Yes—Apple really sued Jon Prosser, the creator of Front Page Tech. Apple filed a federal lawsuit against Prosser and Michael Ramacciotti on July 17, 2025, alleging that confidential information from an Apple development iPhone was improperly obtained and used to preview unreleased iOS features. The case concerns alleged trade-secret misappropriation, not a criminal prosecution, and Apple has not been shown to have won on the merits.

What is Apple accusing Jon Prosser of?

According to Apple’s complaint, Prosser and Ramacciotti were involved in obtaining and using confidential information about unreleased Apple software. Apple says the information came from a development iPhone containing pre-release software that later became iOS 26, including the design Apple unveiled as Liquid Glass.

The complaint’s reported theory is that Ramacciotti had a personal relationship with Ethan Lipnik, an Apple software employee. Apple alleges that Ramacciotti accessed Lipnik’s development iPhone while Lipnik was away and showed the unreleased software to Prosser during a FaceTime call.

Apple further alleges that Prosser captured or recorded information from that call and used it to create visual reconstructions for Front Page Tech. The complaint also alleges that Prosser discussed compensation or a way for Ramacciotti to be paid for providing access.

Those are Apple’s allegations, not established findings of fact. Prosser’s formal answer disputes key parts of Apple’s account, and the case has not produced a final ruling on liability.

What did Front Page Tech show?

Prosser’s early videos presented information about the next iPhone operating system, including a redesigned Camera app, changes to Messages, and a broader translucent, glass-like interface. The videos reportedly used recreated visuals or mock-ups rather than simply publishing raw Apple screenshots.

That distinction matters, but it does not decide the legal question. Recreating an interface may conceal a source’s identity, yet the underlying information can still raise trade-secret or confidentiality issues if it was allegedly obtained or used improperly. Apple’s lawsuit focuses on the alleged source and method of acquisition—not merely on the fact that Prosser published a technology report.

Why some reports said iOS 19 while Apple announced iOS 26

Prosser’s first video appeared on January 17, 2025, when the upcoming release was widely expected to be called iOS 19. Apple later changed its numbering convention and announced the software as iOS 26 at WWDC 2025.

“iOS 19” and “iOS 26” therefore refer to the same upcoming software cycle in this dispute, not two separate leaks. The final release also introduced Apple’s Liquid Glass design language.

What has Prosser said?

After the lawsuit became public, Prosser disputed Apple’s description of events. He said, “This is not how things went down on my end,” and said he looked forward to speaking to Apple about the matter. He also denied plotting to access anyone’s phone, said he was unaware of what was allegedly happening on the other end, and said he did not have passwords.

Those public statements should be distinguished from Prosser’s court filing. After obtaining counsel, Prosser filed an Answer to Complaint on July 2, 2026. The answer denies or disputes important allegations and includes the position that he did not know how or when Ramacciotti obtained the information supplied to him.

A filed answer is a formal litigation position, not proof that Prosser’s account is correct. The evidence, legal arguments, damages, and any remaining claims must be addressed through the civil case.

Who is Michael Ramacciotti?

Ramacciotti is the co-defendant in Apple Inc. v. Ramacciotti et al., case number 3:25-cv-06043-JD. He is central to Apple’s alleged chain of events because Apple says he accessed or showed the development device.

Ramacciotti retained counsel and filed an answer in October 2025. His answer is his formal response to Apple’s allegations; it does not by itself establish that Apple’s account is true or false.

What legal claims did Apple bring?

The docket identifies the case as a Defend Trade Secrets Act action under 18 U.S.C. § 1836. Apple alleges that confidential information qualifying as trade secrets was misappropriated and used without authorization.

Apple sought injunctive relief to prevent further disclosure or use of the information. The filings and reporting also identify claims for monetary damages and a demand for a jury trial. The reviewed materials do not establish a final damages award or a fixed amount that Prosser owes Apple.

The complaint starts a lawsuit; it does not prove the allegations. To prevail, Apple would still need to establish the relevant facts and satisfy the legal requirements for its claims.

The missed deadline and the “default” issue

Prosser was served on July 29, 2025, and his original deadline to answer was August 19, 2025. After he did not respond by that deadline, Apple requested entry of default. The clerk entered default against Prosser on October 17, 2025.

That was not the same as a final judgment that Apple had proved its case. Prosser retained attorney J. Curtis Edmondson in April 2026. In June, Apple and Prosser jointly sought to set aside the entry of default, and the default was set aside on June 22, according to subsequent reporting. Prosser then filed his answer on July 2.

In other words, Apple did not automatically win the case because Prosser initially missed the deadline. The later filings allowed him to contest the allegations in ordinary litigation.

9to5Mac reported on the request to set aside the default, and the joint stipulation and proposed order are publicly available.

Where does the case stand?

Based on the latest verified materials available for this article, the case remains an active civil lawsuit. Prosser has formally appeared through counsel and filed an answer. Ramacciotti also filed an answer earlier in the case.

The available materials do not establish a settlement, dismissal, trial result, final judgment, or ruling that Apple proved trade-secret misappropriation. They also do not establish whether Apple can prove what Prosser knew about the alleged access, whether the information legally qualifies as a trade secret, what evidence exists concerning the FaceTime call, or whether an injunction remains necessary after the software’s public release.

Why the case matters beyond this dispute

The lawsuit highlights the legal difference between publishing information and participating in its unauthorized acquisition. A technology commentator may report information from a confidential source, but legal exposure can depend on how the information was obtained, what the publisher knew, and how it was used.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It also shows why the words “leaker” and “thief” should not be treated as interchangeable. “Leaker” describes Prosser’s public role. Saying that he stole Apple’s secrets would state a disputed allegation as fact. Until the case is resolved, the defensible description is that Apple alleges misappropriation and Prosser denies or disputes key parts of that account.

What is not established

  • Prosser has not been criminally convicted; this is a civil federal lawsuit.
  • The reviewed materials do not establish that Prosser personally accessed the development iPhone.
  • The reviewed materials do not establish a criminal prosecution of the Apple employee involved in the alleged device access.
  • There is no verified final damages award or specified amount that Prosser must pay.
  • There is no verified final ruling that Apple won on the merits.
