If your iPhone won’t join Wi‑Fi, says “No Internet Connection,” or keeps disconnecting after updating to iOS 26, first find out whether the problem affects one network or every network. A single failing home network points more often to the router, internet service, or network settings; trouble on multiple unrelated networks points more toward the iPhone, its software, or an app that filters connections. Apple has acknowledged a specific Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth disconnection issue in iOS 26.0.1 on certain newer models, but that does not mean every Wi‑Fi problem is a universal iOS 26 bug.
Work through the checks below from least disruptive to most disruptive. Avoid erasing the phone or factory-resetting the router as an early fix.
First, identify what is failing
“Wi‑Fi not working” can describe several different problems, and the right fix depends on which one you have:

If the control remains dimmed, contact Apple after checking for an available iOS update.
- Your network is missing from the list: Move closer to the router and see whether another device can see the network. The network may be hidden, out of range, on a band the router handles differently, or restricted by router settings such as MAC filtering.
- The iPhone sees the network but rejects the password: Re-enter it carefully, then check whether the router password or security settings changed. Forgetting and rejoining the network can clear a stale saved login.
- The iPhone joins but says “No Internet Connection”: It may be connected to the router without the router having internet access. Test another device on the same Wi‑Fi before repeatedly changing iPhone settings.
- The connection drops repeatedly: Test another Wi‑Fi network or a phone hotspot. If the iPhone is stable elsewhere, investigate the original router, coverage, mesh system, or network-specific settings.
A blue checkmark beside a network means the iPhone has joined that Wi‑Fi network; it does not prove that the router has a working connection to the internet. Apple’s Wi‑Fi troubleshooting guidance recommends checking other devices and trying a different network or location to help separate phone problems from network problems.

Quick diagnostic: iPhone, router, or internet service?
| What you find | What it suggests | Best next move |
|---|---|---|
| Other devices also cannot get online on this Wi‑Fi | Router, modem, ISP, or service outage | Restart the networking equipment and check with the ISP if the issue remains. |
| Other devices work, but this iPhone does not | iPhone settings, software, VPN/security app, or device-specific compatibility | Test the iPhone on another Wi‑Fi network, then follow the iPhone steps below. |
| This iPhone works on another Wi‑Fi network or hotspot | The original router or its configuration is the likely issue | Check its range, bands, firmware, filtering, and login requirements. |
| This iPhone fails on multiple unrelated networks | An iPhone software, configuration, app, or hardware issue is more plausible | Update iOS, check VPN/security software, and use Network Settings reset only after simpler steps. |
| Only a hotel, airport, café, or school network fails | A captive-portal login or device-authorization issue may be involved | Open Wi‑Fi settings and complete the network’s login or terms page. |
Fixes to try, in order
1. Install the newest iOS update offered for your iPhone
Open Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is offered, back up important data if practical, connect the iPhone to power, install it, and test Wi‑Fi again. Apple’s iOS update instructions use this settings path.
Do not assume a particular version is the newest or that a later update fixes your specific problem. What appears can vary by device, region, rollout, and beta enrollment. Check the version offered on your phone; beta releases and public releases are not the same thing.
2. Check Wi‑Fi and Airplane Mode
- Open Settings > Wi‑Fi and make sure Wi‑Fi is on.
- Tap the network you want and re-enter its password if asked. A blue checkmark should appear beside the joined network.
- Make sure Airplane Mode is off.
- While testing, open Settings > Cellular and temporarily turn Wi‑Fi Assist off. This helps avoid confusing cellular fallback with a Wi‑Fi connection problem.
If Wi‑Fi is greyed out, restart the phone before trying more involved changes. Apple specifically recommends restarting when the Wi‑Fi control is dimmed.

Restart the iPhone, then reconnect to Wi‑Fi and test a few sites or apps. This is a low-risk step after an update and may clear a temporary software or connection-state problem, but it is not a guaranteed fix.
4. Forget the network and join it again
Go to Settings > Wi‑Fi, tap the More Info button beside the network, choose Forget This Network, and confirm. Select the network again and enter its password.

Forgetting a network removes its saved password from the iPhone, so make sure you know the password before doing this. Rejoining can clear a stale saved network profile or authentication problem. It will not fix an ISP outage or a failing router. See Apple’s iPhone Wi‑Fi instructions for network controls.
5. Restart the modem and router
- Unplug the router. If the modem or fiber gateway is a separate device, unplug that too.
- Wait briefly, then reconnect the modem or gateway first.
- Wait for it to stabilize, then reconnect the router.
- Once the network is back, reconnect the iPhone and test it.
A reboot is not a factory reset. Do not press the router’s factory-reset button unless you know how to restore the ISP credentials and network configuration. Apple recommends checking that the router is powered on, within range, updated, and compatible with the device.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →6. Test distance, bands, and mesh coverage
Move close to the main router and test again. If your router offers separate network names for different bands, try both:
- 2.4 GHz usually reaches farther and passes through walls better, but may be more congested.
- 5 GHz can offer higher local speeds and less congestion, but generally has shorter range and weaker wall penetration.
If you use a mesh system, test near the main router as well as near a satellite, or temporarily test without the satellite if your system permits it. A connection that fails only at the edge of the home or during movement between mesh points suggests coverage or roaming configuration rather than a general iOS problem. Check for router or mesh firmware updates through the manufacturer’s app or instructions.
7. Temporarily remove VPN or third-party security apps
VPNs, antivirus tools, firewalls, parental-control apps, content blockers, and network monitors can filter traffic or interfere with connectivity. Apple advises temporarily uninstalling relevant VPN or security software, restarting the iPhone, and testing—not merely toggling a switch inside the app.

If Wi‑Fi works after removal, contact the app’s provider before reinstalling or changing its settings. A work- or school-managed iPhone may also have a VPN, certificate, or configuration profile that is required. Do not remove a managed profile without approval from the organization; it may contain settings or credentials needed to access work or school services.
8. Test Private Wi‑Fi Address only if one network is the problem
On a network-specific problem, especially one using device registration, MAC-address authorization, or parental controls, test this setting at Settings > Wi‑Fi > More Info beside the network > Private Wi‑Fi Address. Depending on the network and iOS configuration, available choices may include Off, Fixed, or Rotating.
Leave private addressing enabled by default. Apple says it improves privacy by limiting tracking across networks. If a particular managed or registered network appears to be rejecting the private address, try Fixed first; as a short diagnostic test, you can temporarily try Off if necessary. If it makes no difference, restore the previous setting. Apple explains the feature and its options in its Private Wi‑Fi Address guidance.
9. Complete the login on public Wi‑Fi
Hotels, airports, cafés, schools, and other public networks often require a captive-portal login. The iPhone may join the Wi‑Fi but have no internet access until you accept terms, enter a password, or provide other requested details.
- Open Settings > Wi‑Fi and tap the network.
- Wait for its sign-in page, then complete the requested login.
- If the page does not appear, tap the network’s More Info button and choose Join Network if that option is available.
Auto-Join and Auto-Login are separate settings, and an app or browser may not open the login page automatically. Apple’s captive-network instructions explain how these networks work. “No Internet Connection” on public Wi‑Fi may simply mean the login is unfinished, not that iOS 26 has broken Wi‑Fi.

10. Reset Network Settings as a late-stage step
If simpler checks fail and the iPhone has trouble across networks, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This is not the same as erasing all content and settings; it does not erase photos, apps, or personal files. It does remove saved Wi‑Fi networks and passwords and resets network configuration, including cellular settings and VPN/APN settings that are not supplied by a configuration profile or mobile-device management.
Before resetting, retrieve your Wi‑Fi password and confirm you can restore any VPN access you need. If the phone or network is managed by work or school, ask IT first. Apple’s iOS 26 user guide also notes other network-reset effects, including Wi‑Fi being turned off and back on and some related device or certificate settings changing. A network reset can clear a corrupted saved configuration; it cannot repair a router, restore an ISP outage, or guarantee a fix.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What Apple has confirmed about iOS 26 Wi‑Fi
Apple’s release notes for iOS 26.0.1 document occasional Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth disconnections on iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 Pro. That is a specific acknowledgement tied to named models and a version, not evidence that every iPhone with iOS 26 has a Wi‑Fi defect. If you have one of those models, check Settings > General > Software Update for the newest release offered to your device, but do not assume an update fixes your exact symptom unless its notes say so.
Apple’s developer release notes also mention Wi‑Fi Aware fixes. Wi‑Fi Aware is a developer/networking feature; those notes should not be treated as confirmation of a fix for ordinary home Wi‑Fi connection problems. User reports can help identify patterns, but a report is not the same as an issue Apple has confirmed.
When to contact your ISP, router maker, or Apple
| Contact | When it is the right next step |
|---|---|
| Internet provider | Multiple devices cannot access the internet, the modem or gateway indicates loss of service, or an outage or line fault is possible. |
| Router or mesh-system manufacturer | The iPhone works on other networks, but one router, access point, band, or mesh location continues to fail; firmware, filtering, or roaming settings may need review. |
| Apple Support | The iPhone cannot join any Wi‑Fi network, Wi‑Fi remains greyed out after restarting, Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth fail together across locations, or the problem persists after updates and reasonable network troubleshooting. Seek help sooner if the device may have physical or liquid damage. |
Before contacting support, note the iPhone model, iOS version, exact error message, which networks fail, whether other devices work on those networks, and whether a VPN or security app is installed. For an employer- or school-managed phone, involve the administrator before removing profiles or resetting network settings. Apple’s general Wi‑Fi troubleshooting page similarly directs users to the ISP when other devices are affected and to Apple when the iPhone cannot connect to any Wi‑Fi network.
