As of August 16, 2026, the 2024 A24 horror thriller Heretic is available to stream in the U.S. on Max. You can also rent or buy it digitally through services including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google TV, YouTube, and Fandango at Home. Availability and pricing can change by platform, account, device, and location.

Max streaming availability
Warner Bros. Discovery announced that Heretic began streaming exclusively on Max in the United States on March 7, 2025. The film also aired on HBO on March 8, 2025. Search for the movie in the Max app or website and confirm that the listing identifies Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East.

How much does Heretic cost to rent or buy?
Observed U.S. listings in July 2026 showed the following prices:
- Google TV/Google Play: $4.99 to rent and $19.99 to buy in 4K.
- Prime Video: $4.99 to rent in UHD and $19.99 to buy in UHD.
- Apple TV and Fandango at Home: verify the current price at checkout.
These are dated price signals, not permanent rates. Prices may vary by retailer, resolution, promotion, taxes, device, and account. A rental is temporary—typically giving you a limited period to start and finish playback under the retailer’s terms. A digital purchase generally grants continued access through the retailer’s account and compatible apps; it is not the same as unrestricted ownership of a downloadable file.

Is Heretic free to watch?
The movie is included with a Max subscription in the U.S. It should not be described as free without a subscription. A free trial, where offered, depends on eligibility and availability. A U.S. availability snapshot from JustWatch checked on August 1, 2026 listed Max and rental or purchase services but did not show a free streaming option for this film.

This is the 2024 A24 film directed and written by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, starring Hugh Grant as Mr. Reed, with Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East. It runs approximately 111 minutes and is rated R for some bloody violence.

What is the movie about?
Two young missionaries knock on the wrong door and become trapped in a deadly psychological game with Mr. Reed, played by Grant. He challenges them to defend and prove their faith. That premise, Grant’s against-type performance, and the film’s A24 profile helped make it a commercially successful and widely discussed horror thriller after its U.S. theatrical release on November 8, 2024.

Is Heretic available in 4K?
Google TV and Prime Video listings showed 4K/UHD purchase options. That does not guarantee identical quality on every service. Check the listing and confirm that your television, streaming device, app, internet connection, and account support UHD playback before paying.

Should you stream, rent, buy, or get the Blu-ray?
- Choose Max if you already subscribe or plan to watch other Max programming.
- Rent digitally if you want a one-off viewing and do not want to start a subscription.
- Buy digitally if you expect to rewatch the film and want it in a particular retailer ecosystem, especially where a 4K option is available.
- Choose the Blu-ray if you prefer physical media, collectible packaging, or access that does not depend on a changing streaming catalog. A24 links to a Blu-ray through the A24 Shop; check the shop for current price and availability.
