The Sapphire Radeon RX 9070 leak was a useful early preview of AMD’s custom-card ecosystem, but it was never a substitute for final specifications. Pre-launch images and reports appeared to show Sapphire’s white, three-slot Pure design, while later official announcements confirmed that Sapphire would sell RX 9070 cards across its Nitro+, Pure, and Pulse families.

AMD subsequently confirmed the regular Radeon RX 9070’s core specifications: 56 compute units, 16GB of GDDR6 memory, a 256-bit memory bus, 64MB of Infinity Cache, a 2.1GHz game clock, boost speeds of up to 2.5GHz, 220W total board power, and a $549 U.S. suggested etail price at launch on February 28, 2025. The exact card to buy, however, depends on the Sapphire SKU, its dimensions, power requirements, price, and independent testing.

What the Sapphire RX 9070 leak showed

The leak was not a complete, final product review. It combined pre-launch imagery and reported specification information, giving readers an early look at Sapphire’s custom Radeon RX 9070 hardware before AMD had published the full product details.

Images circulated before launch appeared to show a white Sapphire card with a large cooler, three-fan styling, a backplate, and dual eight-pin power connectors. Pre-launch coverage also associated Sapphire’s Pure design with a three-slot form factor. VideoCardz reported that Sapphire’s Pure card had been displayed at CES 2025, while KitGuru separately reported early RX 9070 details including a claimed 2,520MHz boost clock and 220W TBP for the reference-class GPU.

Those details were directionally credible, but a photograph or retailer listing cannot establish final acoustics, temperatures, sustained clock speeds, gaming performance, availability, or street pricing. Board partners can change clocks, power limits, dimensions, connectors, and cooler specifications before retail release.

What was visible or reported?

Detail How to interpret it
White shroud and large cooler Appeared to be shown in pre-launch Sapphire Pure imagery.
Three-fan cooling Visually apparent in the reported Pure card photographs.
Three-slot construction Reported for the displayed Pure design and later consistent with Sapphire’s official Pure RX 9070 dimensions.
Dual eight-pin power Shown or reported for the Pure design; verify the final SKU page before purchase.
2,520MHz boost and 220W TBP Reported before launch and later broadly aligned with AMD’s official reference RX 9070 figures, but not proof of every Sapphire model’s specification.
Exact performance, noise, thermals, and retail price Not established by the leak.

The most important uncertainty was model identification. Early RX 9070 coverage could easily be confused with the more powerful RX 9070 XT, and “Sapphire RX 9070” does not describe one universal card. Nitro+, Pure, and Pulse products use different coolers, factory clocks, dimensions, and power targets.

AMD’s confirmed Radeon RX 9070 specifications

AMD officially announced the Radeon RX 9070 series on February 28, 2025. The official specifications—not the earlier leak—should be used as the baseline for understanding the GPU.

AMD’s February 28, 2025 announcement makes clear that the RX 9070 is not merely an RX 9070 XT with lower clocks. It has fewer compute units and a lower power envelope. Both cards have 16GB of GDDR6 memory and the same 256-bit interface, but the XT has 64 compute units, higher clocks, and substantially greater power consumption.

That distinction matters when interpreting the leak. An image or specification table associated with an RX 9070 cannot be used to predict RX 9070 XT performance, cooler requirements, or power behavior.

Sapphire’s official RX 9070 lineup

Sapphire officially announced RX 9070-series products in its Nitro+, Pure, and Pulse families. These are product tiers rather than guarantees of a particular price or performance level.

  • Nitro+: Sapphire’s premium design family, generally associated with a larger cooler, higher factory settings, more elaborate lighting, and more substantial construction. The exact Nitro+ RX 9070 clocks, dimensions, connectors, and power limits should be taken from the relevant regional SKU page.
  • Pure: A white-themed, performance-focused design that is typically larger than Pulse and aimed at buyers who want a distinctive appearance and a larger cooling solution.
  • Pulse: A more restrained black design that is generally shorter and less elaborate than Nitro+ or Pure, making the exact dimensions especially relevant for compact or crowded builds.

Sapphire’s official RX 9070-series announcement confirms the three families and their RDNA 4 positioning, but it should not be treated as a substitute for each model’s detailed specification page.

Boost clock Up to 2,520MHz
Interface PCIe 5.0 x16
Display outputs Two HDMI and two DisplayPort 2.1a
Dimensions 280 × 120.25 × 51.5mm

The official Sapphire Pulse RX 9070 specifications make it the more practical option of the two fully detailed models when a case has a strict length limit. At 280mm, it is 40mm shorter than the listed Pure RX 9070 OC, although its 51.5mm thickness still exceeds a conventional two-slot design.

Sapphire Pure Radeon RX 9070 OC

The Pure RX 9070 OC uses the same underlying 56-compute-unit RX 9070 GPU but raises the advertised factory clocks. Sapphire lists a game clock of up to 2,210MHz and a boost clock of up to 2,700MHz.

Pure RX 9070 OC specification Official listing
Memory 16GB GDDR6, 20Gbps effective
Memory interface 256-bit
Game clock Up to 2,210MHz

Typical board power 245W
Power connectors Two eight-pin connectors
Recommended minimum PSU 650W
Dimensions 320 × 120.25 × 61.6mm
Display outputs Two HDMI and two DisplayPort 2.1a

The official Pure RX 9070 OC page lists it as a three-slot-class card measuring 320mm long and 61.6mm thick. That difference is substantial in a real system: the Pure can conflict with a front-mounted radiator, drive cage, bottom intake fans, or an adjacent PCIe expansion card where the shorter Pulse may fit.

Pulse versus Pure: which design makes more sense?

Priority Better starting point Reason
Shorter card Pulse 280mm long versus 320mm for the listed Pure OC.
White-themed build Pure Its white design is the defining visual characteristic.
Higher advertised factory clock Pure OC Up to 2,700MHz boost versus 2,520MHz for Pulse.
Lower board power Pulse, subject to the exact SKU The Pure page lists 245W typical board power; the Pulse page’s listed clocks and dimensions should not be treated as proof of identical power behavior.
Compact or crowded case Pulse The Pure’s 320mm length and 61.6mm thickness demand more clearance.
Premium materials or lighting Nitro+ or Pure Verify the individual model’s features and price rather than assuming every regional SKU is identical.

A higher advertised boost clock is not a guaranteed sustained gaming clock. Actual frequency depends on temperature, workload, power limits, driver behavior, silicon variation, and case airflow. The Pure’s 2,700MHz figure and Pulse’s 2,520MHz figure are maximum advertised frequencies, not promises that either card will remain at those speeds in every game.

Power-supply and connector considerations

AMD’s reference RX 9070 specification is 220W TBP, while Sapphire lists 245W typical board power for the Pure RX 9070 OC and recommends a 650W minimum power supply. These figures are not interchangeable:

  • TBP: AMD’s reference power figure for the GPU class.
  • Typical board power: A board-partner specification that can increase with factory overclocking and a more permissive power target.
  • Recommended system PSU: The manufacturer’s guidance for the complete PC, including the CPU and other components.

The Pure page lists two eight-pin connectors. Do not identify connectors solely from a leaked photograph: check the exact regional product page and use separate, properly connected PCIe power cables where the power-supply manufacturer recommends them. Also account for CPU power consumption, transient behavior, PSU age, and available cable space.

What the leak could not tell buyers

The leak was useful for identifying a design direction, but it could not reliably establish:

  • Final retail or street price;
  • Launch stock or regional availability;
  • Sustained gaming clocks;
  • Gaming performance or ray-tracing performance;
  • Noise levels and fan-stop behavior;
  • GPU and memory temperatures;
  • Coil whine;
  • BIOS behavior and power-limit options;
  • Driver maturity;
  • Long-term reliability or warranty experience.

Retailer listings are particularly easy to misread before launch. They may contain placeholder clocks, incorrect dimensions, a stock image for a different SKU, or an RX 9070 XT specification attached to an RX 9070 name. “OC” may also appear in one regional product name and not another even when the underlying design is similar.

How to evaluate a Sapphire RX 9070 now

  1. Confirm the exact GPU and SKU. Check whether the listing is for RX 9070 or RX 9070 XT and whether it is Pulse, Pure, Nitro+, or an “OC” variant.
  2. Measure the case. Compare the card’s full length, height, thickness, and power-cable clearance with the case manufacturer’s limits. For the listed models, allow for 280mm and 51.5mm for Pulse or 320mm and 61.6mm for Pure, plus room for cables and airflow.
  3. Check slot spacing. A three-slot-class card can block neighboring PCIe slots even when it physically fits.
  4. Verify power requirements. Compare the card’s connector arrangement and board power with the PSU’s available PCIe outputs, wattage, age, and quality.
  5. Compare the current price. AMD’s $549 U.S. suggested etail price was the launch figure from February 28, 2025, not a guaranteed current retail price.
  6. Read independent testing. Use measured noise, temperatures, sustained clocks, and gaming results rather than assuming that a higher factory boost rating guarantees a large performance gain.
  7. Check regional support terms. Warranty coverage, seller authorization, returns, bundled accessories, and exact model names can vary by country.

Does the leak still matter?

Yes, but mainly as historical context. It correctly pointed toward Sapphire’s custom RX 9070 hardware and helped reveal the company’s visual and cooling strategy before launch. It is also a reminder that multiple Sapphire cards would exist rather than one generic “Sapphire RX 9070.”

For a purchase decision, the leak should carry little weight compared with the final specification page and independent reviews. The Pulse is the more compact of the two detailed regular RX 9070 models, while the Pure RX 9070 OC offers a larger cooler, white styling, higher advertised clocks, and a higher listed board-power figure. Nitro+ may appeal to buyers seeking Sapphire’s premium design, but its exact regional SKU must be checked directly.

The $549 AMD launch SEP is a useful historical reference, not a current-price guarantee. In any market, compare the final card’s price with similarly priced RX 9070 XT and competing GeForce options, then factor in case clearance, PSU capacity, warranty, software needs, ray-tracing priorities, and whether 16GB of memory is important to the workload.
