Safari’s automatic Apple Intelligence tab organizer is not an iOS 26 feature. Apple places it in iOS 27, where Safari can group related open tabs into topics and continue adding new tabs to existing topics—or create new ones. On iOS 26, Safari offers manual tools such as Tab Groups, pinned tabs, and sorting by title or website.
Apple announced the automatic topic feature on June 8, 2026, with availability planned for fall 2026. Here’s what the feature does, who can use it, and how to organize tabs manually if you’re still running iOS 26.

What Safari’s AI tab organizer does
The feature analyzes your open Safari tabs and groups related pages into topical collections. For example, tabs about flights, hotels, destinations, and itineraries could be placed into a travel-related topic.
Apple says Safari can continue placing newly opened pages into an existing topic or create another topic when appropriate. That makes it different from alphabetical sorting: it is intended to recognize what pages are about rather than simply ordering them by title or website.

Apple also describes the feature as using a combination of on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute, and says personal browsing data is designed not to be exposed to Apple or anyone else. Those are Apple’s stated privacy protections, not a guarantee that every tab will be classified correctly.
What you need
- iOS 27 or a relevant iOS 27 beta.
- An Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later.
- Apple Intelligence enabled.
- A supported device and Siri language. Apple warns that some Apple Intelligence features vary by language and region.
Not every iPhone that runs iOS 26 can use this feature. Apple’s availability information is listed in its iOS 27 announcement.
How to turn on automatic tab organization in iOS 27
Apple’s exact menu labels may change between beta builds and the final release. Current Apple material shows Automatically Organize, while beta reports have used labels such as Organize Tabs and Automatically Create Topics.

- Open Safari.
- Open the All Tabs view.
- Tap the tab-view menu or filter control in the upper-left corner.
- Choose Organize Tabs, if that label appears.
- Select Automatically Organize or Automatically Create Topics.
- Review the topics Safari creates and open one to see the tabs inside it.
Depending on the installed build, the same menu may also contain a control for turning automatic organization off or changing the organization mode. Do not assume that beta wording will remain unchanged in the public release; check the label shown on your iPhone.
Automatic topics, Tab Groups, and sorting are different

A generated topic should not be treated as a permanent filing system. Safari may interpret a page differently from you, and Apple’s available material does not establish that automatically generated topics behave exactly like ordinary, user-created Tab Groups or sync across devices in the same way.
What to do if Safari groups a tab incorrectly
- Move the tab manually into the appropriate Tab Group.
- Create a named Tab Group for projects where predictable organization matters.
- Turn automatic organization off if your installed build provides that option.
- Use Profiles when the goal is to separate entire browsing contexts rather than sort individual subjects.
How to organize Safari tabs manually in iOS 26
iOS 26 does not include the automatic Apple Intelligence topic organizer, but it still provides useful tab-management controls.

Create a Tab Group
- Open Safari and enter All Tabs.
- Touch and hold a tab.
- Tap Move Tab.
- Tap New Tab Group.
- Enter a name and tap Done.

Move a tab into an existing group
- Open the All Tabs view.
- Touch and hold the tab.
- Tap Move Tab.
- Choose an existing Tab Group, or create a new one.
Rename a Tab Group
- Open the Tab Group.
- Tap the upper-left menu.
- Tap Rename Tab Group.
- Enter the new name and tap Done.
Pin an important tab
Touch and hold the tab, then tap Pin Tab. Pinned tabs stay at the top of their Tab Group.
Reorder tabs
Open the relevant Tab Group, tap the upper-left menu, choose Arrange Tabs By, and select an available option. In iOS 26 coverage, the choices include sorting by title or website. You can also touch and drag a tab to a new position.

- Check the iOS version. If the iPhone is running iOS 26, the automatic organizer is not expected to appear.
- Check the model. Apple lists iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 models or later for Apple Intelligence support.
- Check Apple Intelligence. If it is disabled, Safari’s Apple Intelligence controls may be unavailable. The exact Settings path can vary by release.
- Check language and region. Apple warns that feature availability is not identical in every language or region.
- Look for alternate labels. A beta may use Organize Tabs, Automatically Organize, or Automatically Create Topics.
- Open the correct tab view. Depending on Safari’s layout, use More > All Tabs or the Tabs button. Apple’s tab-view guide covers the layout-dependent controls.
Other useful Safari organization tools
Profiles
Safari Profiles are better than topic grouping when you need firm separation between personal, work, and school browsing. Apple says profiles can have separate histories, tabs, favorites, and Tab Groups. See Apple’s guide to creating Safari Profiles.

iCloud Tabs let you view open tabs from another Apple device when Safari is enabled in iCloud and the same Apple Account is used. This is cross-device access, not automatic subject classification. Apple documents the requirements in its guide to viewing tabs from another Apple device.

Recently closed tabs
In All Tabs, touch and hold the New Tab button to view and reopen recently closed tabs.
Bottom line
If you are looking for Safari’s automatic Apple Intelligence tab organizer, look to iOS 27—not iOS 26. The feature is designed to group related tabs into topics, but its availability depends on your iPhone, software build, Apple Intelligence settings, language, and region. Until iOS 27 provides it on your device, iOS 26’s Tab Groups, pinned tabs, Profiles, and Arrange Tabs By controls are the reliable alternatives.
