This guide covers the US-market Motorola Razr+ (2024), also sold internationally as the Razr 50 Ultra. Start with a restart, updates and Safe Mode; back up before considering a factory reset. If the inner screen, hinge or phone shows physical or liquid damage, stop troubleshooting and arrange service instead. This is the Plus model, not the Razr (2024), Razr+ (2023) or a newer generation.
Identify the likely cause first
Note when the problem began, whether the phone was dropped or exposed to liquid, which display is affected, and whether the device still rings or vibrates. That helps distinguish software from display or other hardware trouble.
| Symptom | Likely area | First step |
|---|---|---|
| One app crashes, or the phone slows after installing an app | App or software | Update the app; test in Safe Mode. |
| Battery drains quickly | Apps, signal, settings, heat or battery | Check battery usage and test in Safe Mode. |
| Phone will not turn on | Battery, charger, port, system lockup or hardware | Charge safely, then force-restart. |
| Repeated restarts | App, update, overheating or hardware | Test in Safe Mode; seek service if it continues. |
| Wi-Fi or Bluetooth fails | Settings, software, network or hardware | Reconnect or re-pair; test another network or accessory. |
| Inner screen has lines, flickers, loses touch or bulges | Display, protector, hinge or hardware | Do not press or peel it; document the issue and seek repair. |
| Outer display is black or unresponsive | Temporary software fault or display hardware | Force-restart; check whether the phone still rings or vibrates. |
| Phone got wet | Liquid exposure | Power down, dry externally and do not charge it. |
| Hinge will not move normally | Obstruction or hinge/display damage | Do not force it; arrange an inspection. |
Motorola lists crashing apps, unexpected reboots and rapid battery drain among symptoms that can be caused by downloaded apps. Its Razr troubleshooting guide recommends Safe Mode as a diagnostic step.
Try the safest fixes first
Restart or force-restart
Use the power menu and select Restart if the phone responds. If it is frozen, hold the power button for about 20–30 seconds to force a restart, as described in Motorola’s Razr+ (2024) user guide. A force restart normally does not erase personal data; it is not the same as a recovery-mode factory reset.

- Verizon Unlocked Model. Will work with Most GSM and CDMA SIM card carriers in the U.S. and world including T-Mobile, Metro, Verizon, Straight Talk, Etc.
Do not repeatedly restart a phone that is wet, swollen, unusually hot, physically damaged or giving off a burning smell. Power it down if safe and contact service.
Install available updates
Check Settings > System > Software updates; wording can differ by software build. Use a stable Wi-Fi connection and adequate battery, and back up important data. Keep the software build number if reporting a fault. Update timing can vary between unlocked and carrier models; Motorola’s device security-update page notes that cycles may vary, including by carrier.
Check accessories and remove a case temporarily
A case can interfere with outer-display touch, gestures, buttons, hinge movement, closure or wireless charging. Remove it temporarily to test those symptoms. Do not remove the factory-installed protector from the inner display.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse Safe Mode to check for a troublesome app
- Open the power menu. If needed, press and hold the power and volume-up buttons together to bring it up.
- Touch and hold Power off.
- Select OK to restart in Safe Mode. The words Safe mode appear on the Home screen.
- Use the phone long enough to see whether the problem recurs.
- If it stops, restart normally and uninstall recently downloaded or updated apps one at a time.
Safe Mode disables downloaded apps and some widgets. If the fault persists, a third-party app is less likely to be responsible, but a short test cannot rule out intermittent display, hinge, camera or network trouble.
Fix app crashes, freezing and slow performance
- Update the affected app in Google Play, then force-stop and reopen it.
- Check available storage and restart the phone.
- Clear the app’s cache if appropriate. Clearing app data is more destructive: it may remove logins, downloads, drafts or saved settings.
- Test in Safe Mode. If the issue disappears, remove recent apps individually.
- If only one app fails, reinstall it after confirming its important data is backed up or synced.
- Consider a factory reset only after backing up and exhausting less destructive steps.
If several unrelated apps and system functions fail, record what changed just before the issue began—such as an app installation, update, drop or liquid exposure. A reset can address software conflicts, not a broken display, hinge, port or other hardware fault.
When the phone will not turn on or keeps restarting
- Connect it to a known-good wall charger and cable, and try another outlet.
- If the battery may be deeply discharged, leave it connected for a while before testing again.
- Check the USB-C port visually for lint, corrosion, bent contacts or moisture. Do not scrape it with metal or force anything into it.
- While connected to power, try the force-restart procedure above.
- If the phone makes sounds, vibrates or rings but shows no image, treat it as a possible display fault rather than assuming the whole phone is dead.
Motorola recommends a 68W-or-higher USB-C Power Delivery charger and Motorola PD cable for fastest charging; its guide also describes a Motorola 33W USB-A Quick Charge setup. Compatible alternatives may charge more slowly. Never connect a wet phone to power.

Resolve charging trouble and overheating
Phone does not charge or charging stops
- Test the outlet, charger and cable separately, and look for visible damage.
- Check for a moisture warning. If the phone or port may be wet, leave it unplugged until completely dry.
- Remove a thick case temporarily if heat buildup is suspected.
- If charging starts but slows or pauses near a high battery level, temperature or battery-protection behavior may be involved rather than a defect.
- Restart after these checks if the phone is dry and otherwise safe to use. Motorola’s charging guidance also advises checking the outlet and connectors.
Fast-charging behavior depends on the charger and cable, battery level, temperature and what the phone is doing. The phone may reduce charging speed when hot or near full.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Phone gets unusually hot
- Pause gaming, video recording, navigation or hotspot use.
- Move it out of direct sunlight and remove the case temporarily.
- Check battery usage for an app consuming power, then restart and test in Safe Mode.
- Seek service for persistent severe heat, swelling, a burning smell or repeated thermal shutdowns.
Do not put the phone in a freezer or refrigerator, and do not open the battery. Battery life and heat vary with reception, settings, temperature, network and usage; Motorola’s product information does not make a particular runtime a guarantee for every owner.
Track down rapid battery drain
- Open battery settings and identify which apps use the most power.
- Consider whether weak cellular reception, hotspot or GPS use, high brightness, 5G or frequent outer-display activity explains the drain.
- Install app and system updates, then restart.
- Test in Safe Mode. If drain improves, uninstall recently added or updated apps one at a time.
- Use battery-saver options temporarily while isolating the cause.
- If drain remains extreme in Safe Mode or after a clean reset, request service.
Troubleshoot Wi-Fi, mobile data, Bluetooth and SIM issues
Wi-Fi
- Toggle Wi-Fi off and on, then restart the phone and router.
- Forget the network and reconnect; test another network if available.
- Compare another device on the same router. If both fail, the router or internet service may be responsible.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or private-DNS tool, then test in Safe Mode.
- Use a network reset only after recording saved Wi-Fi passwords.
Mobile data and calls
- Confirm Airplane mode is off, the SIM or eSIM is active, and the location has coverage.
- Restart and install available system or carrier updates.
- Check compatibility for the exact model and carrier using Motorola’s carrier compatibility page.
- Ask the carrier to check outages, account provisioning and activation before treating a network problem as a phone defect.
Bluetooth
- Remove the accessory from the phone’s Bluetooth settings and put the accessory into pairing mode.
- Pair again, then test with a second accessory if possible.
- Temporarily move other nearby Bluetooth devices away and update both devices.
A factory reset cannot resolve a carrier outage, account-provisioning problem or SIM restriction. Erasing an eSIM deletes its profile and can require carrier reactivation; do not erase it unless you have confirmed how to get a replacement activation code or transfer.
Deal with outer-display problems
If the outer screen is black, unresponsive or not showing notifications correctly, restart or force-restart first, then check external-display settings and permitted apps and install available updates. Remove a case or protector that covers the outer screen and test whether the inner display works.
Note whether the phone still rings, vibrates or responds to voice commands. If it functions audibly but the outer screen remains black after software checks, the display, its connection or hinge-related hardware may need inspection. Do not assume every black-screen symptom is a software bug.

- All-day battery life**. Go a full day and night with a 4200mAh battery, fuel up fast with TurboPower 30W charging, and charge wirelessly.**
Motorola’s display-lines guidance includes updates, Safe Mode and reset troubleshooting for some software-related cases; persistent lines may need repair. A reset can help distinguish software causes but cannot repair physical display or hinge damage.
- Do not peel or replace the factory-installed inner protector yourself.
- Do not put a third-party protector on the inner display. Motorola warns it may reduce touch sensitivity, make the screen unresponsive, damage the display and affect warranty evaluation; see its Razr practical guide.
- Do not force the hinge flat or insert a card, coin or tool between the screens.
- Do not use heat, solvents, adhesive or compressed air near the fold.
- Stop folding the phone if the screen is separating, cracked or developing a raised area.
Handle hinge, dust and debris carefully
Keep grit and pocket debris away from the hinge and screen. Motorola warns that cards, coins, keys and other debris can damage the display or prevent the phone from closing properly. Do not force an obstructed hinge or spray cleaner into it; clean only the exterior with a gentle method approved by Motorola.
Grinding or clicking that is new, looseness, an abnormal stopping angle, or a display that changes as the phone folds calls for professional inspection rather than repeated opening and closing.
What to do after water or liquid exposure
- Remove the phone from the liquid and power it down if possible.
- Wipe the exterior and ports with a soft, clean cloth and let it dry.
- Do not charge it while wet. Avoid pressurized water and do not use heat to speed drying.
- Contact service if it does not work normally afterward.
The Razr+ (2024) has an IPX8 rating based on controlled testing in still, fresh water up to 1.5 metres deep for up to 30 minutes. That does not make it waterproof or dustproof, or suitable for intentional submersion, pools, beaches, showers, salt water, coffee, soap or alcohol. Water resistance can decline with wear or physical damage. Motorola’s water-resistance information describes those limits; liquid damage is generally excluded from the standard warranty.

A factory reset is a last major software step, not a remedy for damage. Before resetting, back up photos, messages, files, authenticator codes and app data; confirm Google account credentials; record eSIM and carrier activation details; and make sure the phone has sufficient charge. The reset erases personal data and downloaded apps, and Google’s factory-reset protection may require the previously associated account.
For display-line troubleshooting, Motorola lists Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset); wording may vary by build. If Settings is unavailable, follow the current Motorola recovery instructions rather than improvising. Do not reset before documenting a possible warranty fault.

Motorola’s US Razr+ support page also directs users with software problems to its Software Fix tool. Check the tool’s current device compatibility, computer requirements and data-erasure behavior before using it. It is not a substitute for repair of liquid, physical, display or hinge damage.
Choose the right support route
- Carrier: coverage, outages, billing, carrier lock, SIM/eSIM activation and account provisioning.
- Motorola: device software, warranty evaluation, hardware repair and replacement options.
- Google: Google-account recovery, Play Store and Google services.
- Authorized repair provider: physical inspection and display or hinge service.
Motorola’s US support page describes a one-year standard warranty and says most repairs within that period may cost nothing, subject to evaluation and exclusions. Physical and liquid damage are generally excluded. The same page lists an approximate 3–5 business days for mail-in repair after Motorola receives and examines the device; shipping, authorization, parts and other delays can add time.
As of August 18, 2026, Motorola’s US Moto Care page advertises accidental-damage coverage from $9.99 per month or $99.99 for a fixed coverage period, with deductibles and plan terms. It says the US offering became available for purchase on April 2, 2026. Eligibility, enrollment timing, claim limits and deductibles depend on the device and plan; check the terms before relying on coverage.
For out-of-warranty repairs, request a quotation and compare it with a replacement device’s current price, any applicable deductible and remaining software-support period. Motorola points technically capable owners to iFixit’s Razr+ (2024) page for genuine parts and tools; the model is listed as XT2451-1, but repair-guide coverage is limited. Foldable display and hinge work is high-risk for inexperienced owners, and DIY work can affect warranty coverage.
If you mean carrier unlocking
This article’s fixes address phone problems, not carrier unlocking. A SIM/carrier lock is controlled by the carrier or seller under its eligibility rules; eSIM activation also requires carrier support. Network compatibility depends on the exact US model and supported bands. Check Motorola’s compatibility information, then ask the carrier about unlock eligibility. A screen lock is separate and requires the appropriate Google or Motorola account-recovery process.
