Samsung’s rumored lower-priced flip phone did launch in 2025, but its official name is Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, not Galaxy Z Flip FE. Samsung announced it on July 9, 2025; U.S. sales began July 25. Its U.S. unlocked launch prices were $899.99 for 128GB and $999.99 for 256GB. Those are historical launch prices, not a guarantee of today’s price or stock.
From rumor to official phone
Before launch, reports commonly called Samsung’s expected device the “Galaxy Z Flip FE” or “Galaxy Z Flip7 FE.” Samsung confirmed the latter name at Galaxy Unpacked in New York on July 9, 2025. The FE suffix stands for Fan Edition and signals a lower-priced way into the Galaxy Z Flip range, with compromises compared with the premium model. Samsung’s launch announcement positioned the phone as a way to bring the foldable experience to more people.
Release date and U.S. launch price
Samsung opened U.S. preorders on July 9, 2025, and general availability began July 25. Dates and availability differed by market, so those dates should not be read as a global release schedule.

These figures are Samsung U.S. launch prices, before applicable taxes and shipping. Current prices, carrier deals, trade-in credits, stock, and regional configurations can change. Check Samsung’s U.S. product page for current listings. At $899.99, the FE was less expensive than the standard Flip7, but it was still a premium-priced phone—not a budget handset in the wider smartphone market.

Samsung also advertised peak main-display brightness of up to 2,600 nits and features such as FlexCam-style hands-free photography and Galaxy AI. Those are manufacturer specifications and feature claims, not independent measurements of brightness, camera quality, battery life, or performance. AI availability can depend on region, language, account, connection, software version, and—in some cases—subscription terms. A launch promotion for six months of expanded Google AI Pro access was time-limited and should not be treated as a permanent ownership benefit.
Samsung says Galaxy Z Flip6 cases are compatible with the FE, but check fit and model compatibility for any third-party accessory. The U.S. buying page says the charger plug is not included, so buyers without a suitable USB-C charger may need to obtain one separately.

The FE is not simply a cheaper storage option for the same phone: its processor, cover-screen experience, and battery capacity differ. Samsung’s comparison and support material lists the FE’s Exynos 2400. Processor names alone do not establish how a phone performs in every real-world task, but buyers who game heavily or run demanding workloads should weigh the premium model’s newer hardware rather than assume the FE delivers the same performance.
Is the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE worth considering?
It makes the most sense if you specifically want a Samsung flip-foldable and would rather pay less than step up to the standard Flip7. It may suit a Samsung ecosystem user, someone who values a compact folded phone, or a first-time foldable buyer who is comfortable giving up some premium features. Compare the final price after eligible promotions, not just the original list prices.

The standard Flip7 is the more compelling choice if you expect to use the cover display frequently, want the larger battery, or prefer the newer processor. A discounted older Galaxy Z Flip could offer better value if you accept older hardware and a potentially shorter remaining software-support period. Check the exact model, support terms, and condition before buying one.
If you do not care about a phone folding in half, compare conventional phones at the same final price. A slab-style phone avoids foldable-specific hinge and screen repair considerations and may better suit buyers who prioritize battery life, camera versatility, or value over pocketability and Flex Mode.

- Storage: The 128GB version costs less, but can become restrictive if you keep many games, videos, or offline files. The launch-price difference to 256GB was $100.
- Foldable care: A folding screen and hinge add complexity compared with a conventional phone. Consider local repair availability, warranty terms, and whether insurance makes sense for your use; protection plans, deductibles, enrollment windows, and prices vary.
- Water and dust: Samsung specifies protection for the device, but water resistance is not waterproofing and does not mean every kind of liquid exposure is safe. Do not assume the phone is dustproof or suitable for submersion; check the current regional specifications and warranty terms.
- Promotions and availability: Trade-in values and carrier offers are conditional and can change. A temporary discount should not be confused with the original unlocked price, and availability may vary by storage, retailer, and market.
- AI features: Check which features work in your language and region and whether they require an account, internet access, or a paid plan after any trial.
