Intel’s Wi-Fi driver 23.100.0, released in December 2024, introduced documented improvements for Wi-Fi sensing and updates for 6-GHz capabilities on Windows 11. However, “faster Wi-Fi sensing” does not mean a guaranteed increase in internet speed, download performance, or latency.
For users considering an update today, the more important question is whether the adapter, Windows version, router, and laptop manufacturer support the feature you need. Intel’s U.S. support materials listed package 24.50.0 as the latest package as of August 18, 2026, while some regional Intel pages show different package numbers.

What Intel actually changed
Intel’s 23.100.0 release notes list “improvements for Wi-Fi sensing” for Windows 10 and Windows 11. They also mention updates for 6-GHz capabilities on Windows 11, along with functional and security updates.
Intel did not publish a universal measurement showing that Wi-Fi sensing became a specific percentage faster. A contemporaneous Windows Latest report observed networks appearing more quickly on one Spectre laptop, but that is an individual observation rather than a performance guarantee for every supported computer.

Wi-Fi sensing is not the same as faster internet
Wi-Fi sensing uses radio signals and software to infer information about the surrounding environment or a person’s presence. Depending on the hardware and software implementation, it may support proximity detection, presence detection, wake-on-approach, or walk-away locking.
That is different from:
- Network discovery: finding nearby Wi-Fi networks and displaying their names in Windows.
- Throughput: the amount of data transferred per second.
- Roaming: switching between access points, usually in a home, office, or campus with multiple access points.
Intel’s release notes do not identify a particular sensing algorithm or promise a specific detection-time improvement. An updated driver may also improve how quickly Windows refreshes its network list, but that does not prove that internet service has become faster.
What Windows 11 24H2 has to do with Wi-Fi 7
Windows 11 24H2 is important mainly because it provides the operating-system support for relevant Wi-Fi 7 features. Microsoft identifies Wi-Fi 7, also known as IEEE 802.11be or EHT, as a feature of Windows 11 24H2. Intel likewise states that Wi-Fi 7 features become available beginning with Windows 11 24H2.

This does not mean driver 23.100.0 “adds Windows 11 24H2.” Windows 11 24H2 is an operating-system release; the Intel driver helps compatible wireless hardware work with the features exposed by that release.
A complete Wi-Fi 7 setup requires all of the following:
- A compatible Intel Wi-Fi 7 adapter.
- Windows 11 24H2 or newer for the relevant Wi-Fi 7 functionality.
- A Wi-Fi 7 router or access point.
- Compatible router firmware, regional regulatory support, and suitable 6-GHz availability.
Installing a newer driver on an Intel AX201, AX210, or Wireless-AC adapter does not turn that hardware into Wi-Fi 7 equipment. Windows 10 can run supported Intel wireless packages, but its Wi-Fi 7 functionality is limited.

Check the exact adapter name rather than assuming that every Intel wireless device receives the same package. Intel’s newer consolidated packages also exclude some discontinued products; AX200, for example, is not included in the main package from release 24.30.1 onward according to Intel’s download information.

Later releases changed the picture
The Wi-Fi sensing announcement originally concerned package 23.100.0, but it is not the current U.S. driver story:
- 23.100.0 — December 2024: Wi-Fi sensing improvements and Windows 11 6-GHz capability updates.
- 23.170.0 — October 2025: validation for Windows 11 25H2 Wi-Fi features, plus Wi-Fi 7 enterprise-access-point and native Wi-Fi sensing support. See the release notes.
- 24.20.0 — February 2026: an Advanced setting for using channel load when selecting an access point during roaming, improved reliability and connectivity, and enhanced Wi-Fi sensing. See the release notes.
- 24.50.0: listed as the latest package on Intel’s U.S. support materials as of August 18, 2026. See Intel’s support catalog and release notes.
Intel’s localized pages may not show identical packages. For example, Intel Japan currently displays package 24.60.0. Use the Intel page for your market and verify the package against your adapter model before installing.
Should you install the driver?
Install or test the update when:
- Your exact adapter is supported.
- You need Wi-Fi 7 or 6-GHz functionality on Windows 11 24H2 or newer.
- You are experiencing wireless-discovery, connection-stability, or roaming problems.
- The release addresses an issue relevant to your hardware.
Prefer the laptop manufacturer’s driver when:
- The manufacturer supplies a customized wireless package.
- Your system depends on vendor-specific power management, antenna tuning, hotkeys, or sensing software.
- The computer is business-critical or managed by an IT department.
- Your current connection is stable and the Intel package offers no relevant fix.
A roaming channel-load option may help a device choose a less-congested access point in some multi-access-point environments. It is not a guaranteed speed boost, and the setting may not appear on every adapter or OEM driver image.

How to install and verify it safely
- Right-click Start, open Device Manager, expand Network adapters, and note the exact Intel wireless-adapter model.
- Check the computer manufacturer’s support page first, especially for a laptop, prebuilt desktop, or business PC.
- Use Intel’s Driver & Support Assistant, which Intel recommends, or download the correct manual 64-bit package from Intel’s wireless-driver page.
- Create a restore point or record the current driver version before installation.
- Install the package and restart Windows if prompted.
- Verify it under Device Manager → Network adapters → Intel wireless adapter → Properties → Driver.
- Test Wi-Fi discovery, reconnecting, roaming, Bluetooth coexistence, VPN connections, sleep/wake behavior, and any OEM presence feature.
If the update causes problems, open the adapter’s Properties → Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver when available. Otherwise reinstall the OEM driver or the previously saved Intel package. If the adapter disappears, use Windows System Restore or the manufacturer’s recovery process.
Important sensing and OEM limitations
A general Intel Wi-Fi driver update does not guarantee that a user-facing sensing switch or application will appear. Wi-Fi sensing can also depend on compatible firmware, Intel Context Sensing Technology components, the Windows build, an OEM service, and privacy policies.
ASUS says it discontinued Intel Wi-Fi Proximity Sensing on applicable NUC systems because of lifecycle and compatibility concerns. Its support notice also says recent Intel Context Sensing Technology drivers may disable Wi-Fi sensing by default. This illustrates why a vendor-specific sensing feature may not survive a driver or platform change even when general Wi-Fi connectivity continues to work.
Finally, do not expect the driver alone to overcome router limitations, interference, distance, antenna design, channel width, internet-service speed, or OEM firmware behavior. Intel has not published a universal percentage improvement for sensing speed, throughput, latency, or download performance.
