JBL Endurance Zone is JBL’s first open-ear sports headphone in the Endurance family. Announced in June 2025, it uses an external 18×11 mm driver, an over-ear hook and JBL OpenSound to let runners and other athletes hear nearby traffic, people and announcements. Its standout feature is PulseDry, an app-controlled driver vibration intended to help clear moisture after exercise or rinsing.
The earbuds are rated IP68, offer up to eight hours of playback (32 hours including the case), and support multipoint Bluetooth. JBL’s U.S. product page listed them at $179.95 when checked August 16, 2026. See the official JBL product page for current price and availability.
What the JBL Endurance Zone actually is
Endurance Zone is a pair of true-wireless, open-ear sport headphones rather than conventional sealed earbuds. The speaker sits outside the ear canal and aims sound toward it, so your ears are not blocked by silicone tips. JBL calls the system OpenSound.

“Open-ear” does not mean sound leakage is impossible. JBL describes the directional design as offering minimal leakage, not zero leakage. Test the volume in a quiet room or gym if privacy matters.

JBL’s “first” wording needs a distinction: Endurance Zone is the company’s first open-ear sports product in the Endurance range, but JBL had already released the open-sound Soundgear Sense in 2023 (background on JBL’s earlier product).
Why runners may prefer open-ear listening
With no ear-canal seal, you can more easily hear cyclists, vehicles, pedestrians, training partners, gym instructions and public-address announcements. The design can also feel less pressurized for people who dislike ear tips.
That is an awareness benefit, not a safety guarantee. Wind, traffic and high volume can still mask important sounds. Choose an appropriate route, look before crossing, obey traffic rules and lower the volume when conditions become difficult.

PulseDry is activated through the JBL Headphones app. JBL says it uses a pulse-like vibration from the driver to help clear remaining moisture after a workout or rinse.
It should be treated as an aid, not sterilization or a guarantee against water damage. After exercising, wipe and air-dry the earbuds, inspect the charging contacts and only then put them in the case. Do not charge wet earbuds. App menus and firmware can change, so check the current app version before following any precise button-by-button guide.
IP68 and workout durability
The earbuds carry an IP68 water-and-dust rating. JBL says they are designed for sweat, rain, salt water and sand and can be rinsed after workouts. IP ratings describe defined test conditions; they do not make unlimited exposure to salt, chlorine, sunscreen or residue harmless.

The available JBL specifications identify the earbuds as IP68. Do not assume the charging case has the same protection. Keep the case dry, and never store wet earbuds inside it.
Fit: a hook helps, but ears differ
Each earbud uses a flexible liquid-silicone ear hook, adaptable memory wire and a split-body construction intended to reduce weight and improve stability. The case also has a lanyard hole.
- Walk and jog before committing to a long run.
- Check for rubbing against glasses, helmets, masks or hair.
- Turn your head, sprint and perform bodyweight movements to test retention.
- Make sure the driver stays aligned with the ear.
- Do not compensate for a loose fit by turning up the volume.
Open-ear fit is highly ear-shape-dependent. A secure hook improves the odds of stability but cannot guarantee comfort for every runner.
Audio and calls
The 18×11 mm dynamic driver covers a stated 20 Hz–20 kHz response. JBL also lists Adaptive Bass Boost, which adjusts bass according to listening volume, and directional sound intended to reduce leakage. In practice, open-ear audio will not deliver the isolation or perceived bass impact of sealed in-ear earbuds, especially beside a loud road or in a crowded gym.
Four microphones—dual beamforming microphones on each earbud—handle calls. Bluetooth 5.3, multipoint for up to two devices, Google Fast Pair, Google Finder and Google Audio Switch are supported. Wind and traffic can still challenge any microphone system, so do not interpret JBL’s call-quality claims as a promise of perfect outdoor conversations.

These are maximum manufacturer ratings; volume, calls, Bluetooth behavior, temperature and feature use affect real results. JBL’s U.S. page says a USB-C cable is not included (specification sheet).

App controls and specifications
The JBL Headphones app provides a 10-band equalizer, customizable touch controls and PulseDry activation. The earbuds weigh 10 g, while the case weighs 67.3 g. Impedance is listed as 32 ohms and sensitivity as 105 dB at 1 kHz/1 mW. App labels and feature availability may change with updates.
Price, launch history and colors
JBL announced Endurance Zone on June 24, 2025, with initial European pricing of €129.99 and availability from July 2025. Launch materials listed Black/Gray, Black/Lime, Purple/Grape, Blue/White and White/Orange. Those are historical regional figures, not a conversion of the current U.S. price.
The U.S. JBL listing showed $179.95 on August 16, 2026. Price, stock and color selection are market- and date-specific; check JBL’s listing before buying.

- Road runners, hikers and walkers: The open design is useful when hearing surroundings is a priority.
- Gym and treadmill users: You can hear coaches, colleagues and announcements without removing an earbud.
- Rainy, dusty or sweaty workouts: IP68 earbuds and PulseDry provide a stronger moisture-management story than ordinary sports earbuds, provided you still dry them properly.
- People who dislike ear tips: The hook avoids an ear-canal seal, though the hook itself may not suit every ear.
They are a weaker choice for flights, commuting in very loud environments or listeners who want active noise cancellation, strong passive isolation and maximum bass immersion. Open-ear output may also be less intelligible when wind and traffic dominate.

Endurance Pace was listed around $89.95 in JBL’s U.S. catalog and uses a flexible titanium memory-wire neckband. It suits buyers seeking a cheaper open-ear format who do not need a charging-case true-wireless design or PulseDry.
Endurance Peak 4 (catalog price observed at $129.95) is a conventional in-ear sports model with Pure Bass, Spatial Sound, Adaptive Noise Cancelling and Smart Ambient. It is the more logical choice for isolation and traditional earbud sound, not unobstructed awareness.

Endurance Peak 3 is another conventional, ear-hook sports earbud, listed at $109.95 (with a lower sale price shown in the catalog at the time checked). It favors price and retention over an open-ear presentation.

Bottom line
Endurance Zone’s case for runners is straightforward: hear more of your environment while wearing a secure, highly water- and dust-resistant open-ear headphone. PulseDry is a thoughtful moisture-clearing feature, but it complements—not replaces—cleaning and drying. At $179.95 in the U.S. when checked, it makes the most sense for athletes who value awareness, multipoint and rugged sports hardware more than ANC, sealed-ear bass or the lowest possible price.
