The message “This PC doesn’t meet Windows 11 system requirements” means Windows detected at least one eligibility issue—it does not necessarily mean your PC is too old or broken. First run Microsoft’s PC Health Check and identify the failed requirement. If the processor is supported, the common fixes are enabling TPM 2.0 (often called Intel PTT or AMD fTPM), using UEFI boot mode, and configuring Secure Boot. If the processor itself is unsupported, a firmware setting cannot make it officially eligible.
What the error means
This is a general eligibility warning, not one specific Windows error. It can appear in Windows Update, the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, Windows Setup from a USB or ISO, or PC Health Check. The cause may be a requirement that is genuinely absent, a supported feature that is disabled in firmware, or compatibility information that has not refreshed yet.
Start with diagnosis rather than registry edits or bypass tools. The right fix depends on the failed item, and changing boot or security settings without checking first can prevent Windows from starting or trigger a BitLocker recovery prompt.

Run PC Health Check
- Download and install PC Health Check from Microsoft.
- Open Start, search for PC Health Check, and launch it.
- In the Windows 11 eligibility section, select Check now, then review the failed requirement.
PC Health Check is the best first check for a consumer PC. Windows 11’s baseline includes a compatible 64-bit processor at 1 GHz or faster with at least two cores, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, UEFI firmware that is Secure Boot capable, TPM 2.0, DirectX 12-compatible graphics with a WDDM 2.0 driver, and a display larger than 9 inches with at least 720p resolution. Windows 11 Home and Windows 11 Pro for personal use also require an internet connection and Microsoft account during initial setup. See Microsoft’s full system requirements. Passing the RAM or storage minimum does not compensate for an unsupported processor, TPM, or firmware.

Check TPM in Windows
- Press Windows+R, type
tpm.msc, and press Enter. - Look for The TPM is ready for use and Specification Version: 2.0.
If Windows says it cannot find a compatible TPM, it may be disabled rather than absent. In firmware, it may be named Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT), AMD firmware TPM (fTPM), Security Device, Trusted Computing, or TPM Device. Microsoft’s device security guidance describes TPM 2.0 as the security processor.
Check UEFI and Secure Boot
- Press Windows+R, type
msinfo32, and press Enter. - In System Information, note BIOS Mode and Secure Boot State.
UEFI with Secure Boot On is the expected configuration. UEFI with Secure Boot Off may need a firmware change. Legacy or CSM means the PC is not currently booting in UEFI mode. Microsoft describes the upgrade requirement as UEFI firmware with Secure Boot capability; enabling Secure Boot is also recommended for security. See Windows 11 and Secure Boot.
Fix TPM 2.0 not found
- Save your work and restart the PC.
- Enter UEFI/BIOS setup during startup. The key varies by manufacturer; common keys are F2, Delete, F10, or Esc.
- Look under Security, Advanced, or Trusted Computing for TPM, Intel PTT, AMD fTPM, or Security Device Support. Enable the appropriate option.
- Save the change, restart Windows, and verify the result in
tpm.mscand PC Health Check.
Firmware menus differ by model, so use the PC or motherboard manufacturer’s instructions if the option is unclear. Do not choose “Clear TPM” as a routine fix. Clearing it can affect BitLocker, Windows Hello, certificates, and other security features. Before changing TPM or other firmware security settings, retrieve and verify your BitLocker or device-encryption recovery key. Read Microsoft’s device encryption guidance.

Fix Legacy BIOS or Secure Boot problems
Check the disk before switching to UEFI
Do not simply switch a Legacy/CSM installation to UEFI: Windows may stop booting if the system disk is still partitioned as MBR. First back up important files, confirm UEFI support, and check the Windows system disk’s partition style:

- Press Windows+X and open Disk Management.
- Right-click the disk that contains Windows (not just the C: partition) and select Properties > Volumes.
- Check Partition style. GPT is generally appropriate for UEFI; MBR needs additional care.
On supported Windows installations, Microsoft’s mbr2gpt.exe can convert a system disk from MBR to GPT. The commands below are for an elevated Command Prompt, but validation does not guarantee every disk layout or OEM setup will convert safely:
mbr2gpt /validate /allowFullOSOnly if validation succeeds and you have a verified backup and recovery plan, the conversion command is:
mbr2gpt /convert /allowFullOSAfter a successful conversion, restart into firmware and select UEFI boot mode. Disk layouts, recovery partitions, encryption, and manufacturer settings can complicate conversion; if the disk is encrypted or validation fails, stop and consult the PC manufacturer or a qualified technician rather than experimenting. Keep your BitLocker recovery key available.
Enable Secure Boot
If Windows is already using UEFI, you can usually reach firmware settings through Windows: open Settings > System > Recovery, select Restart now under Advanced startup, then choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart. In firmware, locate Secure Boot, enable it, save, and restart.

Secure Boot may be unavailable if the PC is in Legacy/CSM mode, CSM is enabled, or factory Secure Boot keys are not installed. Some systems also need a firmware update. Do not disable Secure Boot as a general compatibility fix; if you turn it off temporarily to troubleshoot, restore it afterward.
Update firmware, then recheck
A BIOS/UEFI update may fix TPM detection, CPU identification, or UEFI and Secure Boot behavior. Download firmware only from the exact PC or motherboard manufacturer support page. Confirm the full model and revision; never use a file for a similar-looking model, and do not interrupt power during an update. A failed or incorrect firmware flash can make a PC unbootable.
After a firmware change, restart Windows, install available Windows updates and manufacturer-provided drivers, then run PC Health Check again. Do not use paid driver-updater utilities to solve an eligibility warning.

A pass in PC Health Check and no offer in Windows Update do not necessarily conflict. Eligibility information can take up to 24 hours to refresh after hardware changes, and Microsoft may stage an upgrade or apply a temporary compatibility safeguard. - Restart the PC and install pending updates in Windows Update.
- Run PC Health Check again to confirm eligibility.
- Open Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates.
- After a hardware or firmware change, allow up to 24 hours for eligibility information to refresh.
If the device is eligible and Windows Update still has not offered the upgrade, Microsoft’s official installation options include the Installation Assistant. Back up first, keep a laptop plugged in, and ensure enough free storage. Booting from installation media is not a harmless shortcut: a fresh install can erase apps, files, and the drive.
If the processor is unsupported
Processor support depends on the exact model, not just labels such as “Core i7” or “Ryzen.” Check the precise CPU model against Microsoft’s supported processor information and your device manufacturer’s Windows 11 guidance. A BIOS update may correct a misidentified supported processor, but it cannot make a genuinely unsupported processor officially supported.
If the CPU is unsupported—or the PC genuinely lacks TPM 2.0, UEFI, or Secure Boot capability—there may be no supported settings-based fix. Your practical choices are replacing upgradeable components or the PC, choosing a supported operating system, or knowingly using an unsupported Windows 11 installation. If replacing hardware, consider the age and condition of the whole computer, not just one component.

Should you bypass Windows 11 requirements?
Registry changes, modified installation media, and third-party USB tools that remove checks are unsupported workarounds, not repairs. They do not add a TPM, Secure Boot capability, or CPU features. Unsupported devices may have compatibility, driver, servicing, or update problems, and update availability is not guaranteed. Microsoft’s installation guidance does not recommend installing Windows 11 on hardware that fails the requirements and says to roll back to Windows 10 if it was installed on unsupported hardware.

Do not use a bypass as the first step. If you are considering one despite the risks, make a full backup, verify that you can recover or reinstall, and understand that Microsoft may not support the installation or provide updates as expected. Avoid bypass tools on a PC used for sensitive work, banking, business, or critical data.
If Windows 11 is already installed and the warning appears
Find out what is installed before changing anything. Run winver to see the Windows edition, version, and OS build. Then check the exact CPU model, TPM version in tpm.msc, and BIOS Mode and Secure Boot State in msinfo32. A warning may reflect an unsupported installation, changed hardware or firmware, or a later update checking requirements differently. Use those details to identify the actual failure; do not assume the warning means a particular update has damaged the PC.
Windows 10 is no longer in standard support
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Windows 10 continues to run, but it is no longer an indefinitely supported fallback. If your computer cannot meet Windows 11 requirements, make a deliberate plan for supported hardware or an appropriate alternative rather than treating continued Windows 10 use as a permanent security solution.
