The standard Samsung Galaxy S10 measures 149.9 × 70.4 × 7.8 mm (about 5.90 × 2.77 × 0.31 inches) and weighs 157 g (5.54 oz). Its 6.1-inch, 19:9 curved display sits in a relatively slim, light body—but the phone is tall enough that many people will still need two hands for top-of-screen controls. In 2026, its comfortable design does not outweigh an important buying caveat: Samsung no longer lists the S10 among devices receiving regular security updates.

These are Samsung’s published body dimensions and weight; inch values are conversions from the metric figures. The 6.1-inch screen measurement is diagonal, taken across a full rectangle, so it does not represent the unobstructed display area. Rounded corners and the front-camera cutout reduce the visible area slightly. Samsung’s Galaxy S10 specifications and support page provide the manufacturer’s baseline.
What those measurements mean in your hand
Width matters for grip and thumb reach. At 70.4 mm, the S10 is relatively narrow for a 6.1-inch phone, so it can feel more manageable than the screen diagonal suggests. Its 149.9-mm height is the counterpoint: the top of the display, notification shade, and upper-corner controls are a long way from a thumb resting near the bottom.
- Scrolling and reading: Usually comfortable one-handed for users with average or larger hands, especially when content controls are near the bottom.
- Typing: The narrow body can make portrait typing feel less stretched than on wider phones. Reaching the top row or shifting to upper-screen controls may still be awkward.
- Top-of-screen tasks: Pulling down notifications or tapping a far corner often calls for a grip adjustment or a second hand.
- Weight: At 157 g, the bare handset is relatively light, which can reduce fatigue. Its glass construction and camera hardware can nevertheless make it feel slippery or unbalanced in some grips.
Samsung marketed the design as comfortable for one-handed use, and contemporary coverage noted that its narrow body and curved sides helped it feel smaller. Those are useful impressions, not a guarantee: hand size, finger length, case, grip, and tolerance for accidental touches all change the experience. A fair summary is that the S10’s width helps one-handed handling, but its height prevents reliably reaching everything with one thumb.

Why a 6.1-inch screen does not make it especially wide
The S10’s 19:9 screen is tall rather than broad. That shape provides room for webpages, messages, feeds, and documents while keeping the phone narrower than many devices with a similarly large display. It can make portrait reading and scrolling feel natural, but it does not shrink the distance to the top edge. Screen shape and physical reachability are different things.
Video is another trade-off: much filmed content uses a different aspect ratio, so black bars may appear when it is shown without cropping. The camera cutout occupies a small part of the upper display, and the rounded corners mean the advertised diagonal is not a simple measure of usable rectangular space.
Galaxy S10 vs. S10e, S10+, and S10 5G
“Galaxy S10” can refer loosely to a family, but these models are not the same size. The figures below distinguish the standard S10 named here from its siblings.

The S10 is about 7.7 mm taller, just 0.5 mm wider, and 7 g heavier than the S10e. That is a useful distinction: the standard S10 adds height and display area without becoming much wider. The S10e is the more compact choice, with a flat screen and a fingerprint reader on the side-mounted power button. The S10+ adds roughly 7.7 mm of height and 3.7 mm of width over the S10, as well as more weight; it suits readers who value screen area more than reachability. The curved display: narrower feel, real compromises
The curved sides visually soften the S10’s profile and reduce the impression of a wide bezel. They also give the phone its distinctive edge-to-edge look. But curved glass is not an ergonomic win for everyone:
- Reflections and glare can be more noticeable along the edges, and text near the extreme sides may appear distorted.
- Depending on how you hold it, your palm or fingers may trigger unwanted touches. A case can help protect the sides, though a thick or poorly shaped one can interfere with edge gestures.
- Screen protectors are more complicated to fit than on a flat display.
- A damaged curved panel can be costly to replace relative to the value of an older used phone. A third-party replacement may not match the original display’s brightness, touch behavior, or fingerprint performance.
The S10 uses an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader. If buying a used unit, test it with the fitted screen protector and inspect the display for cracks or signs of replacement; a protector or damaged glass can affect reliability.
Case thickness can change the answer
The dimensions above describe the phone, not the phone you will carry. A protective case adds width and thickness—sometimes enough to erase much of the S10’s slim-handset advantage. Texture, raised edges, corner shape, and grip matter too. A grippy case can make one-handed use safer, particularly in transit, while a bulky case may make the phone harder to hold and less comfortable for edge gestures. Screen-protector edges can also change how curved-screen touches feel.
Perceived size depends on more than the bare body: hand size and finger length, portrait versus landscape use, camera-module weight distribution, gesture navigation, font size, display scaling, and whether you use one-handed mode all play a part. The same handset may feel easy to carry but difficult to operate at the top of the screen.

How to compare the S10 with your current phone
- Remove the case and any attached accessories from your current phone.
- Measure its longest point for height and its widest point for width. A ruler is sufficient for a rough comparison; digital calipers are more precise.
- Measure the main body thickness rather than the curved glass edge. If you want to compare camera protrusion, record that separately.
- Compare the numbers with the S10’s 149.9 × 70.4 × 7.8 mm body, then account for the case you expect to use.
- Try reaching the top corners on your current phone while holding it naturally. If that already requires shifting your grip, the S10’s 149.9-mm height is unlikely to solve the problem.
For a precise comparison, record whether your measurements include a case or camera bump, and compare like with like. Samsung’s published figures are the appropriate baseline rather than measurements taken across a case or screen protector.
Is the Galaxy S10 a sensible buy in 2026?
For physical comfort, the design remains appealing: the S10 is slim, light, and relatively narrow for its screen size. Its original specifications also include a 3.5-mm headphone jack, microSD support (up to 512 GB, subject to market and configuration), wireless charging, Samsung DeX, and an original IP68 rating. These features can matter to someone seeking a low-cost secondary or enthusiast phone.
But the S10 launched in 2019, and its age matters more than its dimensions for a main device. Samsung’s current security-update scope does not list the Galaxy S10 among models receiving regular updates. Do not assume that newer Samsung support policies apply retroactively, or confuse continued app availability with ongoing operating-system and device-security support. For banking, work, authentication, or other sensitive use, an unsupported phone is a significant drawback.

The original battery specification is 3,400 mAh typical, but that does not tell you the health of a used battery; a refurbished handset may have substantially reduced capacity unless replacement or a minimum health level is explicitly guaranteed. Although the model originally carried an IP68 rating, a used phone—especially one that has been opened or repaired—should not be assumed to retain factory water resistance.
Check the exact model number against your carrier before buying. Regional Snapdragon and Exynos variants, network bands, carrier certification, SIM configuration, and eSIM behavior can differ. Also verify unlocked status, storage capacity, repair history, screen and fingerprint-reader function, USB-C port condition, battery terms, warranty, and return window. A listing that says “unlocked compatible” is not a substitute for confirming support on your network.

- It may suit you if you want a slim, relatively light 6.1-inch handset; value features such as the headphone jack or microSD slot; and accept the security-support limitation. Treat it as a low-cost secondary, basic, or enthusiast device, and buy only after checking battery, carrier, and repair condition.
- Look elsewhere if you need regular security updates, dependable long-term battery life, 5G, a current warranty or easy official repair, or a phone for sensitive work and banking. A newer refurbished Galaxy is generally the safer choice for support and longevity.
- Choose the S10e instead if width, flat glass, and easier one-handed handling are your priority. Choose the S10+ only if its larger display matters more than reach, weight, and pocketability.
