The Huawei P70 did arrive—but not under that name. Huawei rebranded its P-series flagship as the Pura 70, with the new lineup going on sale on April 18, 2024. The original March 2024 reports about an imminent P70 launch were based on leaks and rumors, so “lands very soon” is no longer an accurate description.
Here is what happened to the rumored P70, which models Huawei released, what the top-end Pura 70 Ultra actually contains, and why regional software and network support matter as much as the camera hardware.
The Huawei P70 became the Huawei Pura 70
Pre-launch coverage in March 2024 referred to Huawei’s next flagship phone as the P70. Reports pointed to a possible April pre-order window, unusual camera hardware, high-resolution LTPO displays, and a triangular camera island. Those details were leak-based rather than confirmed specifications.
Huawei subsequently changed the branding. The commercial successor to the expected P70 launched as the Huawei Pura 70 series. Huawei’s official introduction confirms the Pura name, while launch documentation records sales beginning on April 18, 2024.

That means the safest way to describe the situation is that the rumored P70 was not necessarily cancelled; it became the Pura 70. Readers searching for “Huawei P70” are generally looking for this 2024 product family.
The original March 2024 report should therefore be read as historical launch coverage, not as a current announcement.
Which phones are in the Pura 70 family?
The lineup was broader than a single P70 handset:
- Huawei Pura 70
- Huawei Pura 70 Pro
- Huawei Pura 70 Pro+
- Huawei Pura 70 Ultra
Not every market received every model. Huawei’s regional pages can differ in available configurations, storage, software, connectivity, and pricing, so a specification for one model should not automatically be applied to the entire series.

These should remain labeled as rumors or leaks. A leaked benchmark is not a confirmed performance result, and an expected camera layout is not proof of the final retail design. The eventual Pura 70 Ultra did deliver an ambitious camera system and a large display, but that does not make every earlier P70 claim accurate.

The Pura 70 Ultra is the most technically ambitious model in the family. Huawei’s Singapore specification page lists the following configuration:

Why the camera attracted so much attention

However, hardware alone does not prove that a phone is the best camera phone. Image processing, autofocus behavior, motion handling, color science, video quality, and consistency in difficult lighting all require independent testing. The mechanical pop-out design also raises practical questions about dust, impact, long-term reliability, and repair costs.

Software is a bigger buying issue than the name change
The Pura 70 Ultra is not simply an ordinary Android flagship with a different camera layout. The cited Singapore model runs EMUI 14.2, and services differ by market.
Before buying, check whether the specific regional version provides the apps and services you need. Important questions include:
- Are Google Mobile Services and the Google Play Store available?
- Will banking, payment, streaming, navigation, and enterprise apps work normally?
- Can required apps be installed through AppGallery, web apps, or sideloading?
- Does the local version support the buyer’s LTE and 5G bands?
- Will VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, NFC, eSIM, or satellite features work in that market?
- Does Huawei or the seller provide warranty and repair service locally?
These issues cannot be answered globally from one regional specification page. A phone officially sold in Singapore or Saudi Arabia is not automatically compatible with US carriers, US payment services, or local warranty arrangements.

US readers should not assume official US retail availability. Anyone considering an imported unit should verify carrier bands, VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling, app compatibility, warranty coverage, software region, charger standards, and the total landed cost before purchasing.
Who should consider the Pura 70 Ultra?
The phone makes the most sense for photography-focused buyers in markets where Huawei officially supports the model. Its one-inch main sensor, variable aperture, stabilized telephoto camera, high-end display, and substantial storage make it an interesting alternative to conventional flagship designs.
It may also suit existing Huawei users who already understand the company’s app ecosystem and have access to local support.
Who should skip it?
- Buyers who need guaranteed Google services and broad app compatibility
- US buyers seeking simple carrier activation and local warranty support
- Anyone unwilling to verify regional LTE, 5G, VoLTE, and Wi-Fi calling support
- Shoppers looking specifically for the newest 2026 flagship hardware
- Buyers who want a proven, easily repairable camera system without moving mechanical parts
A large sensor and premium price do not compensate for unsupported banking, streaming, navigation, workplace, or payment apps.

- Ask whether warranty and repairs are available in your country.

- Compare the complete imported cost with a locally supported flagship.
The bottom line on the Huawei P70
The original P70 story was a genuine March 2024 leak report, but its “launching soon” premise is now outdated. Huawei changed the branding to Pura 70, and the series launched on April 18, 2024.
The Pura 70 Ultra stands out for its one-inch pop-out main camera, variable aperture, LTPO display, and Kirin 9010 platform. Whether it is a good purchase depends less on the old P70 rumors and more on the buyer’s market: app support, network compatibility, warranty coverage, and local pricing are decisive.
In short, the Huawei P70 was not the name of the phone that ultimately reached stores. The flagship readers were waiting for became the Huawei Pura 70 series.
