worked before a specific phone update, the phone fails in more than one compatible vehicle, another phone works in the same car, and basic pairing or app resets do not help. This pattern raises suspicion but does not prove the exact cause.
- Separate Bluetooth or settings issue: calls or music behave abnormally too, or the phone’s connection, permission, or battery-management settings have changed. These can produce similar symptoms without being the reported Android 14 issue.
Android releases arrive on different schedules across manufacturers, and wired and wireless compatibility requirements differ. A report about a Pixel does not automatically apply to every Samsung, Motorola, OnePlus, or other Android phone. Likewise, a later failure on Android 14 or a newer version could be a different software regression or a hardware/firmware problem.

For a wireless-only failure, wired Android Auto is the clearest temporary option when the car supports it. It does require a suitable cable and may be inconvenient, and it will not help if the wired path also fails. A wireless adapter is not a guaranteed fix: it adds another device and can introduce compatibility, startup, heat, firmware, or connection issues. Do not buy an adapter or replace a head unit on the assumption that it cures an Android OS defect. First establish that wired Android Auto works and that the existing receiver is not the failing component.
