These figures come from indexed 9to5Mac Prime Day coverage, later July deal coverage, Cult of Mac’s Prime Day roundup and Best Buy listings. They should be treated as event-era price signals, not guaranteed current prices.
What “up to 45% off” really means
“Up to” describes the single largest qualifying discount, not the typical saving across the range. For example, $399 for AirPods Max 2 against a $549 list price is approximately 27% off, while $130 for Beats Solo 4 against $199.99 is approximately 35% off.
Some Beats Studio Pro listings were reported at roughly $132.50–$150 against comparison prices of $349.99 or $399.99. That produces a mathematically larger percentage, but the comparison price, model, seller and condition may differ. Without the original article or an archived retailer page, it would be misleading to identify one exact product as the source of the headline’s 45% claim.
Compare the final price, dollar saving, product condition and warranty—not the percentage alone. A smaller percentage discount on a premium product may save more money, while an unusually large percentage may reflect open-box stock or a retailer’s comparison price rather than Apple’s official list price.
AirPods Pro 2: the discounted previous-generation choice
AirPods Pro 2 remain the most natural fit for iPhone owners who want compact earbuds, active noise cancellation, transparency mode and close Apple-device integration at a reduced price. A price near $200 was attractive during the sale, and a refurbished listing near $138.99 was cheaper still.

However, shoppers must verify the case. Retail listings referenced the USB-C/MagSafe version, while other AirPods Pro 2 inventory may use a Lightning case. Confirm that the listing includes both earbuds and the charging case, and that it is not a replacement component or refurbished unit.
Apple’s indexed catalog now lists AirPods Pro 3 at $249. That makes AirPods Pro 2 most compelling when the discount is substantial enough to justify buying the older generation. If the price difference is small, the newer Pro 3 is the more future-facing purchase.

AirPods Max are over-ear headphones, not an alternative form of AirPods Pro. They suit buyers who prefer an over-ear fit, premium Apple materials and long listening sessions without placing earbuds in the ear.
Do not automatically treat every listing titled “AirPods Max” as the latest model. Apple’s current indexed catalog lists AirPods Max 2 at $549, while sale listings may refer to AirPods Max 2, the original USB-C model or an older Lightning version. The reported $399 and $449 prices were associated with AirPods Max 2, but the exact listing should be checked before purchase.
Even discounted, AirPods Max cost considerably more and are bulkier than earbuds. They are a poor fit for shoppers who want the smallest travel option or the lowest-cost Apple-owned headphones.

The strongest Beats deals
Beats Studio Pro: best over-ear value
Beats Studio Pro were the standout value for shoppers wanting over-ear headphones at far less than AirPods Max pricing. Reported sale prices around $132.50–$150 were substantially below Apple’s indexed $349.99 price.
They are especially suitable for buyers who need broad iPhone and Android compatibility, want Beats styling and prefer a lower sale price to Apple’s flagship headphone experience. They should not be presented as an identical AirPods Max substitute: fit, ecosystem features and buying priorities differ.
Beats Solo 4: lightweight and affordable
Beats Solo 4 fit buyers seeking lightweight on-ear headphones and Beats branding without paying for a premium over-ear model. A reported price near $130 compared with Apple’s indexed $199.99 price represented roughly 35% off.
On-ear headphones do not suit everyone. Some listeners prefer the seal and comfort of over-ear headphones, and Solo 4 should not be treated as a direct AirPods Max equivalent. Color-specific pricing and stock conditions also mattered.
Beats Solo Buds: the cheapest option
Beats Solo Buds were aimed at shoppers who wanted inexpensive true-wireless earbuds for iPhone or Android use. Open-box examples around $43–$45 were among the lowest prices reported, but they were not factory-sealed products. New pricing was closer to the $70 range.

The low price comes with feature and accessory compromises. Coverage noted that Solo Buds have limited features and do not include a charging cable in the package. They make more sense than Solo Buds for workout-focused buyers willing to spend more for a sport-oriented design. They are less suitable for someone seeking the smallest or cheapest earbuds.

Beats remains a separate Apple-owned line. It includes lower-priced, over-ear, on-ear and sport-focused products such as Studio Pro, Solo 4, Solo Buds and Powerbeats Pro 2.
Do not silently substitute the newer products for the models in the original deal headline. The historical deal concerned older or separately identified inventory; today’s decision is whether the discount on that inventory is large enough to outweigh the newer model’s advantages.
Checklist before buying
- Confirm the exact generation: distinguish AirPods Pro 2 from AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Max from AirPods Max 2.
- Check the connector: verify USB-C versus Lightning, and confirm whether MagSafe charging is included where relevant.
- Read the condition label: “new,” “open-box,” “refurbished” and “renewed” are not interchangeable.

Do promotional subscriptions count as part of the discount?
No. Promotional Apple Music or Apple News+ trials are separate from a cash price reduction. Eligible AirPods and Beats purchases may qualify for certain promotions, but the subscriptions can renew after the trial unless canceled. Review the applicable Apple Music terms or Apple News+ terms before treating a trial as part of the deal’s value.
