Verdict: The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE delivers the compact folding-phone experience, current Samsung software, a capable 50MP main camera, and long update support for less than the regular Galaxy Z Flip7. But it is not a midrange phone in the usual value sense: its Flip6-derived design, small cover screen, 4,000mAh battery, 25W charging, and Exynos 2400 chip make the full price difficult to justify.
Buy it if you specifically want a Samsung flip phone and can get a substantial discount. Otherwise, compare it with the regular Flip7, a discounted Flip6, Motorola’s Razr, and conventional flagship phones before paying the $899.99 US launch MSRP.
What is the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE?
The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE is Samsung’s first FE-branded flip foldable. It lowers the entry price for Samsung’s folding-phone lineup, but it is not simply a regular Galaxy Z Flip7 with a smaller price tag.

The FE retains the Flip6-style 3.4-inch folder-shaped cover display, 6.7-inch inner display, 4,000mAh battery, and broadly similar chassis. Samsung updates the formula with an Exynos 2400 processor, newer software, current camera features, and a reported seven-year Android and security-update commitment.
That makes the FE a more affordable Samsung foldable, not an inexpensive phone. Its real appeal is the folding form factor and Samsung ecosystem—not maximum performance or the best hardware value.

Design and hands-on feel
Folded, the FE is easy to slip into a pocket. It measures approximately 85.1 × 71.9 × 14.9mm folded and 165.1 × 71.9 × 6.9mm unfolded, with a weight of 187g. Opening it one-handed is still the defining physical appeal: the phone becomes a normal-sized handset, then closes into a compact square.
During brief hands-on use, the hinge felt firm and the body showed little flex. The inner display crease was visible and easy to feel, but it did not prevent ordinary use. The phone’s construction includes an Armor Aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and a reinforced hinge, according to independent coverage.
The larger issue is visual age. Beside the regular Flip7’s edge-to-edge cover display, the FE’s thick, folder-shaped outer-screen surround and more prominent bezels look like last year’s design. The black and white finishes are restrained, but neither changes that impression.
The FE carries an IP48 rating. That means specified protection against immersion in fresh water and particles larger than 1mm; it is not the same as full fine-dust sealing, and it should not be described as waterproof or dustproof. A short preview also cannot establish long-term hinge or screen durability.
Displays: comfortable inside, dated outside
6.7-inch inner display
The 6.7-inch inner screen is a familiar Samsung foldable panel with approximately 1,080 × 2,640-pixel resolution and up to 2,600 nits peak brightness according to Samsung. Its size may actually suit people who prefer a conventional phone display: it is slightly smaller and less expansive than the regular Flip7’s 6.9-inch screen.

The crease remains noticeable, particularly when viewed at an angle, but the display felt comfortable for messaging, browsing, video, and camera use. The bezels are thicker than those on the standard Flip7, reinforcing the FE’s older design.
There is conflicting reporting about refresh rate. Samsung advertises a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate, while one independent specification table lists the panel as 60Hz. The retail model’s actual panel behavior should be verified before treating 120Hz as definitive.
3.4-inch cover display
The 3.4-inch outer display is bright enough for notifications, widgets, music controls, timers, camera previews, and selected quick interactions. It is also useful for framing selfies with the rear cameras.

However, it is not a second full phone interface. Compared with the regular Flip7’s larger edge-to-edge cover screen, the FE offers less room for typing, browsing, navigation, email, and social apps. Samsung’s native support is also more restricted than the cover-screen experience some buyers expect from a modern flip foldable. Workarounds such as Good Lock may expand app access, but they should not be confused with universal default support, and availability can vary by region and software version.

The FE uses Samsung’s Exynos 2400 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of storage. In ordinary hands-on use, it felt responsive while opening apps, browsing, messaging, streaming, and taking photos.
The compromise is headroom. The FE is less compelling for demanding games, emulation, sustained 4K video work, heavy multitasking, or buyers who expect flagship-level performance several years from now. That does not make it slow; it makes it a less ambitious platform than the regular Flip7’s higher-end hardware.
A short preview cannot establish sustained gaming frame rates, thermal behavior, or performance after prolonged workloads. Those require controlled testing.
Cameras and FlexCam
The rear camera system combines a 50MP wide camera with a 12MP ultrawide. The front camera is 10MP. Samsung positions the listed rear camera hardware as similar to the standard Flip7’s, but equivalent camera specifications do not guarantee identical photos: processing, software versions, heat, and subject movement can all affect results.

The more distinctive benefit is FlexCam. Fold the phone into a supported angle, use the rear cameras, and the cover display acts as a preview. That makes hands-free group photos, tripod-style shots, and higher-quality selfies more convenient than using the internal selfie camera.
Independent coverage found limitations in difficult conditions, including moving subjects at night and bright light sources that can become overexposed. The cameras also lack a true telephoto lens, so the FE is not a substitute for a camera-focused flagship with optical zoom.
Battery life and charging
The FE has a 4,000mAh battery, 25W wired charging, and reported 15W wireless charging. Samsung quotes up to 24 hours of video playback, but that is a manufacturer estimate based on specified conditions—not a universal promise of all-day battery life.
Tom’s Guide recorded 9 hours and 12 minutes in its cellular web-browsing test, compared with 12 hours and 24 minutes for the regular Flip7. It also measured the FE at 56% after 30 minutes of charging. These results are useful comparisons, but web browsing and video playback are different workloads, so the figures should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
Light and moderate users may reach the end of a day. Heavy 5G use, navigation, gaming, extended camera sessions, or high screen brightness could require a top-up. The 25W charging rate is also modest for a premium phone in 2026.

Software and long-term support
The FE launched with Android 16 and One UI 8 according to hands-on coverage, and Samsung reportedly promises seven years of Android and security updates, taking support through 2032. That is a meaningful advantage over buying an older Flip6, especially for buyers who keep phones for a long time.
Samsung’s software brings mature customization, multitasking, ecosystem integration, camera tools, FlexMode features, and AI-assisted camera and zoom functions. But long software support does not turn the Exynos 2400 into a future flagship processor, nor does it fix the FE’s small cover screen.
Before buying, verify which cover-screen apps work natively on the local retail model and whether a Samsung utility is required. Feature support may change with updates, regions, and carrier software.

Price and value
In the United States, the FE starts at $899.99 for 128GB and rises to $959.99 for 256GB based on Samsung pricing material. Those are launch MSRP figures, not necessarily the price you should pay in September 2026. Samsung promotions, carrier financing, and trade-in credits can materially change the calculation.
Trade-in offers are conditional. Samsung requires an eligible device to be reset, cleared of personal data, and sent within the stated deadline; its terms indicate that missing the 15-day shipping requirement or failing inspection can reduce the credit or trigger a chargeback. Treat “as low as” pricing as promotional, not as the normal cost of the phone.
Galaxy Z Flip7 FE alternatives
Regular Galaxy Z Flip7
Choose the standard Flip7 if the price gap after discounts is roughly $100–$200 or less. Its larger cover display, 4,300mAh battery, newer chassis, thinner bezels, and stronger performance address the FE’s biggest weaknesses.
Discounted Galaxy Z Flip6
The Flip6 shares much of the FE’s physical design, battery capacity, and cover-screen limitations. A heavily discounted new or refurbished Flip6 may therefore be better value, but compare warranty, remaining software support, chipset, storage, and actual condition. The FE’s advantages are newer software, a longer remaining support window, and current retail status.

Coverage of the 2025 Motorola Razr identifies it as roughly $200 cheaper in the US, with a larger 4,500mAh battery and faster 30W charging. Samsung counters with longer reported software support and its broader ecosystem. Compare the actual discounted prices, outer-display usefulness, camera consistency, carrier compatibility, warranty, and update policy before choosing.
Conventional flagship phones
If folding is not the main reason you are shopping, a conventional flagship or Samsung Galaxy S-series model will generally offer stronger battery life, cameras, durability, and performance per dollar. The FE makes sense because it folds—not because it beats conventional phones on specifications.
Who should buy the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE?
- Samsung users who specifically want a compact flip phone.
- First-time foldable buyers who value pocketability over maximum specifications.
- People who mostly message, browse, stream, use social apps, and take casual photos.
- Selfie users who will take advantage of FlexCam and the rear-camera preview.
- Buyers who can obtain a substantial promotion or trade-in discount.
- Users who value Samsung’s ecosystem and long support commitment.
Who should skip it?
- Gamers and performance-focused buyers.
- People who need dependable heavy-use battery life.
- Anyone who considers fast charging essential.
- Users who want to do most tasks on a large, genuinely useful cover display.
- Buyers paying full MSRP when the regular Flip7 is close in price.
- Value shoppers who do not specifically need a foldable phone.
Hands-on verdict
The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE succeeds at the part Samsung is selling most clearly: it is a compact, fun-to-use Samsung flip phone with a comfortable inner screen, useful FlexCam photography, current software, and unusually long reported support. It does not feel like a complete new generation, however. The Flip6-era body and cover screen, smaller battery, slow charging, and less powerful processor are substantial compromises.
At a deep discount, the FE can be a sensible entry point into Samsung’s foldable lineup. At full price, the standard Flip7—or a competing Razr with better battery hardware—deserves a closer look. This hands-on impression cannot settle long-term durability, sustained performance, full camera quality, or real-world battery consistency, so those factors should remain part of the buying decision.
