Yes, you can often reset a Samsung Account password without the old phone. Use a computer, tablet, or another device to open Samsung Account recovery, then verify your identity with your account email, registered phone number, recovery email, backup code, or another Galaxy device already signed in.
Not having the physical handset is different from losing access to the phone number registered to Samsung Account. If you cannot access the registered email, phone number, or any alternative verification method, Samsung’s official guidance is to contact Samsung Support.
Which “without a phone” situation applies?

What you need before starting
Have your Samsung Account email address or account ID ready, plus at least one recovery method that was configured previously:

- Recovery email or recovery phone number
- Registered phone number
- Another Galaxy phone or tablet already signed in
- Unused Samsung Account backup code
- Security question, where available
- Account details such as your registered date of birth
Recovery options vary by country, account history, and previously enabled security settings. Samsung says recovery email, recovery phone, and security-question methods must have been set up before access was lost. See Samsung’s regional recovery instructions for examples of available options.

Reset the password from a computer or another device
- Open account.samsung.com in a browser.
- Select Sign in.
- Enter your Samsung Account email address and select Next.
- Select Forgot password?.
- If requested, enter the full phone number associated with the account.
- Choose the verification method Samsung offers, such as email, SMS, a recovery method, a backup code, or a trusted Galaxy device.
- Enter the verification code or open the reset link sent by email.
- Create and confirm a new password.
- Sign in again on your Galaxy devices and Samsung services when prompted.
The exact labels can differ by country, browser, and account configuration. Samsung’s U.S. troubleshooting guidance documents the browser flow and the Didn’t get the verification code? option.
Use email verification
If Samsung offers email verification, select it, choose Continue, and follow the instructions in the message sent to your account inbox. Check spam, junk, promotions, and filtered folders, and search for messages from “Samsung.” Confirm that you entered the email address actually registered to Samsung Account.
Samsung states that reset links may expire after 30 minutes in applicable flows. If the link expires, restart the process at account.samsung.com and use the newest message. Avoid using old reset emails or links from suspicious messages.

Where the option appears, select Verify with recovery number or email, then choose the available recovery email or phone number. Follow the message or enter the requested information and verification code. Samsung may ask for details such as your date of birth.

These options are not automatically available to every account. They work only when the recovery details were added previously, and regional menus may differ.
Use another signed-in Galaxy device
If another Galaxy phone, tablet, watch, or other device is still signed in to the account, Samsung may send a two-step-verification request to it. Approve the request or enter the displayed code in the browser.
Samsung also documents one-time email verification for some sign-ins. Its U.S. guidance says that code can expire after five minutes. This is primarily a passwordless sign-in method, not necessarily a password-reset method. If you only need temporary access, use it when offered; if you need a new password, complete the Forgot password? process after authenticating.

Backup codes help when the phone and SMS are unavailable, but they must have been generated before the phone was lost and must not have been used already:

- Start the Samsung Account sign-in or reset process.
- At the verification screen, select Didn’t get the verification code?.
- Choose Verify with backup code.
- Enter an unused backup code and complete the recovery steps.
Backup codes are single-use. Samsung identifies them as an alternative to text-message verification.
Reset from another Galaxy phone or tablet
If you can use another Galaxy device, the menu may be similar to this:
- Open Settings.
- Tap the Samsung Account name at the top.
- On the login screen, select Forgot password or don’t have an account?.
- Enter the Samsung Account email address.
- Select Forgot password? and complete the offered verification.
- Create the new password.
Samsung’s software versions and regional pages use slightly different wording. The browser method is generally the more universal route. Samsung documents the device procedure in its password recovery guide.
If you forgot the Samsung Account email
Use Samsung’s Find ID option before resetting the password:

- Open the Samsung Account sign-in page.
- Select Find ID.
- Enter the requested name and date-of-birth information.
- Review the partially masked account details.
- Return to sign in and choose Forgot password?.
Samsung partially hides account details for privacy. If you have several Samsung Accounts, make sure you reset the one used on the affected device.
When SMS verification fails
- Enter the full number, including the country code. In the United States, Samsung gives the format
1-(area code)-(phone number). - Confirm that the SIM and carrier can receive short-code SMS messages.
- Check whether Samsung messages are blocked.
- Select Didn’t get the verification code? and look for email, backup-code, or trusted-device alternatives.
- Check that the receiving device has a working network connection where required.
Do not repeatedly guess the number. Samsung says repeated incorrect phone-number attempts may restrict further attempts for 30 minutes.
If the reset email or link does not work
- Return to account.samsung.com.
- Request a new reset email.
- Open the newest message, not an earlier one.
- If the email button fails, copy the complete reset address into a browser when Samsung’s message provides one.
- Try a fresh browser session if the current page appears stuck.
A link may be expired, already used, truncated by an email app, or connected to an old browser session.
If Samsung says your information is incorrect
Recovery details must match Samsung’s account record. Check the country code and complete phone number, use the correct account email, and enter the date of birth exactly as it was registered. Samsung specifically warns that a date-of-birth mismatch can prevent it from recognizing the account owner. Stop guessing after repeated failures to avoid temporary restrictions.

If you recently changed your phone number
Samsung says changing the two-step-verification phone number may involve a two-week verification process. Submitting another request can restart the waiting period. If Samsung’s completion message has not arrived after two weeks, its guidance recommends checking spam and blocked messages and trying to sign in without restarting the process. This timeline may vary by country and account.
If you lost or believe someone stole the phone
After recovering the account:
- Change the Samsung Account password immediately.
- Review trusted or authorized devices in the account’s security settings and remove devices you no longer control.
- Change the password for the associated email account if it may also be exposed.
- Ask your carrier to suspend or replace the SIM.
- Never share verification codes with anyone claiming to be Samsung Support.
A Samsung Account password reset is not a universal bypass for Factory Reset Protection, device locks, or other ownership-verification systems. Avoid third-party “Samsung account unlock” tools: they are not legitimate replacements for Samsung’s identity verification and may expose your credentials or personal data.
When Samsung Support is the only route
Contact Samsung Support if you cannot access the registered email or phone number and have no working recovery email, recovery number, backup code, trusted device, or security question. Support is also appropriate when the account is frozen, deleted, requires re-registration, or continues showing a persistent error after the official recovery flow.
Samsung does not provide a legitimate bypass that removes identity verification. Support is the official escalation path, but successful recovery cannot be guaranteed if the account information cannot be verified.
What happens after the password reset?
Samsung may ask you to authenticate again on Galaxy phones, tablets, watches, TVs, browsers, and other Samsung services. Resetting the password does not necessarily sign out every device immediately, so review your authorized devices and remove anything unfamiliar.
Samsung also says that, under its U.S. guidance, an account unused for two years may be considered inactive and could be deleted. Treat that as a regional policy qualification, not a universal rule.
